After a volcanic eruption along the border of China and North Korea, seismologists warn that another devastating eruption is imminent that will reduce the entire region to rubble. Renowned geoscientist Bong-rae sees only one way to stop the explosion: By the targeted use of nuclear warheads at the volcano, the catastrophe should be prevented. Together with his team, the explosives expert In-chang is sent to North Korea to free the imprisoned spy Joon-pyeong. The political defector is the only one who knows where the warheads are located. A race against time begins to save all of Korea.

i told the same lol
Indeed
Tying to make p for the fault in their starter that lets you steal a car with a usb cable😝
I love it when disaster movies focus on a random person that get caught up in the event, even if they die in the end. Just having the audience root for this random guy and putting us in their shoes.
Oh, I immediately assumed he was the hero (I haven't seen this film yet) :P
1:43 The way he avoided those things rolling at him reminded me of Donkey Kong.
This movie is surprisingly good. It's less about the quake than it makes it appear though, and actually the quake is a symptom of the real disaster, a volcano. The plot to solve all this is rather convoluted and it's not really about that. It's about a couple of relationships within the group of people working on the fix. But it's very well shot, the effects are really solid. It's a satisfying film really.
2:53 in onward has me in tears laughing 😂 😂

True i was just about to comment that
Actually it's N.Kirea, why would S Korea be going through de-nuclearisation programme? S.Korea doesn't have Nuclear missiles to avoid antagonizing North Korea qnd besides TV they watching has ticker tape at the bottom that identifies reporter standing in front of North Korean government building when said building collapses due to quake. N.Korea not South Korea, South Korea are allies of the West, North Korea is Kim Jong Il Communist country, hence them having nuclear missiles.
The earthquake starts in China during the reporting scene. So technically it was an earthquake in China
@@yoh5207 No thjat is North h Korea a in reporting scene, not China. China isn't involved at all.
Yep, South Korea's soft power just took a hit with that silly title. On a side note, a movie depicting a Chinese city getting destroyed in a natural disaster (or a war) is a "No, no" under Xi's watchful eyes !!!
That’s not China, it’s Korea

@@fearless6947 So is the background and language
Yeah, it is 한국어
*Ηe probably get fooled from their eyes and language, Chinese and Korea are kinda similar.*
The main takeaway I got is that during an earthquake so violent that is can rip buildings free from their foundations, it’s possible to drive smoothly and are able to quickly redirect your steering and aren’t at all hindered by the ground causing your center of gravity to shift 10x per second
If they can do in hollywood movies why not in korean🤣
Also, apparently M7.8 quakes rip hundred foot caverns in the ground no matter where that happens to be. And Earthquake compromised buildings tip over instead of collapse (And always in the direction of the hero).
Ahhhh... Disaster Movies.

Yes
ITS from south Korea not china
The oddest thing to me is how they represented the collapsing. It almost seems like is a controlled demolishing of a building, but on a bigger scale and uncontrolled. But, realistic and satisfying nonetheless.
If you have seen videos of buildings collapsing due to the Turkey-Syria quake, it does, in fact, resemble a controlled demolition.
@@1000rogueleader Which makes sense when you think about it... physically a building has structural weak points that are going to succumb to a quake first. This is also where they would plant demolitions charges for the exact same reason, leading to buildings collapsing in very similar ways.
Love it that it's all Korean words on the walls🤣
I was thinking the same thing too. Sorry, bro, that ain't China.
If there was an earthquake that bad and buildings fall down, no way in heck would a human be even close to being able to run, they would be flat on their faces. No way in heck would the streets be that empty too.

Nah, they just use many cameramen. Or have you ever read a notice "No cameramen were harmed in the making of this film"?

That fact that when that guy was driving to escape the earthquake, he crashed to many things but his car is still clean and perfect.
Intrigued by this clip, I looked the film up and read the synopsis. I won't leave spoilers as such, but I do wonder at the naivety of the story writers and their belief that anything we can do can stop such things happening.
In many ways, its quite concerning. Anyone who regularly watches documentaries and other videos about volcanoes, knows that often eruptions, especially explosive eruptions, are often described as having the force of so many mega-tons of TNT, or compared to the power of the nuclear bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima... and I've yet to see an eruption that wasn't so many times more forceful! At best, the film's solution to stopping the volcano erupting won't work, at worst, it means the ash, lava bombs, pumice, lava and any other volcanic ejecta will be radioactive, and that would merely compound and complicate an already disastrous situation.
Even if it were to work and prevent the volcano erupting, it would only be a temporary measure. Sooner or later, the volcano will erupt again, and by stopping it, all they will have done is ensure the eruption, when it does occur, will be far larger and more violent. To stop a volcano from erupting means we'd have to cut its supply of liquid rock off at the source, and that is currently far beyond our present level of technology. The best we can do is evacuate the areas that are likely to be affected by the eruption, and for things like lava flows, dig channels and put up berms to try to direct it away from areas we want to protect. That is all we can do, because there is nothing else that we can do that will actually work!
this movie name is 'baekdusan'
À
Your Right Carolyn, your right cause this is a really realistic situation with the Earthquake being in such a big area and no officials knowing its coming cause like you said those who study earthquakes know the energy never dies its always tranfering through the planet, when it frictions against transmission we get quakes but most are releases from a lack of density being aggrivated by pumping everything from under the ground and not filling it back in its why ground compressions are so bad intercontinentally. From real life earthquake data we can predict earthquakes, I liked to watch movies on earthquakes and tornadoes as a kid but as an adult they don't offer much to understand them. Government needs disaster its never really in their interests to have us prepared. They rule us through fear any given time, always the excuse too many mouths to feed when SHTF. Anyways, movies plots like this make me crindge, average people have remained clueless about our Solar system the Nuclear solar clock and the energy currents of our magnetic feild that determine nuclear physics on the ground its why they can't just detonate any device anywhere anytime it has to follow the crack of dawn or its a dirty bomb. Nuclear plants are BS cause they never produce much power when needed because of the Atomic clock of energy scheduals between the polls, its more translucent on the oceans while maintaining conductivity because of salts its why nuclear reactors are much more efficient for power creation on war ships all nuclear plants are maintained with natural gas because nukes can't produce power when the sun is going down! Right when street lights turn on and food cooking are taking place for largest meal of the day often culturally that is the most power we use during average days. Every time hollwood throw a movie like this out there people swallow the nuclear solution as usual. Most people don't study anything Carolyn I know your different, people think we have to be decended from royalty to make our own discoveries in life its why peoples feel powerless and depressed about helping themselves. Just like the COVID lie, people are dying from smog symptoms requiring oxygen and hydration and people need help with muscle weakness etc. The world is too sick to work and too ignorant to know why. I almost died in it saving animals, I almost died from strokes the smog was so bad. I'm glad to know there are others like you who think for yourselves. SO many people are sick from smog and being treated as infectious by governments who want to take advantage of this crisis to make us sicker through vaccines policies and outright lies! Everyone has smoke detectors, none of them were protected from fire smog past 6 years world wide breathing it in and dying from the exposure no virus yet. So far, CHina has created a bubonic plague bacterium outbreak not even a month after locking Chinese citizens in their homes to starve to death with no burrial, no wild dogs or flies can get to the bodies, only rats that can crawl through the plumbing. The bodies are in indoor dry environments preserving their decomposition compared to exposed outside on the ground. The rats are now the only thing to deal with dead Chinese becasue of CCP, when CCP is not powering their GREEN crematorium power plants from the use of dead Chinese citizens and their garbage. People often think I am doomsdaying about regular eruptions in places like Etna, thing is average people don't know how bad things will get if our most active volcanic zones all went quiet energy has to go somewhere! When we get smaller eruptions in Iceland I was praising, cause we have had a lot of built up energy movement and spieks in hydrological pressure underground in Southern Ontairo which has collapsed mines and expoded wells. Etna is realeasing as much as it can, without the eruption in Iceland things would be crazy in Europe.

The effects in the film are overall extremely well done. There's a few that are obvious but mostly they did a really good job blending them in with live action.
Always love the old movie trope of having people stand around watching everything be destroyed all around them and waiting until it would be too late in real life to run away from a fire ball or a falling building.

They might be confused because there is a tie to China in the film so they think the whole thing is Chinese.
You're right

China? Do you not watch the clips before posting?
In a quake that violent, no one would have been able to remain standing or able to run. The driver would never have been able to keep control of his car, especially in the narrow street, not at any speed above a walking pace. As with all movie quakes, it is only marginally realistic. The volcanic eruption is a little bit better.
Beyond worth watching
It would be scary to see things moving on their own
This is actually in South Korea
Bruh Japan had 9.1 and it was not that destructive as shown in this movie. 7.8 magnitude is surely not gonna do this much damage
It depends on whether or not the infrastructure is designed against earthquakes. You can take a look at the 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan a few days ago: it affected mostly small villages, with pretty much no seismic resilience and the damage is catastrophic. Japan, alongside Chile, Mexico, and some west coastal zones of the USA are among the countries better prepared to face strong earthquakes (at least the big cities). But many other big cities around the world have poor building regulations when it comes to seismic design. I don't know what's the case for South Korea though.
stop using the word bruh ur cringey.
also it depends on the infrastructure, not the actual magnitude.
@@huh387 We're talking about South Korea here and their buildings are well designed for these events. And no one asked for that

The Korean peninsula doesn't really expenrience earthquakes a lot. They're probably less prepared for earthquakes and their infrastructure is probably not built as strong as Japan, which is more prone to earthquakes.
