can you pot Itoh Peony in a container also?

I'm in zone 5 in the US and just planted 2 Itoh peonies in containers. In another video it was mentioned that the pots should be moved into a garage to overwinter. These are large terra cotta containers and quite heavy. I'm wondering if moving them inside is necessary since the peonies are hardy to zone 4.

Based on what growers tell me, herbaceous peony are good to zone 3 and itoh are good to zone 4. I live in zone 9 so I cannot tell you from personal experience.

I left my peonies in containers out for the past 2 years in NY - seeing buds ATM. Drainage is key though.

hi i want to ask if my stem turn black or leaves turn black then what should i do or treat?

Could be botrytis blight (aka grey mold ). If you have wet conditions - esp if 50 - 60 degrees F for extended days/weeks it will grow. Organic anti-fungal treatments when your plant starts to pop up in Spring can help so the mold can't take hold. Get rid of any mulch from over winter as the numerous spores from the blight will be waiting in there to re-infect your plant. Other thought...maybe the soil is staying too wet and the roots are rotting? Just some ideas...hope you are able to save your plant.

May I ask why soil needs to be peat free?

    • @sarahh2323

Peat is a non-renewable resource so it is more eco friendly to use peat free products
