I love how they saved the little girl, but the mum didn’t even say thanks!
Mom of the Year didn't have the slightest bit of common courtesy? The mom that fled the bridge, Costanza-style, leaving her young child behind?
Thats usually how it works.
Even get sued for savings someone's life nowadays
She also just left her little girl behind and ran to save her own life. Definitely mother of the year LMAO
Almost 10 years ago I was driving home from work, it was around noon and very hot. And I see a kid around 3 just running on the sidewalk with bare feet and I thought that's got to burn, what were the parents thinking. I keep driving and as an afterthought I check the rearview mirror and the kid is still running (and laughing) with no adults around. I almost kept going thinking someone is surely behind it or close by but for some reason the whole situation felt weird, so I turn the car on the curve and go next to the kid. Still no parents, no other adults and I have literally no idea what to do. I take the kid by the hand (I wasn't picking the kid up, it was clearly having a good time so the pavement wasn't that hot and I was not about to get seen with an unknown child in my arms, it's this kind of world) and decide to start ringing the house bells that were right next to us for information.
Just then I hear a woman screaming. And I see her from 300-400 meters away, a woman who was half dressed, shouting and crying and trying to run as fast as she could towards us. When she finally reached us she couldn't speak, just knelt down and hugged the kid who got scared and started crying too. And through the sobs she basically said she was doing house chores and the kid was playing in the garden and suddenly she couldn't see it anymore. I'm guessing (she never said it) she must have taken a lot of time checking the house too so the kid had to be alone in the streets for at least ten minutes. She finally got back up still hugging it and left. She never said thanks, didn't ask any details, she didn't even say goodbye.
So the scene in the film where the mom takes the daughter and leaves is totally realistic to me, the shock of losing someone you're supposed to take care of and then the relief that everything is ok is too much, all social interactions and conversation norms just go out of the window.
100% American
Everyone was running and that kid just sat there crying . SMDH. There's always that one kid.
Some people freeze in moments of huge fear or crisis. From outside perspective it looks daft but they can't help it and need a wake up call putting both people at risk if they can't snap themselves out of it
Where's her parents?
@@iverkjellkken6569 It's easy to loose your parents in a commotion like that. She was probably a little ahead sight seeing and before you know is everyone is running around in a panic. Kids get lost when shopping, in a natural disaster event like that theres always gonna be kids and even adults like that who get seperated
Where? Edit: never mind
She has an excuse. She is scared

Shit man!
it was the kids parents fault. you can never get away from parents who think their kids are throwaways. i have seen too many movies where that happens.
The most unrealistic thing about this scene is Lake Mead's water level
this movie was filmed a decade ago
It was that high when the movie was shot
@@misguidedangel6550 lol it hasnt been that high since the 90s
Mom wasn’t very grateful was she?!
Ha
I thought it was righteous how the earthquake respected the steel barrier that Paul Giamatti was standing behind. Not too many natural disasters understand the parameters they are obligated to stay within. Good going Mr. Earthquake.
If you actually went to hoover dam, thats where the strong good supports are at.
xD, Good doing indeed.
Yo Mama it's a movie
GET BEHIND THE BARRIERS GOD DAMMIT
The barriers are put into place to take advantage of the hydrodynamic law path of least resistance. In case of a catastrophic failure, the middle of the damn is destroyed releasing the water pressure and allowing the sides to stay up. Chances of survival are greatly increased when people are able to escape to the sides as opposed to the whole thing being destroyed. It has nothing to do with where the earthquake hit but how it was constructed.
There’s always gotta be that one child that someone’s gotta risk their life for..
@@CugerBrant every damn time

And at the end, once the kid's safe the crying parent comes & collects the child. Ffs where were you all along?!
@@GokulOnFire 3 years ago sooo…. Hmmmm… not sure probably dead
I remember watching this scene and thinking “oh good, he grabbed the kid in danger, that means he’ll live!” and then he tripped and threw her into his colleague’s arms. 😒 “well poop”
Why must there always be a child that gets separated from their parents during a disaster and instead of running away they cower in fear.
TMoney521900 the child is obviously scared. Think of the situation. When you afraid, your often in shock, or stuck in place. And when you don’t have someone you trust or that can help, your stay.
Duo Damsel you might do that but when I’m scary it shock I run and punch 🤛....
Iafiv Iv, well they need to find a different way to end the scene, cause I'm sick and tired of seeing it in almost every feckin action or catastrophe movie!
Yes because the survival instincts over million years of evolution told us to cower in fear like that, ever heard of the flight or fight response. Also this could have been such an easy fix for the script writers to show how heroic the character is in a way that doesn't feel so contrived. I would have suspended my disbelief if the person the red coat was saving was disabled, had a broken leg hell they could have showed us that she was to slow and the red coat could have picked her up while they were both running.
TMoney521900 survival of the fittest says the child would die
"Everyone, get off the dam!"
"Tim! Hurry!"
It's nice to have someone around who will point to you what to do in such unclear circumstances
What really amazing is they all listen and do it.
Plus the " TIM HURRY!!!!!" like he was already running as FAST as he possibly could!
To be fair, there are people out there that just completely shut down when confronted with overwhelming situations. But yeah, in this scene all the people he is yelling at are already running haha
It's hilarious how disaster movies always show stuff that literally can't happen. People don't realize how thick the Hoover dam is, it's thicker front-to-back at its base than the span across the top (from one side of the canyon to the other). It's an enormous wedge of concrete, more like a mountain than a wall. Any earthquake capable of making it collapse would also make the mountains around it collapse.
Where is CJ ?
you're supposed to turn your brain off watching this stupid stuff....especially the past decade or so of this hollywood drivel

Hoover Dam is a marvelous piece of engineering. It is actually stronger today than the day that was built. Concrete tends to cure for ever. This structure will last an eternity, even longer than the Giza's pyramids. If there is one safe place to be during a catastrophe is at the Hoover Dam.
Look it's a strong structure but that's just a load of arrogance.
Hmm…You know Giza‘s pyramid is already around for c 4600 years. Unlike Hoover Dam the pyramid is not constantly exposed to enourmous water pressure. And unlike Hoover Dam the pyramid is not relatively close to a tectonic boundary of continental plates, aka San Andreas fault. So while hopefully we we will never know, there is a good chance that you are wrong.
@@TheOneMonk the Hoover damn is built more like a mountain it’s more wide then it is long and absolutely indestructible and it is true the Hoover damn will most likely be one of the longest lasting human creations the water doesn’t really mean anything I don’t think you know what you mean by water pressure.
The Hoover damn was built to survive earthquakes up to 8.0 and more realistically it could handle a 9.0 the only Tectonic plate in the US that could generate that power is the Wan-De-Fuca plate off the coast of the Pacific Northwest
And another thing is the Pyramids are ALOT closer to a tectonic plate boundary (the one right off the coast of the Red Sea) then the Hoover damn the pyramids of Egypt went through a 6.5 earthquake in the 1300s and were completely fine Egypt isn’t as large as you think.
It is built from man's hand. That means it will collapse over time.
The only question is "when" but not "if".
Nothing or nobody on earth is 100% invincible.
To be clear, the Hoover Dam could not "collapse" as depicted, or really at all. Even if it did become compromised due to a massive earthquake, it would at most leak. This is because it was built to basically be a concrete mountain. No properly built/maintained concrete and steel dam has ever "collapsed." The same is true for concrete and steel buildings.
But could it collapse if the water went away? It's an arch dam after all.
@@patrickj1066 Of course it wouldn't collapse. It was made without water up against it. And it only got stronger over the decades as the concrete cured.
According to the government and the 9/11 commission, a little burning jet fuel and debris could make it collapse. just look at what it did to WTC tower 7.
@@waltersvg You're comparing apples and oranges. We weren't talking about an attack. Even so,, Hoover Dam has no exposed steel and concrete doesn't burn.
@@rogerbabson7221 You stated the same is true for concrete and steel buildings. Tower 7 wasn't attacked - it was hit by falling and burning debris.

It's so weird seeing places you've been to in a disaster movie. It gives you more of a feel for what's happening.
Tell me about it.. I used to work there, lol.. The exterior shots are VERY accurate CGI. They even captured the employee parking lots and several of the support buildings.. Now they filmed this before I worked there, but the Public Affairs officer told me that Bay used 'guerilla tactics' to film and scan Hoover as they didn't want to obtain the permits/reserve the dam for the little amount they needed.. They sent up a drone and did their scan, then dipped lol. It's not like when he did the first Transformers movie.. He did Hoover the right way.. and no there's no museum with old ass weapons in it, lol.. But, often when leaving for the day, tourists would ask what I did there and I'd respond with 'Megatron Maintenance Crew Charlie'..
Ikr that scene in Penn Station from Armageddon freaks me out, I'm like I stood there before!
i love love love, my special trip to hover! it was awesome!!! i paid one of the guides (some money) that brought me in after hours and WOW WOW WOW!!!! they had a turbine down for maintenance and i got to go into the shell area where the gates were holding back the enormous pressure and yes, THEY WERE LEAKING - LIKE SIEVES lol - but beautiful!
In every movie, there is always somebody who dies saving something or somebody...
How about the my little pony movie?? No one dies.
my birb memes are awesome King Storm dies
I have to say this, the dam is actually stronger than the surrounding mountains to a significant factor so the safest place in an earthquake might actually be on the dam than behind those barriers as it would be where the dam met the natural rock that collapsed.
Yeah they designed that thing to stand through a lot
How does it make sense to you, the dam is built on the mountain so if the mountain collapse, what can hold the dam?
@@mako4203 . You’re not meant to think that far or it spoils the Elmer Thud joke.
The dam would likely fall like a sandwich board in a gust but the question is would it go first or second?
@@anomamos9095 that's the question xD
hoover dam is actually key-wayed into the mountain on both sides in addition it is at least a quarter circle shape towards the water so the more the water pushes on the damn the more it is wedged into the mountains.

agreed
why does every kid in a movie just sit n stay still instead of running towards safety n everytime someone has to lose their life saving them . damm kids!!
Not old enough to make sound decisions and likely in shock.
My point exactly
Some kids will automatically try to hide or huddle away where they feel safe. Watch some vids of children reacting to a fake fire or safety situation. Some parents think they’ve taught their kids to “do the right thing” in a dangerous situation, but when it actually happens, kids sometimes follow their instincts to hide instead of getting out of danger.
and it shows our greater humanity to rescue the helpless. beasts save themselves. tribes look out for each other. it's also why we're still here and the sabertooth s aren't.
and that kid will grow up with a need to serve, a passion for it. and enough survivors guilt to float a yacht.
Just saying, that kid that broke down crying on the dam was natural selection...
It's a fucking kid if you wanna talk "nature": nature intends for adults to save them lmao
I was thinking the same thing, I would have probably left her thinking this unless I was the parent or I would have kicked her in the ass so that she runs to her mommy
What if i said the same if it was your kids or you, have you.ever even been in a dangerous situation in real life, ok i know this is just about a movie but if in real life something like this or any disaster happened would you like people to think the same about you or your kids. Because when a person panics more then likely they freeze up block themselves and don't think can't think even if they wanted to really bad.
@John Peric i was talking to Astro but neither would I

Alright, I seriously doubt that a 7.1 could actually do that much damage to Hoover Dam. Heck, the odds of Hoover Dam experiencing a 7.1 are pretty slim too.
The San Andreas fault is near the Hoover Dam.
This movie is so inaccurate anyways haha it literally has a tsunami in it that shouldn’t exist 😂
Apparently it has been hit with a 7.1 before, with little to no damage, although I don't know far away the epicenter was. That said, it is still not completely cured and won't be until the 2050s. Thats how much concrete they poured when they built it in the 30s. Crazy.
Ik this is late but it can hold up to 8.2
Hoover Dam is not going down from San Andreas. It sits in a very solid canyon of extraordinarily strong rock and is both a Gravity and Geometric dam. It is one of the most solidly built dams on earth. It probably is not at risk of failure except due to internal technical stuff which probably isn't a catastrophic failure. Right now with the lake about 1/3 full and dropping failure is a non-starter
It's only a movie 🍿🎥

Well realism is a demand for movies nowadays, often times when movies are down-rated on IMDB is because realism was unnecessarily thrown out of the window, sometimes facts need to be altered for dramatic effect, but sometimes they are thrown out because of pure ignorance.... Even though the entire movie was dedicated to a earthquake, they havent even investigated how big of a earthquake these buildings and structures can withstand.... The hoover dam for example is designed to take earthquake of 8.5. was it so hard for them to investigate what kind of earthquake it might take too destroy the dam? Im pretty sure they wasted 100s if not 1000's hours on this scene alone... and nobody bothered to even ask what kind of earthquake might it take to take down this dam... that too me signals pure laziness and disinterest on the part of the movie-makers.
Well dams aren't really made to withstand the force of an earthquake so we'll never know what will happen unless one happens at the hoover

The Monopoly Guy LOL
Vidar Landvik the MOVIE is telling you to not leave your kids on a fucking earthquake MORAL OF THE GODDAMN STORY...
Again, we must commend the cameraman (or woman) for their bravery!
Probably the worst writing I have ever seen.
People are easy to entertain, this is cringy AF

Yes!!!
Poor Dr. Lawrence, losing his partner and best friend. R.I.P. Kim.
It's a good thing the water knew not to cross the barrier. Very respectful.
True
I have been to the hoover dam and it is very impressive seeing an architectural masterpiece collapse like this is hard to watch since I LOVE THE WEST
I would have let that little girl stay there, her ass should have been running
Landon Starks dude she is more younger but it’s not her fault it’s her mothers fault and also if you were a kid and sit while the dam falling I don’t know what anyway you will keep saying help and if no one helps you will keep saying bad things so don’t be rude this is not a game

Amen! To that man who saved this little girls life!👏👏👍👍
There is always that one kid who forgets to run.
that is not how a dam collapses
Manish Kumar Singh then how
it goes down starting from the bottom
Mr Clean in an earthquake the arch dam collapses at its abatement.
it started from the bottom now its there
What part of a dam is the abatement?
That kid omg 😂😂
If I were the red guy I’d be like
AND I WAS RUNNINGGGGG
If the kid was younger this would be a totally acceptable situation
No

Well, good to know you are the one who now determines who is fit to live and who is not.

I am fast
I don't know how peoples can run so fast when earthquake of 7.1 magnitude hits. This scene is unrealistic. .... thoughts from my experience when an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hits in nepal.
Tell me more I'm interested
7.1 and 7.8 magnitudes are not comparable. In terms of addition, the difference may not seem like much, but the 7.8 magnitude is actually 7 times more powerful.
@@TheMarkmcr makes sense. So a 6.0 and a 7.0 is a 10 times difference in power correct ?
@@mrjaylan3364 yes
@@TheMarkmcr actually a 7 unleases 30 times more energy and the shaking is 10 times stronger

I like how the mom obviously didn’t care enough to make sure her child was next to her….
R.I.P Tim and wow that mom, just leaves kid on collapsing dam
and doesnt even say thank you. What a jerk of a mom!
His name's actually Kim. And I don't think she intended to leave her behind. They must've gotten separated in the midst of the rushing crowd like most people do in a situation like this.
@@kyleeaton2660 she didn't even say thank you. In a situation like that I personally would say thank you.
@@nugs2727 How can she say thank you to Kim when he's already dead?
@@kyleeaton2660 could just say thank you to the other guy but good point
That man was an hero! He save an kid that is very scared and sacrifice d himself :( rip him.
No one should advise others to close their eyes during such an awe-inspiring and majestic, once-in-a-lifetime event. The girl was probably sitting there to get the best viewing angle to watch the collapse in its full glory.
he asked her to close her eyes so she wouldn't be able to witness his horrible death
i cant believe they actually destroyed the hoover dam for this movie. That must have cost millions to rebuild not to mention compensation for the lost electricity.
