    Well, it really depends on which parts you are talking about. I use to use Autozone almost exclusively because they had a lifetime warranty... only problem was, I was changing the same part over and over every couple of months. Now I mostly use Oreilley's for standard parts and they have lifetime warranties on most items and the parts are better quality. For real important stuff I use NAPA.

    I actually watched your last video like 2 weeks weeks ago, I had a click while turning right, I had MAYBE a hair of play in my driverside U-joint, replaced it and now no more click! Great Vid man. Btw I just used a BFH and a large socket on the ground to pop that sucker out, then used a vise to press them in. Worked fine, only took about 1-2 hours

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  11 лет назад

    well, there should be a bit of slop in your ring a pinion, this is called backlash. It shouldn't bee too much, but just right. to check it out further remove the driveshaft so you can see if it is in fact coming from the ring an pinion.

But I recently bought a f150 with a 10 inch lift from a friend. It was to good of a deal to pass up, and after driving a 2wd s10 for 5 years, I was ready for a change. I am fully aware of the potential money pit, but it would be cool to see a little more videos related to trucks a little more. If you can't, then videos like this are just as good.

    When the u-joints are working correctly the drive shaft spins in perfect balance. When the u-joint has failed, the rotating drive shaft will slip to one side due to the centrifugal force of the rotating mass, causing an imbalance, resulting in the vibration that you would be feeling. The bad u-joint will not cause the drive shaft to bounce back and forth while spinning at driving speed.

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  11 лет назад

    ya its either the NSS neutral safety switch... or the shift lever cable is a tad stretched and needs adjustment. You can adjust it on the driver side of the transmission with a little clip, then slide it one way or the other and try again.

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  12 лет назад

    This was a a great video. Clear and understandable. Heard the noise and had the service folk lubricate the joints. No noise for about a month, now I hear the noise again in Reverse. I had no idea the parts are that inexpensive, I will get them to replace. Thanks.

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  11 лет назад

    not necessarily, I would think the u-joints would be binding in either direction as they should be angled the same whether turned left or right. The clunk I would assume would be from the track bar or a loose steering box, or possibly a REally bad tie rod end.

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  12 лет назад

    well it should have a pit of rotational play... that is the slop between your ring and pinion gears. But not vertical or horizontal play as I described in the video.

  • @dynocompe

    thanks bleeping jeep, my driveshaft fell off out of the front when i hit a hard bump, i noticed the front yoke nut inside was completely off hence why it couldof fell off so easily, but now i have a vibration after putting it back together, wasnt sure if it was a bent driveshaft or what, now at least i can check my u joints first because no visual bend in my driveshaft, and its a 87 and dont want to fork out a ton of money!

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  12 лет назад

    Ya that sucks when that happens. you would think that they would make the little tabs on the side of the yolk much bigger and stronger... I'm not sure why they don't??

  • @bleepinjeep
    @bleepinjeep  12 лет назад

    I wouldnt assume the driveshaft u-joint. Usually you will get a bad vibration from that but thats about it. I would think maybe the ring and pinion or possibly the brakes have come apart.

    kicking U joints are primarily found on straight line drive like drive shafts. On steering components such as the front ends of jeeps, if the bearings are gone you will notice binding and wheel hop on turning on dry pavement.

    This was a very informative video, and I like the little bit of humor thrown in. I've read on other sites how to check for bad u-joints, but having a visual makes it a lot easier to understand now. I have a '96 f-150 that I suspect has a bad u-joint, but I'm thinking I may have a bad tie-rod end also. A few years ago, the driveshaft actually fell out of my truck. Luckily, I was going slow when it happened, but the part that the u-joint attaches to was broken or something. So I had to get another shaft, in addition to the new u-joint. I'm going to look it over this time and try to avoid a repeat.

    I've had a similar problem twice. First with my original front axel assembly and once on my second after replacing the entire assembly because a bomb went off inside my diff. The pop happens in my driveway over pot holes. And when turn wheel to the limit in either direction. On my first assembly I replaced all my tie rod ends, both my front axel U joints, sway bar bushings and links before I figured was literally just 1 bad lower ball joint.

    Is it dangerous to the car to drive it under the speed that the vibrations occur? My mechanic can't fix it until next week and I don't want to make my car worse. I'm convinced it's the drive shaft U- Joint after watching your video. I'm planning on not moving the car anywhere until I drive it to the mechanic under the speed where the vibration starts (around 35 mph) about ten miles from my place.
    Also, what part are you referencing to as the "yoke"?
    Could the failing front drive shaft U Joint cause a transmission fluid leak?
