*INSANE RESULTS* Painting Interior Plastics & Fabrics Using Duplicolor
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 окт 2024
- In the beginning I was very hesitant to use this paint because I couldn't imagine it having the outcome that I did. Converting the door panel from a very solid maroon color to a complete two-tone black and silver door panel just didn't seem very easy to me. But boy was I ever wrong, this duplicolor worked amazingly and completely covered every bit of maroon left behind. Now you would never know these door panels were a different color before unless I told you. For best results, dust the first 2 coats on first, then do 1 heavier but light, then sand with 800 grit then give it 2 well layed coats..with 1 last heavy one ..total 6 coats. Will last forever..
If you paint any other plastic interior parts a scotchbrite with dish soap in a bucket will make it go a lot faster. It’ll deep clean and scuff them up for paint. It turned out sweet man. Gonna be doing my headliner with this stuff soon
Thanks for the idea, I’ll use that when I do the rest of the interior! Good luck with the headliner!
How did the headliner turn out?
My brother-in-law does auto upholstery he always says the wipe it down really good with a clean rag and denatured alcohol it removes all those wheels and solvents like armor All and dries with no residue
@@stephenbouley6448 did you brother in law say whether or not this stuff dries and is somewhat stick or basically fabric paint
@@Seraphsody I did my headliner about a month ago it turned out really good, it was originally ran and I painted it black
I’m in the same process of doing my 84 panels. Looks great
the king of overspray
Damn that looks clean! Came out way better than I would have thought. I think I'm gonna do this to all my door panels and dash in my 94 impala
I just saw this guy on the road so I watched his videos and subscribe
Thanks!
I just painted my full interior of my custom 81 Camaro Z28. I went with flat black. It's more like a perfect semi gloss, not flat like regular flat paint for steel.
It turned out perfect.
I even painted a brand new set of red door panals. I was very hesitant on this...
I wanted a new black set, but red was the last set in all of North America. Due to factory shutdowns from covid bs.
I did it in like 6 or 7, veeerrrrry light coats.
Not spotty at all.
Awesome stuff.
Do not put it on thick.
Super, duper light "mist" coats.
Also, put the cans in hot water in the sink 10 minutes before you push the trigger. Shake can alot, or risk the whole can clogging up.
I got a fan on them to cure out for several days before touching, but they were literally dry to the touch in 4 minutes of the last coat.
HAPPY painting!
Did this to my tacoma 98 single cab and it came out clean asf
I’m fixing to do my dash I can’t wait
It would’ve looked dope to leave the red carpet and trim pieces but wow I need to do this to my 84 5.0
Awesome video! This is exactly what I was looking for to paint the interior of my 93 Bronco :) Thank you!
Pro tip: use a brush on the carpet after spraying to make sure you got all the fibers and spray again, repeat.
How does this paint hold over time? Can it still be cleaned with products like armorall wipes? Or will it take the paint off?
Can you please show the results from all this time?
When I need to spray downward, I always mask the surrounding area and use a pvc elbow. Just do short blasts directly into it and a low pressure area will form at the top and cause the paint particles to fall. Just don't let the paint in the elbow build up and drip.
Can’t wait to make my ugly tan interior a black masterpiece
I was just wondering how well it has held up? If it wears off easily or stays on pretty strong
Years ago a buddy redid his interior ,and used the spray vinyl/carpet paint.
Even on the vinyl seats it held up to daily use for a good 3yrs of beating on it.
I did this to my god awful red interior on my obs. The only place I’ve had issues with the paint is on the kick panels from boots ect. But all in all it’s a pretty good product I’d say
I’m buying a ‘23 Ford Maverick and I want to paint the interior black, this makes me feel better to try it out
Try that years ago on a van and had the turquoise interior I did the black vinyl paint we scrubbed it we cleaned it we everythinged it,and it rubbed off
I just did the two front panels of my Kia optima two days ago and the paint is already coming off and bubbling, I ruined my door panels with this crap, never again.
That stuff is a joke
Whyyyyy that red interior is dooope
Wow they look awesome. Great job!
Getting ready to do this to my 2000 s10.
about to do it to my 99 s10!
While it hurts me to see you painted over the red, at least you chose a good color to go over it
You can switch the tip to different direction for spray better
But did it last?
Did you use an adhesion promoter pre painting?
Good job man. Does the door panel have a weird texture after the paint? How they holding up?
Update video on how it looks now?
I’d love to see the rest of the interior!!! Love that generation of F150’s but that red interior was scary lol
Yooo it came out hella good 💯💯
Thanks man, honestly surprised me how good they came out.
You should try one more layer bro . ( inside the cracks/ deep lines ) And I think you could get inside the door compartments if you just held it my hand and sprayed inside .
If I paint it like that and I do 4-5 coats and then I come to deep clean it and detail it in future would the paint wear off from the soap or anything ?
Should have left them all black.
Next time you tape something off also cover up the other exposed areas either a sheet or something. This way you don’t get a bunch of overspray.
Gonna paint my armrest black to make it look newish.
Wow this gave me courage now to paint my door panels from black to palomino color now I don’t know to go with sem or dupli color . Has the paint stayed on ? It hasn’t chipped off ?
doing this to my dash on my 08 sierra
Just curious, how did they hold up?
Really could've done it all in a day bro. The sanding was good but washing and waiting to dry for 4 days wasn't really necessary
Rustoleum makes a plastic primer you should try on the door panels before you spray them
Im wanting to upgrade the interior on my 2016 superduty, here's to hoping this video can help me upgrade from a OEM tan interior
Is it last ? And how abt the smell ?
I painted too but 1 door panel it sticks still why ?
Hopefully your panels are holding up. I’ve done this before and found adhesion promoter before paint works well
I’ve had a couple small spots where it’s started to come up, will have to redo in the future and try out adhesion promoter, thanks for the idea!
I was going to ask how it's holding up. I have a 05 f250, and hate the stock shade of tan. Want to change the tan slightly and add black. But, wondered how painting them holds up, if it is worth it. Other than haveing no choice like you
@@AaronCates I’ve seen a video where the guys been doing it for years. He says the most important part that makes or breaks it as far as longevity is patience. He does like 6-7 coats but the first 2-3 he barely dusts the color on and let’s it fully dry. It gives the other layers of paint a better sticking point. When you did yours you layer it pretty thick. They did look amazing but as you said it didn’t last. Give the low coverage multiple coats a try.
@@massivepump3059 can you tell me what video that was? I’d like to check it out
@@kylerrhys8733 I can’t remember the name
Of the channel. The host was a middle aged white guy and he kept stressing the patience and multiple small coats. When you find it you’ll know because he says it a million time. Search for spraying interior leather. He was working on a center console for a truck spraying it grey
Did you use clear coat on it
How does it feel. Sound rough when passing your hand over it.
You think the beige color will get cover good on black?
I tend to put to much paint down when spraying and get runs.
Have you done any other interior parts yet? Or a video on doing so
pretty late not sure if anyone can help. but i bought a truck . the interior was painted black. it’s been done very poorly. what do i have to do to the panels to prepare them for a re spray the correct way
Awesome
I accidentally didnt use adhesive or primer and its chippy. Would i use like some aircraft paint remover to get that spray paint off so i could start over?
Me too, I painted the two front door panels just two days ago and they are already chipping off the paint is coming off like sheets off the panel, horrible, there is definitely misinformation about the use of this product, I should have left them alone, my door panels are now ruined.
Do you think gloss black will be that shiny? Thinking of doing the same but with the gloss black color. All flat blacks are out of stock in here. Thanks mate!
I have a VW Rabbit and the flimsy fabric comes unglued.
I'll be painting my panels.
Can you spray that over suede?
how does it hold up after two years?
What’s the update now I want too do mines just want too make sure everything goes well
Hi could you load some photos of panels in the present?
Did you use gloss or satin or matt finish? Watched the whole video but I think I missed it! lol
I can’t see the cracks from my house (; do dont worry about it lol 😆👍🏼👍🏼
I recently painted my truck door but it is very easy to chip the paint. I tried putting clear coat over it but it doesn’t help. How can I strengthen the durability of the paint and what would be a good protective coating to put protect it?
Don't use paint, use spray dye, which this is. The best brand is VHT, and do not use primer as these products need a molecular bond with the panel
🔥 dope video pimp..I've got to tackle my 81 Edog with WHITE paint..unfortunately my door panels are white, and I found to clean brown door panels that will do the job..preciate the lesson plaboi 💯
I used to Rustoleum, Krylon and Duplicolor was shit from my experience. Not to mention far more expensive.
I bought an 82 S-10 to flip a while back and I had great success with the Duplicolor plastic paint. The truck sold the day I listed it and I wish I had kept his contact info to check in with him later to ask about how well it held up.
I almost used Duplicolors adhesion promoter as a primer, but my budget for the build was small and I wasn't sure how much (if any) it would help.
What is the texture like once dry? Feel like the ordinal vinyl? Or is it rough?
How well does this work
Did you do the carpet as well ?
If your still answering questions on this video how have the held up over the last 5months no flaking or paint chip?
did any of the paint rub off yet?
How many cans you used on 2 doors?
How long till the smell is gone?
Is it sticky
Is this gloss black
I really thought they would come out looking tacky but you did a great job 👏
Not tacky.
Gloss black looks more fake. I went with flat black. It's more like semi gloss. Looks amazing on my 81 Z28.
@@jakefriesenjake I agree. The flat black looks way better than glossy painted interior panels lol
It’s been about a year, would you care to make an update video or share photos of how it’s held up?
Don’t forget adhesion promoter
very many videos!
Any updates, has it faded, come off etc?
How did the paint hold up?
Is it gloss or flat paint
Gotta prime first
Hey! How is it going so far?
How does it hold up
Do you need to use primer before painting ??
Absolutely not, it's not paint. It's a dye, primer will cause it to chip and flake, as it has to molecular bond to the panel
@@TheRoadhammer379 so is paint better
Wouldn’t the paint rub off on your clothes ? Or do u put a gloss over it
did you use any promoter? and will it scratch easily?
Yes, it's terrible
Paint the insides of the door while up right lol
How is it. 1 year later?
Is the splatter paint thing still a thing
No that died right after high school graduation 🤣
I scuffed and preped my door with the wax and grease remover and when i was spraying it with the flat black it started looking like ashy on some parts do know why did you have this same problem
I don’t know why it did that, I didn’t have a problem with mine.
Aaron Cates yea im not sure i applyed a couple extra coats and and it still doing it
Man my concern on doing this is: How long does it last?
If there would be some kind of clear coat almost that would be best to put over the top so that the paint wouldn’t wear off and for the fabric I would use a fabric paint just for the fact that it will hold the color in the fabric better and last longer
*Id say EXTRA PREP The areas that are going to get A LOT of contact like the door handles and arm rests on the door panels*
how does the fuzzy part of the door feel after the paint has dried?? is it still soft or does the paint make it solidify and get crunchy? lol ...I have a 92 bronco that I am trying to revamp the interior and I have the exact same door panels except one is gray and one is tan so I am trying to make everything tan
It’s not as soft but it is also not crunchy haha it’s a little in between. But after the paint has dried if you run your hand over it enough it softens up a little bit more.
@@AaronCates good to know, and all you used was Comet to scrub down the parts?
I sanded them then washed them with normal dish soap.
I did the carpet on the stairs leading to the basement in my old house.
As we were moving out we painted the place, and one of my buddies spilled white paint all over the steps.
Off to AutoZone for 2 cans of black carpet paint.
Came out great ,doesn't wear off easy and the carpet feels like carpet (except where the real paint dried)
👍👍
Hows this look today
No primer.......
How's it holding up?
Still holding up good
I would use an adhesion promoter
Primer is not recommended, as this is a dye not a paint. Primer will cause it to chip and flake.
I saw u at the gas
Thats gunna flake off in a month, watch
For the plastic and vinyl use plastic primer before putting on the actual paint
No, you don't with this product. It's not paint, it's dye, it molecular bonds to the panel. Using primer will cause it to chip and flake. My brother has been using this stuff for years at Ford, this is what dealerships use to alter interior colors.
what song begins at 8:10
This does not work very well did this on my boat and came off flaking after 3 uses. Just a warning try it on one section or panel see if it lasts then do the rest TRUST ME
You supposed to get some ugly grey ones to paint and sell the red or blue ones.
