In this video I give you some tips for planting peony tubers in pots or in garden. Although, for the purpose of this video, I plant peony tuber in a pot, the best way to grow them is, of course, in the garden. However, the secrets of planting peony are the same - in a pot or in the garden.

My peonies bloom for the first 3-4 years, they come back every year nice foliage BUT NO Flowers blooms by NO FLOWERS???? Help Me
What if you don’t bury the eyes of the peony?
Photos and an update is on my Facebook page Anna's Violets here: facebook.com/pg/Annas-Violets-1356082904534579/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1417111288431740
Thank you. Do you take it out of the pot in the winter and replace it next year?
Hey Suku. No, peonies do not like to be repotted. Once you plant it, it's better not to touch it any more. They stop blooming, if you repot them often
Hi! How big is your pot? I’m watching your video for peonies and I just got my bulbs! Thanks!!!!
It's for about 10-15 litres. Which variety/colour is yours?
Thank you for the video! This was great! I recently bought a peony bulb and I have a pot (smaller than the one you have). Do you recommend a larger pot?
Thank you 😊 Yes, they need space. The bigger, the better. What colour is your peony?
Anna's Violets okay great! I think I need to go back and purchase a bigger pot. Do you know the diameter of the one you showed in this video? Mine is a pinky/white variety (at least that’s what it shows on the picture haha) 😊
@@MillaBella I guess, mine is 42. Yeah, and mine should be pink according to the picture :)
I have a 35cm pot for purple spider peony root I have just ordered. Will this be ok for the first couple of years?
Hey Jenna, the thing with peonies is that they don't like to be repotted. I would take a bigger pot
If there are shoots on the tuber should you cover the shoots as well? I have one shoot that has a small leaf, not sure how much of the shoot I should cover up :(
If there are tony shoots, I would cover them. But if there is a leaf already, I would not cover it.
@@AnnasViolets it’s a really long shoot with 2/3 tiny leaves 🥺 it is very cute haha thank you for ur advice! I have left most the shoot uncovered hope it works! :))
@@HD-in2mp Yes, it must work :)
I have bought peonies in the pot, already green, but they didn’t bloom whole year. And there have been enough sun. Maybe I should change the soil or the pot, maybe it was too deep? Hope it will bloom this year...
The best way is to grow them in the garden. They also need to be in the "right" place and they get used to it for years before blooming, unfortunately...
Hi! I lived here in eastern Canada.Should i plant the peony bulb on the ground this coming spring or on the pot? When is the best time to plant the bulb? Thanks
Hi Helena. I would plant the tuber in a pot first indoors so that it starts to sprout. You can move it to the garden when there is no risk of freezing temperatures.
@@AnnasViolets thank you
@@helenatan1030 🌸🌸🌸
What would to use for indoor plant
How often do you water them in pots? Thanks!
Hey Jack, the pot is pretty big, the soil stays damp for a couple of days. However, it really depends on the weather. If it's very hot, it may be every three days. If it's a bit cooler, it can even be a week. I always check
When give start of water , i potted few month now , some bulb just came out now . Here season is going to spring but still winter i just keep cold place in my house . When i give to start water :)?
Hey Fan, mine is outside. I will start watering when the temperatures get higher. I would recommend watering it when it's warmer
I planning to plant my peony bulbs one of these days (UK) ...please tell me how long it can take to sprout, leaves and finally bloom ?
Isn't it still too cold to plant peony in the UK? I would still wait or plant them in a pot and then repot to their permanent place. Although they don't like to be repotted. They will sprout faster, if it's warm, maybe within 3-4 weeks, but would flower after a couple of years. 🌸🌸
@@AnnasViolets ohh I was told they can be planted in cold starting in January
@@123Starring Well, maybe they are right. It really depends how cold is it in January in your area. It can be +5C or -20C. I would probably plant it when there is no risk of frost any more
I have a dilemma about where to place the pot . I have a terrace which receives sunlight from morn to evening it's okay in winter coz the sun is not that strong but at other times the heat will be too strong. And other place is also a terrace but it has roof ,it gets slight sunlight but not much where should I plant it . please tell me. In the roofed terrace I grow periwinkle, amaryllis, jasmines etc
Hey Nandita, it really depends. They do like sun, but if it's too burning in your area, then maybe under the roof next to amaryllises it will feel fine. If you feel they grow leggy, then it's not enough. Are you going to plant tuber in the spring or you have a plant already?
@@AnnasViolets I'm going to the plant the tuber
@@dazzjeongling8440 Then I would say decide on a place before you plant it, because they don't like changing the places, it will delay blooming. Also, the most important thing is the depth of planting the tuber :)
Do we receive blooming within the first year of planning? Some says Peony will bloom in the second year of planning
Hey Hamed, I would say it will bloom in the 3rd or even 4th year. Unfortunately, they don't bloom the same year after planting
I just planted my peonies yesterday, I'm worried if I planted them too deep
I can't tell, unfortunately. Did you cover the growth point, where the stems are starting to grow?
What if you don’t bury the eyes of the peony?
How long until you start to see growth? :)
3 months after planting I had quite big leaves already. The photo is on Facebook Page here: facebook.com/1356082904534579/photos/a.1417111288431740/1434061640070038/?type=3&theater. But for blooms it will take a couple of years
@@AnnasViolets Thank you!! I have 3 bulbs hoping they'll grow. My favorite one is a Coral Sunset. I have alot of red and white ones from my grandma but I'm trying to get a variety.
@@shelbyconn9343 Oh, I've never had white, just dark red, and this one should be pink. I adore their fragrance. They are all beautiful and definitely a must in any garden. I wish I could see a picture of your varieties :)
@@AnnasViolets For some reason it wont let me upload pictures on RUclips.
@@shelbyconn9343 Yeah, it's not possible to add pictures on RUclips :(
If it grows in your pot, are you saying you won’t be able to plant into the garden?
Hey Jack, it's possible to repot it and grow it in the garden. However, peonies don't like to be disturbed, and they may not bloom for some years after repotting. Mine is small in any case and it hasn't bloomed yet. However, it gets bigger and bigger. There is an update photo on Community tab on this channel. 🌸
@@AnnasViolets hmm I just don’t know if I should plant in a pot or in the space they’re eventually going in the garden. It’s been raining so much all throughout May!
@@JackD87 It's better to plant it in the garden. I was just moving from a place to place and didn't have a garden
I think that’s planted upside down? I watched a ton of RUclips videos and the root part goes horizontally not upward...
I think people plant them differently tho🤷🏼♀️
No, no :) You can see in the picture that it's growing pretty well :) Do you also want to grow peony?
@@AnnasViolets any video update on your peonies? We would like to see them. I am inspired to plant peonies.
@@airah11 I don't have a video update, only pictures. But I'll try to make one soon. Thanks for the idea :)
Your eyebrows are to die for.
Thank you 🙂
I thought the ants pollinated peonies, weird haha maybe they just eat the nectar
Maybe, Peter :)
I don’t know about another people did they comfortable with this video the noise it so eco not a nice show to me
It's one of my first videos, when I just started 2 years ago :) sorry for the noise. The audio of the recent videos is much better
Lady, with all due respect, delete the video and do it all over again because the part facing up, supposed to face downwards.
I am sorry to say this, but the position of the tuber is absolutely right. Please have a look at update photos in the Community. It grows perfectly for 2 years already 🌸
@@AnnasViolets
Not according to other nursery videos. The stick side was the root but if it worked out for you, more power to you
@@surprise4089 The stick is the old stem, where you cut the dead stems in the autumn. You can even clearly see the sprouts on the tuber already. :)
