How does this affect nuclear waste? Let me put it this way. Nuclear fission splits the atom, nuclear fusion fuses it back together. There is a stigma about nuclear, whether it be from Chernobyl, Fukushima, movies, the way waste is processed, we have all been lied to. Today's small nuclear generators, which have been in service for decades are the safest option, the tech has changed vastly, the fuel used is different, waste from fuel is recyclable until almost completely inert, nuclear is the future.
