Like many of your viewers, I love peonies as well. I have a long row of them, mixed colors, along my driveway and across the front of the yard. They are so gorgeous when they are in bloom! I salvaged some of the tubers when an old house was being torn down and some others a friend was removing from her old house yard. They were very old when I got them and I have had them for over 20 years and moved them 3 times as I have moved houses. If I have to go, they’re coming with me! Love, love, love peonies. I also love that support system you showed, I will look for it because we end up using individual stakes for our flowers. I also learned something about the airflow, because each year I cut back the foliage really really early because it always looks burnt and mildewy, despite incredible health of everything else around them. Thanks for your teachings.

I once heard from a landscape designer she always places peonies in her designs because even after the blooms are finished they made a nice shrub or hedge.
Thanks for the tips. I have a 25ft oval of pink, deep pink, white and 2 purple Peonies. It is packed when in bloom and the smell is fantastic. I don't have hoops but with so many in the oval I don't have as much of a problem with heads falling over. Just some around the outside edge especially during a heavy rain. I was never a big fan of peonies, but I’ve been rethinking this and am on the lookout for Tree peony’s but they are hard to find. For sure giving peonies a good support is important to help them look their best and stay upright during wind & rain storms.
You took me back to my childhood... My mom grew peonies and a gorgeous rose o' sharon with a deep purple throat. I've been planning a memorial to her for a while. Just trying to locate the perfect rose o' sharon. 😊👍💖

This is a very helpful video! We just purchased three new peony plants, so it is timely, as well. I am pleased to learn about the grids. I "inherited" peonies when we moved to this colder climate (in our prior, warmer climate I grew gorgeous roses), so I did not know how to stake them. I knew nothing about peonies, but soon discovered that they are hardy and bloom like crazy, but in contrast to roses, they only bloom once. Hence, we decided to grow more to make up for that. :) You make the process of planting peonies look very doable. Thank you!
I’ve always loved the look of peonies but assumed something so pretty would be hard to grow and maintain. Thank you so much for all the information and encouragement. Now I’ve got to find a sunny spot and decide on a variety and color.
I love peonies! My grandma had them on either side of her front steps and they smelled sooo good! Thanks for the great tips! I never even thought of steaking them and the do fall over the first time you get a heavy rain.
Thank you for this video! I can't wait to see an update. My garden is not huge, but I will find a spot for some peonies. They're my favorites. Love your videos Laura, you are such an inspiration!
I’ve used the stake rings. But what I find works great is just green twine. When the plant starts to grow I tie a piece of twine around the plant to support the plant. Then as it grows I add one more closer to the flower heads. It supports the flower heads and doesn’t show. After the flowers are spent I cut it off. I’ve never had them fall even in storms.
Hello Laura! We love our peonies! My grandmother planted similar variety...and still bluming . Question is.....our flowers don't last long in a vase,do you have any tips? Your garden is georges now at spring...I enjoy every video...best whishes😀🌸🌷🌺

I buy a peony every year. Up to four In five years of having my own garden. I have a coral tree peony and wow from a stick to year five, its over 2ft tall. Loads of blooms, I just feed it.
We used to have a Peony plant at our old house. When we sold it and moved here it got transplanted. It grew wonderfully for 25 years. This spring I had to have the area where they grew dug up...we had roots from other bushes in our weeping tiles...which caused a ground water flood in our basement. I forgot to dig up some of the tubers. I guess they were distroyed in the process. My Hosta survived. I'd like to get another Peony plant for the front garden this fall. Thanks for the information about them. Your garden looks beautiful. 👏
Thank you so much Laura for the helpful tips on peonies, I love them, especially the first type you showed us. I had never seen that flat type of cage before that’s great. Can peonies thrive in a container? Thank you so much.
A thing to note is that tuber peonies probably won't bloom for 3 years. I had to wait and wait. So, if you're impatient like me, buy them potted when you see buds already formed.
Your timing is perfect! I just bought two potted peonies, Sara Berhardt and Edulis Superba. And I was wondering how or if I should amend the soil. I also still have a bare root Green Lotus peony that I bought back in March and it's still sitting in my refrigerator drawer! I was afraid I had ruined it, but I'm going to be planting it...just as soon as it stops raining here. There is nothing like a beautiful bouquet of peonies from one's garden, love them.
@@kyrad6543 Wonderful! I'm very curious about how fragrant it is. But 3 years, yikes, gardening requires so much patience! I have never planted a bare root peony and I didn't know how long they take to establish and start blooming.

This was so helpful as I planted a peony 2 weeks ago in my backyard, not sure how much of sun it is getting at the moment. I think I may plant more next year in the front of the house as I believe it will get more sun and thrive better.
I love Peonies! I moved a large blush pink double this Spring that had been in it's spot in the ground for 13 years because it was getting crowded and it didn't skip a beat! I'm so relieved! I was reluctant to throw away all of the tuber pieces that broke off in the effort but I wasn't sure if they would grow. Will they form eyes and be able to be planted?
I don't think they grow in South Georgia, but I have come to love them. Really like the cages for them. Can think of a few other plants that can benefit from them.

Peony, tullips, rose, are my look forward to. Looking forward to see my wild flower annual mix bloom.thank you for sharing!
Peonies are my favorite!
Love the grid which I have not seen. The rain has beaten mine down so your advice on deadheading is very timely! 🌺
I got mine from Gardener's Supply.
I love peonies! My grandma had them on either side of her front steps and they smelled sooo good! Thanks for the great tips! I never even thought of steaking them and the do fall over the first time you get a heavy rain.
Very informative and those rings are nice. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I can't wait to see an update. My garden is not huge, but I will find a spot for some peonies. They're my favorites. Love your videos Laura, you are such an inspiration!
My in-laws lived on our property and planted Peonies! They are still growing on our home farm after over 40 years.
Love Peonies! I have 6, and they have fat buds ready to pop open soon. My favorite though, are my pink Itoh peonies! Stunning.
Omg, I had these bushes that popped up in my yard this spring, and I couldn’t figure out what they were for the life of me. After your video, I’m fairly convinced they’re peonies! This is very exciting. Thank you for your videos! They’ve helped this new homeowner quite a bit! :)
Hi! 💞
I just wanted to say Thank you!
Since watching your videos and listening to your tips, my garden has done fabulous! I live in western NY, Rochester area, zone 5 and ALL the plants I planted last year survived!!!

Thank you so much!!! 🌷❤🌞
So true that they are an awesome beginner shrub. I've had mine 20 years.
Loved this. I didn't know peonies would grow in full sun
Gorgeous peonies!! On my list of flowers to grow!
I buy a peony every year. Up to four In five years of having my own garden. I have a coral tree peony and wow from a stick to year five, its over 2ft tall. Loads of blooms, I just feed it.
So beautiful I love peonies 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌺😊🍃
Can't wait for the chicken run makeover update 🤣😂🤣
Me too 😂♥️ haha glad I'm not alone
Me too! I was hoping this was it when I saw the notification. Still loved this.
Me too!!

They must be one of the cutest !
I love peonies and im going to add some to my garden as soon as I can
We used to have a Peony plant at our old house. 👏
Did you ever take a photo of these peonies this summer? I’m wondering how well they performed. Peonies remind me of my grandma 💛
Thank you so much Laura for the helpful tips on peonies, I love them, especially the first type you showed us. I had never seen that flat type of cage before that’s great. Can peonies thrive in a container? Thank you so much.
This is so informational Peonies are my fav I love how they Blum.
Everything in your garden us inspiring ! I bought 3 potted peonies from my local Costco this spring: coral, white , red. Beautiful blooms !
Love peonies, I need to plant more! Thank you for info on peonies, very much appreciated!🙂🌞🌿🌱💗🥰
They are my favourite flower and luv the smell too- thanx for sharing
A thing to note is that tuber peonies probably won't bloom for 3 years. I had to wait and wait. So, if you're impatient like me, buy them potted when you see buds already formed.
You are so right! The waiting for peonies to bloom is worse than waiting for Christmas.
right!? way better to buy an established plant 25 dollars or 3 years our choice lol
I have a Saran Bernhardt, too. Heavenly fragrance! Good for you!
Green Lotus was my wishlist peony! I got a tiny tuber three years ago. This year it's finally going to bloom and I couldn't be more excited!
@@kyrad6543 Wonderful! I'm very curious about how fragrant it is. But 3 years, yikes, gardening requires so much patience! I have never planted a bare root peony and I didn't know how long they take to establish and start blooming.
@@christinepops5100 I was fortunate enough to get the Green Lotus start from a friend who has a huge peony collection. There's another green peony that I want as well. It's called Green Halo.
I have tree peony's growing around a big tree stump in my front yard by the driveway. It looks so beautiful with the roses and irises growing around the garden
They also dry beautifully. I cut mine at their peak then hang in a cool dark place upside down.
Love peonies! Just moved to Virginia, and my mother-in-law sent us some to plant. I'm going to use your helpful tips, thanks!
This was so helpful as I planted a peony 2 weeks ago in my backyard, not sure how much of sun it is getting at the moment. I think I may plant more next year in the front of the house as I believe it will get more sun and thrive better.
Could you make a video with your peonies and how to propagate? I’d love to spread the love 😄
Ellen Gill I'm in South Georgia too. Moved from Indiana where I had beautiful peonies and wanted to grow some here
@@src4409 Do you know if they are making one that will grow here? They are always trying to im
prove plants (I don't know if they really do). I would like to try. Let me know if you attempt too do so.
I've always wanted to try my hand at planting peonies. Thanks for this video! You have inspired me! You are such a great communicator too!
Lovely
Peonies are to me the best!
I looove peonies! I’d love to see an update on how these are doing!
