I'm an upholsterer, and have used this product numerous times. I use professional dyes such as SEMs and Color Bond. The reason I recommend the Dupli Color brand is because it etches the material you're working with well. It is one of few manufactures that is an acetone dye which allows it to bite into the vinyl surface well. SEMs use to provide it yet have switched to the popular Color Bond method for coverage and build properties.
Like I said this product is a lacquer and Sim is an elastomeric they're two completely different types of products. I'm going to test this product and see how well it holds up

John Beer Funny you mentioned house painting. A few years back l wanted to paint a house a lighter color over beige but always liked the idea of a good primer first. A friend of mine said to just paint two coats of the color you want and your done. I asked him wouldn’t it be better to lay down an expensive tinted primer like zinzer first, then paint one or two coats over that? He being in the handyman trade said I guess you could do that. I've done several semi truck interiors, and I absolutely cannot stress adhesion promoter enough. If you really want long term results, use the adhesion promoter.

You’ll never get good coverage over a dark color. You should have tried painting black on a light color. A large number of cars have a tan interior, would love to see black going on tan carpet.
Agreed. I was trying to show a worst case scenario with the black. I still have received a load of emails asking specifically if black is ok to paint.
I'm thinking of spraying my interior. Do you know if armor all or other cleaning supplies will remove the paint?
I am not sure on armor all. I use aerospace 303 instead and haven't had issues with it taking any paint off.
Danny R 303 will remove any Mickey mouse job
303 is literally the best product ever. Agreed
How durable is it as to cleaning it? Will it rub off when I go to detail my interior?
It was very easy to clean. I didn't have any issue with it rubbing off.
Can it be use to paint seat belts?
I have used it on seat belts yet. I had pretty good luck with it too.
I'm going to try this on the seat on our boat. It's in the sun all the time and it is going to get wet!! Thoughts??? The material is in GREAT condition, it's just faded in certain areas from exposure.
Sounds like the ultimate test. Lots of sun and moisture...keep me posted how it turns out.
How is it holding up? I just sprayed the seats on the boat of my boat with it, and I'm curious to hear how it will hold up.
Can you use this on polyester??
Haven't tried it.
I wonder if this is waterproof? I am curious if it would be suitable for my motorcycle boots?
Hi! Thanks for the video. Does anyone know of this could work on snow/ ski pants? I just want to use it to decorate, not cover the entire thing.
How many cans of black did you use to do your seats? And will this work on a head liner? My intiror is light gray. Thx
I used three cans. Yes this will work on headliner. I have painted 3 headliners with it.
Can this be used on leather car seats
I dont know. Havent tried it yet. Maybe try on a scrap piece of leather first and see how it holds up.
Can we use to paint our tent sir?
Do you need to use primer before painting ??
No, use an adhesion promoter
Someone know if it's removable with thinner ,mine start to crack and not looking that great after two summers..
I was wondering can you use this spray paint technique on black nubuck? Because I was looking to paint over the black nubuck and make it red...so can it be done?
I would go to Joanne Fabric (or a crafting store) and get a chunk and test it out. I haven't tried it yet. I would imagine it would work fine though.
Montana Made thank you for responding and I’ll try it out
You bet. Let me know how it works out. Lukes Garage is my other channel. It would be good information to have.
Montana Made I will do that
Does this paint smell? If you were to spray some seats in a car does it smell like paint after?
Surprisingly didnt after a day or two. It was even in the hot sun and I didnt have problems with offgassing.
@@MechanicLife Excellent
I bought the red and it came out like drips that’s why I had to come here to see if it was supposed to do that
No the paint or nozzle is probably defective
Can I use this to change the color of a stroller
What are you painting on the stroller? You can change the color, but depending on what parts you are painting would impact how well the paint sticks/turns out. Also would want to be careful if you are putting a baby in it with the paint offgassing, etc...
I would like to change the material color to black cos d current color looks faded so do you advice it or not
Do you know how to make cloth look like leather?
According to the people in the comments this stuff isn't any more durable than sem, an elastomeric. What I'm going to do is scuff up all of the interior in my van and use adhesion promoter, base coat, and matte clear coat from tamco. It should be much better. I will also use 2k primer and sand it before base
What would you suggest for a Bimini boat cover/canvass? Thanks!
I really wish I would've found this video before I bought the grey....ugh not worth it in my situation
Does.dupil.color make the paint in brush & roll.style of the carpet and vinal.
"Unless you're planning a haunted house". Well sir, that's exactly what I'm planning to use it for. :)
Love it!
Will it work on alcantara or faux suede?
You think this will work well on polypropylene I have shutters i want to paint but I’m scared it won’t stick
What if the red paint over red vinyl? White paint over white vinyl? Think thatll be better?
B Trimmer that's what it's for 😂 it's for damage areas say one of them is the steering wheel that gets all dirty and philthy on some ppls car u know whats up✌
I don't know how you did the vinyl because I painted a chair and as soon as I started sitting on it the paint started cracking
Orlando Negron you have to use adhesión promoter before you use the paint. Adhesión promoter is specially formulated for vanilla and plastics so the paint doesn’t scratch or peel off.
I did. I put adhesion promoter first but it still peeled. I was surprised because it peeled easily. I will try again
Then it must be plastic instead of vinyl. That stuff comes off easy on plastics vs vinyl. I tried painting plastic and it came off. I was told by duplicolor that it won’t stay permanent on plastics but it will on vinyl and fabrics. For plastics color bond LVP spray I s best. Didn’t peel. Crack and it’s permanent. Hope this helps you.
I will try that maybe.
I wish I could upload a picture of the chair. I could swear it is vinyl but I could be wrong
Is there a blue color?
will this work on an exterior vinyl top?
I know this is a old video BUT have you tried using the white as a primer for the red???
I havent. Not a bad idea.
