Diego is such a sweet boy! I got my shih tzu Kiki 8 years ago. I got her as a puppy in January, and in April of that same year, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. The next few years were the hardest of my life. There were days I didn't think I could go on. Kiki was always there for me. She was so happy to see me, so joyful, so eager to play, so eager to cuddle. She relied on me. She NEEDED me. And I made a promise to her that I would always take care of her. When things got really bad, I held onto that promise, because I knew if I went away, she would never understand why. I owe my life to my little dog. To this day, she is a light in my life. I will always be grateful to her, and all she wants from me is to sit on my lap for hours, and to get her belly rubbed every so often.
After a week with Nona giving him the best human treats, you gonna try and pass off DOG treats??? Of course he isn't interested! LOL Nonas are the best doggie spoilers :)
Lol. Tell me about it. Whenever my dog gets to visit Granny's, we practically have to drag him out the door to leave. It's hilarious because he is such a velcro dog at all other times.

It was nice that you pointed out that some dogs, even if conscientiously handled at grooming time for years, may still be fearful/nervous when being groomed. It isn't always from owner/groomer "abuse" or maltreatment.
I loved the way Diego looked up at her when they started the bathing process - such trust & affection, even when in an environment he doesn't enjoy! Really touched my heart...
Diego is such a good boy-it's clear that though he's anxious, he also is used to grooming. I couldn't believe how floofy he looked after the blow dry! He's a sweetheart and his cut is adorable 😍
Wow Diego has quite a backstory, glad to see he is well loved. And it's cute while you guys were on vacation he got a vacation with with a big property and human grandparents to spoil him. What an adorable dog.
I was just like your sister -- only had big dogs for my entire pet life. Then, I somewhat reluctantly fostered a miniature pinscher after my dog had passed away. TOTALLY became a foster fail! Within a month, we officially adopted and this crazy lil min-pin has been our beloved for 9+ years now 😂
Foster fails are so fun, it just feels like they found their way to your heart without you even trying or expecting it! My friend's first dog was a foster fail- he didn't expect to get a senior pet, but 14 year old Bichon Zoey needed someone to foster her temporarily, just until they could find a permanent foster. The way she followed him like a shadow, as if he was her entire world... the change in him was visible, he no longer came home to an empty house wondering if he mattered to anyone. They quickly became inseparable, and he became so much more animated and talkative when Zoey was at his side. It became clear he wasn't letting her go 😜 They both rescued each other, really 💓

I used to say my late dog Tucker just absorbed my personality - he was always so anxious and fretful about things (I am also a ball of anxiety) and he hadn’t had a single rough day in his life, so he was just like that 🥺 Just a big ol’ sweetheart that fretted about his hoomans and what other people were doing around him.

Same, maybe the mane isn't quite as long as Vanessa would have liked, but he is adorable anyway, and it's a very manageable cut (I live in the countryside, with big short haired dogs....but I used to live with a lil chinese crested and the lion cut was one of my favorite!)
I identify fully with Diego! I'm getting a bit long in the tooth. He understands the process. He doesn't want treats. He just wants you to get on with it so he can get outta there. Much like me at the doctor or dentist. "No small talk. Just do it and let me go". 😘

Such a sweet little dog! The story how he came to your sister is very touching. Dogs really can help their owners so much! My father got his dog as a puppy and was diagnosed with leukemia shortly after. He spent almost an entire year at the hospital. Afterwards his dog really helped him to pull through and to get on his feet again. Needless to say he has a very close bond with his dog, too.
So glad to hear your dad made it through treatment! That sounds like a super-tough experience for all of you... Really glad his dog was able to give him so much comfort and support throughout all of that!

😂 he’s such a good boy ❤ My parents had a MaltiPoo named Maizey. She ALWAYS pranced after the groomer but was equally anxious as Diego. She would also sit on the back of their couch and wait for you to say “oh Maizey! You look so pretty!” If we didn’t she’d mope around, pout, and give us sad eyes 😂😂 we miss her it was so funny and precious.
Same with my Daisy. She had to go out a walk after her groom so everyone could say how gorgeous she was! I used to groom her myself, so say it myself, she did look good!

My dogs like this he's always been pro groomed (he's a rescue) and is nervous but behaves ❤
