#70 Antique Terracotta Flooring | Renovating an Abandoned Stone House in Italy

We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls! The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.

The terracotta brings colour and warmth to the rooms, the walls seem to have absorbed the colour of the tiles.🎉

Usually they fill the joints between the pavers with sand, but this is not a very good idea for the house. what will you fill the spaces between the tiles with? By the way, Happy Birthday!🎉

That is absolute perfection .How far we have come from using the materials nature has offered us for use in construction of our dwellings .In some cases to our detriment since we now realize the spiritual aspect that comes with the material of nature used with our hands .The affection we automatically feel when surrounded by these things .

Magnifico! Bravo à l'équipe, du beau travail soigné. J'aime beaucoup ces carreaux de terre cuite. En toscane on les trouvait en sous couche de toit et en sol de combles. Ils avaient un grain irregulier très plaisant et des teintes très variées, tellement plus beau que les matériaux formaté industriels.
Ne tardez pas trop à planter des arbres sur la terrasse sinon vous devrez attendre l'ombre plusieurs années pour les diners d'été sous le soleil.

These tiles were not in the house 😉 we got them from someone in Piemonte!

Il cotto è bellissimo!
Volevo metterlo anche io (appartamento in una cascina storica lombarda ristrutturata con soffitto di legno) ma il costruttore mi ha avvertito «il cotto è più delicato del parquet»
Ho optato per una ceramica klinkerizzata che ha lo stesso colore e irregolarità del cotto🙂
Suggerisco degli impregnanti, altrimenti la prima goccia di sostanza grassa o alcolica ve lo macchia.
ciao, e grazie per il feedback! Si, sicuramente proteggeremo il nostro pavimento perché il cotto è un materiale molto poroso. Stiamo valutando di usare trementina e olio di lino, sarà uno degli argomenti dei prossimi video!

I love this project. I would love to build a structure such as this on my property in Northwest Ohio, USA alas our weather is far to wet and cold for such a structure. The ground water would ruin all the flooring. I appreciate watching this ancient structure come to life.

How do you keep it clean? will you fill all the cracks with a polimer sand? Do you vacumn or sweep it? Can you mop it (wash it)? This is unsusal builting material in the USA. I love watching you build!!!
We will grout and protect it with a washable treatment!
