I like watching videos like this for educational purposes. You're the only channel I've found that actually has quality content for a 4x4 vehicle... But I recently bought a f150 with a 10 inch lift from a friend. It was to good of a deal to pass up, and after driving a 2wd s10 for 5 years, I was ready for a change. I am fully aware of the potential money pit, but it would be cool to see a little more videos related to trucks a little more. If you can't, then videos like this are just as good.

I actually watched your last video like 2 weeks weeks ago, I had a click while turning right, I had MAYBE a hair of play in my driverside U-joint, replaced it and now no more click! Great Vid man. Btw I just used a BFH and a large socket on the ground to pop that sucker out, then used a vise to press them in. Worked fine, only took about 1-2 hours

Well, it really depends on which parts you are talking about. I use to use Autozone almost exclusively because they had a lifetime warranty... only problem was, I was changing the same part over and over every couple of months. Now I mostly use Oreilley's for standard parts and they have lifetime warranties on most items and the parts are better quality. For real important stuff I use NAPA.

This was a very informative video, and I like the little bit of humor thrown in. I've read on other sites how to check for bad u-joints, but having a visual makes it a lot easier to understand now. I have a '96 f-150 that I suspect has a bad u-joint, but I'm thinking I may have a bad tie-rod end also. A few years ago, the driveshaft actually fell out of my truck. Luckily, I was going slow when it happened, but the part that the u-joint attaches to was broken or something. So I had to get another shaft, in addition to the new u-joint. I'm going to look it over this time and try to avoid a repeat.

This was a a great video. Clear and understandable. Heard the noise and had the service folk lubricate the joints. No noise for about a month, now I hear the noise again in Reverse. I had no idea the parts are that inexpensive, I will get them to replace. Thanks.

Seriously though, this was helpful. When you described the "clicking" at the axle end u-joint, it pre-confirmed what I had suspected. I guess at 190K miles, the u-joints don't owe me much. Keep up the bleepin' good work. Cheers.

ya its either the NSS neutral safety switch... or the shift lever cable is a tad stretched and needs adjustment. You can adjust it on the driver side of the transmission with a little clip, then slide it one way or the other and try again.

Great video! Like you said, I also noticed the steering wheel of my '06 Jeep GC gives buzzing vibrations when accelerating. As per shop I go to (never been there before), it's U-joint has gone bad. The mechanic said the U-joint with this Jeep is in one with the driveshaft, so I can't just replace the U-joint but the whole driveshaft as well. Just curious if that's true?

Awesome video! Thanks for the info. I have a 2010 jeep liberty, i believe my u joint on the rear drive shaft may be faulty. The noise is coming from directly underneath my back seat area. At first it sounded like a plastic flapping noise, or since watching your video a clicking noise. Now it sounds like a loud Whirring noise more than anything. It seems to stay constant as i drive, then as i slow down it also seems to slow down and whir- down sound wise. Do you think it could possibly be the rear u joint?

  • @bleepinjeep

not necessarily, I would think the u-joints would be binding in either direction as they should be angled the same whether turned left or right. The clunk I would assume would be from the track bar or a loose steering box, or possibly a REally bad tie rod end.

Are your lug nuts on tight? Also, it could be that if your 4wd selector is jammed up it could be in 4wd and that wouldnt be good. sometimes the linkage can get messed up under the vehicle and your selector wont show the right thing.
