    I purchased Itoh yellow peony at Costco for $14 a pot 4 years ago. Transferred it to ground, with less intense sunshine, near a downspout of rain roof drain. It did not bloom for 3 years, but it is still alive. Now, 2024 it blooms with 2 beautiful yellow flowers by Memorial Day. I guess it was too young to bloom and it has to be settled before it provides new bloom.

    I'm wondering if the second one you buried a little too deep?? they say if you plant peonies too deep they won't bloom any flowers. I had a big peonie that's never been touched for about 10 years that I moved, it was a huge massive root. I dug it up and decided to divide it into about 20 smaller plants. I'm hoping I have a 100% success rate, these were planted in the ground

      That was my thoughts also , first one good , second appeared too deep. Planting of Itoh peonies is tricky.

      Thanks for watching and commenting and sorry we are just seeing this (2 years later)!! The 2nd planting may have been a bit "deeper" than the 1st one but they both bloomed beautifully!! This will be their 3rd year blooming and we cannot wait to see them again!

      Peonies are very forgiving flowering plants. Ants love them. Every year, I have to divide a mother peony and transfer it to another location/space I can find around my garden. They always shows up and states to bloom within a year or 2.

    Is there a video showing the itoh peonies at the middle and end of the season? Also - do you know if "in general" peony roots grow horizontally or vertically? I was imagining that you might plant the root at a different angle given all the root growth that was on one side, and pointing it downward would allow more room for root growth..

    These do not rebloom. Itoh do not bloom for a long time depending on your zone. I’m in Pa and blooms last a week. Many take 2 years to bloom from bare root.

    Do you leave the planters outside all year round?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! Yes, we do leave them outside year round. In our Zone 9a(formerly 8b) they do great in our larger containers. If you are in a lower numbered zone, consider either "heeling-in" your Itoh containers, placing up next to a shed or home, or bringing inside your heated garage for the colder times of year in your area. We say this because of these plants being a containers, their roots are exposed to the colder-harsher temperatures (compared to being planted in the ground and having much more insulation around their roots) which can lead to damage and, in some cases, death of plants. Hope this helps you in your garden and thank you for watching! 👍😊😉

      Yes, we've been growing ours in the same pots they were first planted in over 2 years ago. They're budding up for the 3rd season in a row. These pots were at least 22 inches in diameter (I think we stated exactly in the video). Hope that helps!

    Can pot planted peonies be left outside throughout the winter months?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  2 года назад +1

      Hi Lori! 👋 That is a great question. 👍 It depends on your growing zone (USDA Hardiness Zone) and how hard your peonies are. Both the Cora Louise and First Arrival peonies in this video is hardy in Zones 3-8, so they have a really good growing zone range and are really hardy, because Zone 3 goes down to -40F. So, by this, if you are growing your Itoh peonies in containers, as long as your outside temperatures don't reach down to -40F, your peonies should technically be ok to be left outside during the winter months. If you have any doubts about this, you can always place your containers up next to your house or garage or greenhouse so they have some residual heat over the winter. So, check your peonies for their hardiness and then compare that to the USDA hardiness zone you are growing your peonies in and that will tell you what you need to do to protect them. Hope that helps and thank you for watching! 😉😃
