I'm 69 and I remember Mama canning rhubarb. That must have been in the mid to late '50s. We loved it. Dad would get us to eat it raw and tell us to drink some water. Then he said does it sharpen you teeth? That funny feeling in your mouth made us all say Yes!!! (8 kids). Thanks for a great memory...Peace!!! Bill
Hi Melissa ! I’m not a picky eater but I cannot eat rhubarb to this day. Had to eat it when I was a child & and didn’t care for it then. 😝 To me i think it’s an acquired taste just like cilantro . You either like it or you don’t. Glad you share all this with us. Take Care Be Safe. 👍👍😊
My Mom used to do the same thing every year!:) I've loved Rhubarb, in all it's glory, but I always had her various ways that she would have to turn it all into such great 'Treasures'... I can't wait to get to leave Trinka Davis, so I can get to try all of this out! Semper Fidelis
Haha senior moment, really I believe you happens all the time around here lol. I can't remember the last time I had rhubarb crisp or even canned it up. Definitely something to look into next year for an addition to the garden for me. In my neck of the woods it's mostly canned corn or cream corn, cucumbers, pickles, tomatoes, peppers, beats,(radishes) lol I not fond of them but mostly for family members, pumpkins, squash, green beans like the one you did which are the best lol, peas, and finally Joe's favorite Potatoes 🥔 haha, strawberries too. Next year I want to do peaches and apples for jams. Have you are Joe considered putting in a greenhouse in the near future, i feel it would be very beneficial for your area with the growing season so short. A couple of 20x40s with all that room would keep you from having to buy at the grocery store haha then you would have a place to keep your bees in the winter to lol. Anyway really enjoy and appreciate you and Joe for all the things you put out in your content, makes my day go by a lot faster sometimes and I learn stuff to haha. Stay safe you two and is there a date yet ? Lol not trying to rush it but you know none of us are spring chickens anymore hahaha especially once you start having those senior moments 😅 🤣 😂. Stay safe you guys and thank you. Give chunky and Joanie hugs for me, them two are sure the sweetest and happiest dogs with their new home. See ya
I tried this recipe but added more sugar as we live it very sweet, what i missed in the video is to wether you said about adding more or less sugar as per rhubarb sort?.?. Anyway for me it worked well I even got a friend to eat some with vanilla ice cream who normally doesn’t eat rhubarb on her best day Thank you for uploading
Hiya Melissa! What ya got going on? You still in LA or back home in MN? Well sitting here looking through Northern Seclusion’s FB page at the photos. I thought I’d come see what was happening with you. Good weather here in central Iowa, and tomorrow my daughter and I are going leaf watching! The leaves are so pretty but they’re not gonna last long. Will we get to see you canning tomatoes and did you freeze raspberries? What about the strawberries as well. Well, sick of this election and coved. I wish that they were both done with! TC Vicki from Iowa🦋 🍁
just found your video..looks nice and easy to do...so how did it turn out after you open the jar., is the rhubarb still firm or soft? thx marie from canada
There really isn't anything like it. I recommend getting some from the grocery store to try. It makes really good cakes, crisps or cobblers. This Summer I found a super simple Rhubarb Butter recipe, it's just rhubarb, orange and sugar and it's my new favorite. It's also a very beautiful plant, mine is in my perennial garden.
Rhubarb on its own is very tart. Which is why folks often pair it with strawberries or other fruit. If you like the “sweet & tart” type flavors then you will like rhubarb deserts. They typically add a fair amount of sugar to balance the tart. I prefer straight rhubarb deserts with sugar rather than mixing with fruits. But rhubarb strawberry pie is good.
My grown daughters know that if I’m on death row and get a last meal, that it has to include strawberry rhubarb pie! Absolutely love it!!! It looks like you ended up with a lot of jars as well. Whatever you use it for in the middle of winter will taste so good Melissa. On Joes last video we got to see those beautiful apples at the hobby farm. Will you be canning and/or freezing those for pies, bread, or whatever in winter time? Love the time that you share with us and Joe may need to build another shelf yet for canning jars. Now I want pie! Lol TC Vicki from Iowa 🦋 🍁
Miss. Melissa and Mr. Joe I was wondering if either two of you know how to deep fry potatoes like they do at a gas store. Their either 1/4 th. or 1/8 th. cut up. Thank you !!!!! GOD Bless Everyone !!!!! James and Judy Hopper Romans 6:23

I’ve never had rhubarb before. What’s something it tastes similar to?

That looks good Melissa. Better than freezing it . That can make it rubbery

could you can rhubarb custard pie filling?
I actually searched for this to try to find an answer for you and could not find anything on "canning" rhubarb custard pie filling.

My rhubarb got eaten by gophers but when I visit my Dads place I always get to bring some home I’m going to try this❤️
Did not know gophers ate it!
Please tell me.... will this work with Strawberries in with the rhubarb?
I dont' see why not
I didn't know you were keto - is it hard to do?
Why not freeze it? If you have room in your freezer, it's much faster, and easier.
They don't want to take up room in the freezer . That's why they are canning
It also gets mushy in the freezer.
Did you say you can for 15 or 50 minutes?
15
My mouth is wartering.
I have never tasted rhubarb that I enjoyed. Some of my friends like strawberry rhubarb pie, but I don't. Don't know why anyone does.
