For the record, I disagree on multiple points but that’s the beauty of sports. Nonetheless, this guy did a great job in his video but if you’d have grown up watching Larry you’d get his point about the missed shot. You could have an endless video of his game winning shots . But also he was also rookie of the year. So rookie of the year, 3x mvp, coach of the year and exec of the year. Also he was drafted 6th not 3rd. Anyhow, love the react because I appreciate honesty. So I’ll leave you with this, Jordan couldn’t beat bird when it mattered. Never did. Bird dominated the in an era where every team had not one but numerous all stars and hall of famers. Not one other player can say they did that. Jordan himself talks about how bird taught him everything about the mental side of the game and made him the Jordan he became… after birds body had given out on him. One love. Check out courtship of rivals doc. Because without Larry and magic, there truly would not be an nba today.
Edit: I’m not putting bird above jordan for the record. MJ and bird are 1a and 1b. I’d flip a coin if there was a draft. Either way you’re winning.

1a and 1b I can live with, because that's just an impossible choice to make considering every stat and all the untangibles. it's when anyone tries to put Bird at 3 or (god forbid) below that I start to lose my mind LOL. but also for the record, if FORCED to choose, it's Bird all the way. I dont care about the "his airness" nonsense or leaping abilities. Bird's game was just more complete, far less selfish and more technically elite, and I'll argue to the death with anyone who would like to debate it lol.

Prime to prime, skill set to skill set Larry is the equal of and in my opinion slightly better than Jordan or Magic. Larry Bird's court geometry was off the chain and the greats of his day knew it and felt it. Listen to them. The argument that Michael had not assembled his Bulls team yet is bogus, Bird turned the entire franchise around with no one. Doubling and tripling Celtic wins year after year. Even after Jordan had Pippen, despite a magnificent performance he ended up like the others. And, Larry did it with a broken back. As one commentator observed, "Michael had to have the ball to affect the game," Bird did not. Larry created team plays on the fly. And, Larry had a trunk load of intangibles that made him even greater.

  • @WolfsDE

To be fair, the reason Isiah Thomas said he was a horrible player and Scottie Pippen said this as well, was because during Jordan's first 5 years, he was often sloppy with the ball and tended to fade down the stretch. He could never beat Bird at all and while he was a great dunker and highly athletic, he couldn't get past the first round of the playoffs. Some will argue the he didn't have help, but it was not just that. He played a selfish game. Seemed to care more about stat padding than winning.
It wasn't until Phil Jackson took over and Scottie Pippen got drafted that he really started to understand leadership. Still a ball hog, but understood what it took to make himself and his team better. Phil Jackson and Scottie Pippen were the reasons he understood this. Because Phil helped him understand that if he wanted to win a championship, he had to understand Bird, Magic, Kareem and Isiah. What made them such great leaders. Iron sharpens Iron.
Yes, Jordan is an asshole. Pippen isn't wrong, Thomas isn't wrong for saying that. Guys like Barkley will even admit that Jordan could be an asshole, and Barkley is a friend.
Where Pippen goes wrong is saying that he is a better player than Jordan, Magic, Bird, etc.
But I think it stems from the idea that he was just Jordan's sidekick and it makes him feel disrespected. So he over compensates because he doesn't want to feel disrespected, always being Robin to Jordan's Batman, as the way the press often was putting it.
It puts him into a dark place.
It doesn't help that he, as well as the majority of Jordan's teammates never really liked Michael the person. They trusted him to win games, but they didn't really like him. Where as Scottie, they both trusted and liked him.
I know this is long, but I felt it needed to have some context for why some people didn't like Michael.
    I happen to hate Michael.
Both because of his being such an asshole person and the advertising that always was driven down everyone's throats with "Be Like Mike", Nike, McDonald's and Gatorade. It just drove me absolutely insane how much he was jammed down everyone's throats. The same as they do with LeBron now. It is that over exposure that builds a backlash.
Like...the Lakers being shoved down everyone's throats on ESPN, ABC and TNT when they aren't a very good basketball team.

    • @itzkhiiii
      @itzkhiiii  4 месяца назад

I agree with the part that jordan was an a hole and that in his early years he was a ball hog, scottie doesn’t understand that you cant feel under appreciated when you got drafted into a situation that was designed to be that way, jordan was the guy,he came into the league as a guy projected to be great in the league then later on a superstar in the league, scottie was just a rotation player his first season, and within a couple years he developed his game,as far as mj is concerned i can pull up many clips of him giving his stripes to pippen and saying that he doesn’t win 6 chips without scottie and saying how much he appreciates playing with him,but scottie was not on mj’s level on the court or off the court (off court meaning commercial and advertisement) great players are going to be disliked by a lot of people, jordan kobe and lebron are disliked by a lot of people teammates and opponents, but thats what makes them great.well put statement and i agree with you

I understand you don't want to include the dunk contests or 3 point contests or all star games -- it makes sense if you're young and don't understand that when all of that was new it was a big deal. Players didn't get paid much, players took it really damn seriously, their salaries were so low back then that winning 10K did actually make a difference LOL. And in the all star games at least in the 80s they actually played very competitively and even in a lot of the 90s and into the 00s... there's a great story about how MJ his last year hit a last seconds shot that would've had him end his career winning the all star game in the east. And the west wanted to just let him go out like that. Kobe was like NO WAY... and he took it back to the other side and hit a shot back for them to win.
So there WAS a time when the best players played the games -- they played for real. They played defense and offense. And they played hard. And the new 3 point and slam dunk contests the BEST players played in them to compete to win, it wasn't the joke it is now where no one gives a flying ... well you know what I'm sayin'. I understand why younger players would say now it doesn't matter, but back then it actually DID matter for cred, for stardom, for quality of play -- in the all star game you didn't have both Bron and Giannis sitting (and yes they were injured or whatevs) -- but unless they were SERIOUSLY INJURED everyone played and they played hard. It was actually a real contest. The only time I think that players gave a gimme on the all star was when Magic played his last all star game in the NBA because he was the first player to be diagnosed with HIV and everyone believed he had essentially announced he was dead soon because back then that's what HIV was. No one ever survived it, and usually not long that we knew of. Magic having HIV for most players (except the phobics) but for most of the big all stars -- especially like MJ, Bird, etc -- was a time of major grief in the league and unprecedented. It was like a make a wish foundation game that one game -- but other than that every other game was all out murder because they just didn't play the same way that they play now.
It's fine if your opinion is that none of this matters at all, because today it doesn't -- it's a joke, and anyone who argued that a dunk champ or a 3 point contest champ or an all star mvp or leading scorer or whatever was "the best" yeah I'd laugh at that. But back in the day? Oh... you had to work for your flowers for sure. They were no less forgiving in the all star than in regular games, only difference being that you weren't always playing with teammates you knew, but the east wanted to kill the west and vice versa, but then there were also personal vendettas out there as well. So while I get not putting it in when comparing old players to new players or deciding to ignore it -- fine... but also understanding that there was a time where the people who won these things actually -- it mattered. They never played soft to avoid season injuries, they never sat out to avoid fatiguing themselves. The old school players that played 82 games just didn't play like that. And yes the best would stop once they'd proven their points and let the new kids shoot it out or dunk it out... but it was still a real fight, always. Now it's all for show, and kinda barely that. No one cares -- there's not enough incentive to care. They get paid so damn much and the accolades have been punked to be kind of like... how do I explain... there was a time a long time ago when people who were smart wanted to get MENSA cards (long before my time). By the time I was old enough only insecure nerds got MENSA cards and most confident geniuses thought only losers got MENSA cards. Things evolve and change. Now if someone says they are in MENSA you're like "cool story bro -- do you also have a note from your mom saying you're handsome?" Larry winning the early 3 point contests did matter. Now they don't. MJ winning early dunk contests did matter. Now they don't. Winning all star MVP used to matter. Now it's arbitrary because they score like 800 points and no one important cares or really plays hard.

But yeah I can't even tolerate watching the all star games. In fact for the past many years until they finally implemented the no flopping and started to bring back some defense -- but I still think they need to make a few more changes. But yeah that's just me -- very few games I enjoyed watching under the flopping era. That's just my personal feelings. The dunk contest is not the same as th 3 points contest.
The Dunk contest is about showing off... just cuz you cant make a 360 spin before you down the ball doesnt mean you automatically the better dunker.
Youre the *flashier* dunker... but it doesnt really impact the came.
Shooting three DOES impact the game, there is no "flash" about it, its just pure skill.
That said, I still think you should count the dunk contest.

I do not agree with comparing past “kings” with current “kings”, or “queens” in most sports. The medical, physical therapy, training technology, nutrition, and gear available at the times are way different. Not just a little different. A lot different. I gather rules have changed to try to protect players from severe injuries. Except possibly in women’s soccer. They seem to often get away with stepping on a player who is on the ground and have no consequences. I recently saw some clips of their blatant bad behavior. Didn’t even try to hide it. Bad behavior happens but injuries from it are usually less because they are trying not to get caught. The broads I saw didn’t care and, it seems, were not called out for it by refs. Lousy refs too.

Do you cowardly just sit there in shame or do you punch him in the face? He did what he had to do to get the dog out of everyone so that they were never bullied by other teams like they did early against Detroit. Even Steve Kerr knew psychologically he couldn't let MJ punk him and swung at MJ in practice and I believe even Wennington or Longley had their scraps with MJ. MJ respected them after. MJ could never do the same to Rodman because Rodman already gave maximum effort, what else could MJ get out of him?
