You inspired me to plant tulip, daffodil, and hyacinth bulbs last year, and the joy it brought me this Spring (ESPECIALLY this Spring) when I saw those pops of color was just priceless. I would find myself checking on them multiple times a day to see which had opened up, and because I didn't want to cut them, I was always on my hands and knees just smelling the hyacinths constantly. Now I have to go find some more bulbs to plant!
This was my first year also; the hyancith are so heavenly smelling! I bought more of those this year! I wonder how big the giant ones she talked about are!

Whenever Laura is in the cold frame, do you look past her to see what else is sitting on the tables? I love to “snoop” and see what all is going on in there. 😂
For my fellow zone 9 gardeners (I’m 9a in Louisiana) amaryllis, daffodils, paperwhites, gladiolus, calla lilies, crocosmia, oriental lillies, and agapanthus are all reliable spring bloomers and perennials (agapanthus blooming off and on throughout the summer as well). I have tried alliums which grow leaves every year but never bloom. Tulips will bloom weak some years without the refrigerator method, but some years they don’t bloom at all; they never are perennial either. Some iris cultivars, especially the smaller growing spring blooming varieties struggled in my garden for a few years before dying. Our native Louisiana iris are much more suited for our climate. I have never tried hyacinths, crocus, and fritillaria.
💕 Who wouldn’t LOVE 💕 to get a ton of bulbs to plant. Laura inspires so many people daily to continue to improve their garden spaces. 💕 Laura has shown so many incredible options of bulbs that with their beauty, would make anyone fall in love with gardening all over again! 🌷 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
wowsers!! singing "anticipation" over here... that will be spectacular!! fyi, some bulb companies, like Colorblends Wholesale Flowerbulbs, will chill the bulbs for those of us in those warm zones... i ordered bulbs in 2019 from them in september and they chilled them for me for a small fee (like $30?) and then shipped them to me in January 2020 when it was time to plant here in southern california... i loved it because i didn't have to find a place here or use my refrigerator storage for them.. this display is going to be a showstopper!! love the color choices... thanks for the video!!
Wow, on the giant daffodils! I can't wait to see them when they are in bloom at your house! How big do the giant hyacinth get? They are my favorite bulb. I just love having them in the house, their scent is heavenly!
I can't wait to see the blooms! Laura made me recall a display In Tamaqua, PA. Every spring tulip lovers drive to enjoy the amazing tulip display. Years ago this garden was featured in Better Homes and Gardens magazine. I guess the lady is not publishing pictures of her garden on the Internet. It's our loss! People in the area call her the tulip lady. Hopefully some tulip lover from her area could put pictures of her glorious garden for everyone to enjoy.
Laura, I'm in envy of your cold frame and would love a similar space but only have a small yard. Could you please do a video (or tell us in your weekly Q&A) showing us how to achieve the cold frame benefits on different scale. For example, would a 10 x12 cold frame stay warm enough at night (zone 5b) or do you need the large space to maintain daytime warmth. And do they need to be placed in full sun?
Maybe I can help. I am here in west Michigan zone 6a (5b in a bad year). We put up a Pelram 10x12 cold frame/greenhouse about 3 years ago. The best investment I’ve ever made. In the fall I drag into the greenhouse all my large pots, small pots, plastic etc. and I plant the tulips and daffodils in there. I use the smaller plastic pots as drop ins for larger planters that I can’t move. My technique is Pretty much exactly the way Laura does it. It works great! For years I tried putting bulbs in pots around the yard. I was never successful. If the squirrels didn’t get them, the excess moisture did. In the cold frame I was able to control the watering and the pests at the same time...game changer. I was able to maintain about a 10-15 degree bump on even the coldest nights. I did invest in a small greenhouse heater that I didn’t have to use until April when I brought my stuff that I had started indoors (pansy, viola, snapdragons, stock) outside to harden off. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I live in zone 9b in California. I plant spring bulbs and corms: tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and crocus in November, even as late as December and they have always bloomed for me. I never dig them back up to chill for next year. They have come back year after year. The crocus are the only ones that give me trouble. Daffodils are the strongest. I don't like doing extra work if I don't have to. So if you're in the same zone as me do a little experiment and see if you have the same luck I do. Happy planting all.

Hyacinth belongs to Christmas flowers in Finland, they are bought in a reasonable amount as ready-made flower arrangements especially white and purple, pink and blue the poinsettia also belongs to the christmas flowers
Because of this very inspiring video I've just placed another order of bulbs to plant in my window boxes which will winter over in the garage until I can bring them out in the spring.
What I love about the preparation videos is all the information that you provide. Then you alway follow up at a later stage, showing us the plant’s progress. Thank you so much for explaining my bulb zone requirements. I’m a first time bulb buyer and ordered 600. I could not understand why they haven’t arrived but now I get it, they ship according to my zone for planting purposes. You are the best at making me a better gardener and take me way out of my comfort zone. I can’t wait to pot up my bulbs for spring. Does ZONE 9 mean I can leave my bulbs in the ground all year and they will return? Do I need to dig up all 600 when the season is over? 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
First time planting bulbs 125 to be exact. It was a blast my 13 year old son drilled the holes and I planted the bulbs. Thanks for all the true grand moments.
Hi Laura - loved seeing your beautiful pots again - can’t wait to see the spectacular spring display! Where are you going to put them on your property?
Zone 7 and I have no trouble planting Tulips or Daffodils in the ground. What I have an issue with is-- too wet and they rot (tulips) and Voles will eat all the tulips. So I use Repels tablets, sharp gravel, hardware cloth , AND cages to plant my tulips. Laura try a picnic table to stagger pots I bet you could get a lot on the table part and the smaller ones on the benches which you could move around. Maybe disguise a straw bale? Good luck!!!! Love the colors--XXXOOO
It's her full time job and business so it obviously necessitates spending their money. Your reacting and commenting gives her more money to throw into her plants.
Thanks, this will be a beautiful display. I always did this with my kindergarten class as it is just good to "get dirty" & a great way to teach about the seasons. We kindergarten teachers got the whole school involved after the first couple years & in April, it was a beautiful sight.
And if you store them in a refrigerator for their cold period, "chilling", make ABSOLUTE SURE there is NO PRODUCE in the refrigerator. The ethylene that off-gasses from fruit, especially apples, will cause the bulb to NOT bloom.
I chilled some in bottom drawer and bottom part of door. Only double varieties didn’t bloom. Was planning to put in freezer this year, since my freezer isn’t keeping ice cream hard, but apparently it’s not a good idea? I don’t get it....she lives in zone 5-6 and the inground bulbs come back. I wonder how cold the actual ground gets there.
Hyacinth s are my new favorite. My granddaughter planted hers yesterday. So cute! I planted daffodils everyear for 30 years with my third grade students now my legacy in front of the school I just retired from! Now my granddaughter loves to plant ! 💐🥰
I also live in Oregon, but a Zone 8. I have always planted in the fall and left them outside. No matter the winter, normal, warm, really wet, or really cold, they always come back, and reproduce. I can then just leave them for the next year.
Thank you SO much Laura. Last night I was looking for videos on how to plant bulbs in containers and today you appeared with this informative video. It couldn’t come at a better time for me. Thank you VERY much!!!!

This inspired me. Just bought some bulbs and now anxiously awaiting them to get in!
Those pots are just beautiful ! Almost don’t need flowers !
I would love the same info! Hello from a Colorado gardener!
I would like the same here.. since I'm looking to add a green house.. here in Va 8a
Maybe I can help. Good luck!
@@shellydevries6083 thank you, great information.
Would be interested also ... i am in Michigan also 6a (now) 🤗

Good morning! 🌻🐝
Good evening
Forget about the bulbs, the containers are gorgeous. 🌷

@Garden Answer ; 😀 Claus is from Denmark 🇩🇰 So am I 😊 And I have been following you so long ❤️ You are my inspiration and every day I wait for your video 🙏😊 So funny to se that he was your inspiration.. he is very creative and skilled 😊 thank you for all your hard work. Love from Denmark 🇩🇰
Purple and white, love those colors together! These containers are gorgeous! Thanks for this informative video!

Thanks. Now I have that song stuck in my head. Better than Baby Shark I guess.
Wish my bulbs were here. Hopefully the company I ordered from will get them to me in time to get planted. Yours will be lovely. Bulbs give me something to look forward through the winter.
Hyacinth belongs to Christmas flowers in Finland, they are bought in a reasonable amount as ready-made flower arrangements
especially white and purple, pink and blue the poinsettia also belongs to the christmas flowers
Growing tulips and daffodils for the first time . Thanks for the tips .
Sooo looking forward to seeing all these bulbs next spring! 🌷⚘
Because of this very inspiring video I've just placed another order of bulbs to plant in my window boxes which will winter over in the garage until I can bring them out in the spring.
Those containers look so pretty
I mean I love soil as well as the shape of containers😂
Lol
Wow. !!! That should be an awesome sight come spring!!! 👌❤️🌷🌷🌷
Perfect timing! I’ve been getting nervous anticipating my bulb delivery!!
No need to, A novice like me planted bulbs for the first time last year, with great results, just need good soil and you should be good
Thanks you
@@verawallace9055 thank you! My delivery comes in two days!! 🌸
You're Welcome, best of luck to you both 🍁🌷
What I love about the preparation videos is all the information that you provide. Then you alway follow up at a later stage, showing us the plant’s progress. I personally think there is nothing more encouraging than seeing your efforts come to fruition, and then being able to pick the blooms for arrangements, if you want to.
Maybe it’s a Scandinavian thing because I’ve seen it on several European gardening Instagram accounts. But that display is gorgeous, especially with aged containers!
Haha the Cheddar show ...that was so funny.I love Cheddar 🐈🐈🐱 Love the pots so much ...love the oval one and the bow jardinieres ...love that you gonna plant them in bulbs 🌷🌷🌷 I did my first pot of bulbs this year and the tulips were the best 🌷🌷🌷 Gonna be beautiful 💚💜💚 Love it when you plant containers 😍😍
I was wondering when you would be planting bulbs! I planted my daffodils Friday. Thank you for the inspiration to plant bulbs in pots. I may have to try it!
I love how much I learn from you. I'm 47 years old and have gardened all my life and STILL learning and experimenting. You put the fun and thrill in gardening. Thanks so much.
The video I’ve been looking for on how to plant bulbs in containers. Laura it’s a year old and still viable. I enjoy it when you educate and demonstrate. By far my most favorite type of videos you put out. Check it out you got 30% of subscribers viewing it. Impressive on all accounts. I know you’re busy with the South property. But I do hope you’ll continue to teach us in your current processes. Even with all the new stuff going on learning from you never gets old.
I planted a pot of bulbs yesterday. Thank you for the directions of what to do next. Can't wait for spring!
It sounded like she liked the idea of entryways in groups.
Could use pallets for the stands for pots. Painted black even
All concrete pots so.beautiful.. of course when all bulbs is blooms its gonna be amazing.... can't wait to see them blooms..
Planting bulbs in the fall is like getting pregnant with flowers. Thank you for the inspiration!
Pregnant with flowers is so much more pleasant than with child. 🤣 Less pain at "birth."
Oh, I can't wait till Spring!!! Lilacs and Tulips are my favorites!!!
i knew you were gonna post something with bulbs! Theres a video you posted exactly 4 years ago
Moved to zone 9 a couple years ago. Awesome to know I can just put the bulbs in the refrigerator!
I know its not your favorite chore, but I love your fall bulb planting tutorials

Hello! Wondering If you have done an update on these bulbs you planted?
is it me or do these people always seem to have thousands of pounds to throw at gardens
It's her full time job and business so it obviously necessitates spending their money. Your reacting and commenting gives her more money to throw into her plants.
Her family owns a garden center.
She sells these at her garden center

Thanks, this will be a beautiful display. I always did this with my kindergarten class as it is just good to "get dirty" & a great way to teach about the seasons. We kindergarten teachers got the whole school involved after the first couple years & in April, it was a beautiful sight.
And if you store them in a refrigerator for their cold period, "chilling", make ABSOLUTE SURE there is NO PRODUCE in the refrigerator. The ethylene that off-gasses from fruit, especially apples, will cause the bulb to NOT bloom.
I thought it's ethylene that fruits emit, no?
@@Bamboo4U2 You are correct, I am wrong. I'll see if I can edit my comment. Always think Methane, but that's cows!
@@Wazupu florists probably know the ideal temperature range for forcing bulbs and/or bulb growers. It's (I think) an interesting topic to explore.
@@1erickjon I can delete my initial response if you want. Let me know.
Another Cheddar inspected and approved project! I will be planting bulbs in containers for the first time this year; can't wait to see the result.

Wow!! Look at all that room in there!! That extra high tunnel in the new property is a huge help!!
I can not wait to see these in all their glory in the Spring. These Bulbs + These Planters = Perfection
Just in time! I haven't planted tulips before in pots, but just ordered some, and will use Laura''s info for planting.
Bulbs, what a terrific reminder of spring. Would love tulips.
Thank you SO much Laura. Last night I was looking for videos on how to plant bulbs in containers and today you appeared with this informative video. It couldn’t come at a better time for me. Thank you VERY much!!!!
you also inspired me to plant tulips, hyacinth, and crocas. love your videos you make me smile.
Accidentally finding you was the best thing ever!!
It made me realise I love gardens and now 10 months later I'm always planting and it brings me true joy.
All these years later I found my "hobby".
Thank u for being so inspiring, best garden channel ever! 🙌
I live in Norway and have planted these outside and it have worked fine so far.
Cheddar is the sweetest cat omg. It is my fav part when Cheddar makes an appearance in the videos.
This video was so helpful. I recently planted my bulbs in the ground, but I'm dealing with squirrels and chipmunks in my area so I covered everything with chicken wire. Now I see I have other options. Thank you so much! I continue to learn and be inspired every time I watch your videos.
