    I actually really liked this lol. Even when the killer just walking, i enjoyed the sounds and the scenery of the woods. The characters were obnoxious and cringy, yes. But i thought the kills were brutal and cathartic. The lack of music made it feel very cold and matter-of-fact to me

    The two biggest sins this movie does: Three death scenes off camera (???) and the final 20 minutes that completely deflate the rest of the movie.

    *Spoilers*
    The reason there was no jump scare im the end was because the final girl left the pocket watch (on gasoline container) before she left running. Jimmy obtained the watch, thats why he didn't pursue her any further.
    Thats why there was no final kill scene.

    The movie really made me feel myself aging as I was watching it in the theater. It was one of the few movies where I genuinely wanted my money back. What gets me is that critics like this movie because it’s “artistic” and experimental. I could paint a canvas with shit and it’s artistic and experimental, but it’s still shit no matter how you look at it. When it comes down to it, this movie is not for horror fans. It is critic bait, plain and simple.

    I couldn't agree with you more, that boring ending speech. My stream stopped when the last one got killed and like you I thought wait there's still over 20 minutes left, what are we doing here. It felt way longer than T2 with 138 minutes. An awesome and some good kills can't carry it through the whole runtime. The concept might have work. Unfortunately not here. I was on board in the beginning but it went downhill in the end.

    Valid points; however, I do like the use of sound and how important it is for the demise of the characters, hence the ASMR. I also like the humor (whether intentional or not) especially when the teens describe him as slow… not to mention the wide shot showing him walk after the trucker guy lol.

    I HATED this movie. It's only the 2nd movie I've ever walked out on. I've never seen a movie so far up its own ass.
    I stuck around through the yoga kill that everybody's been raving about. Sure, it's creative and gruesome but it's also an infuriating example of "bury your gays" and wholly unearned with how dull and pretentious everything leading up to it had been. I was the only one in the theater so as soon as that kill was over, I checked the time on my phone. When I saw that there was still about half the movie left, that was where I called it quits. I had no desire to continue subjecting myself to something I was already finding insufferable.
    I think this could have been a brilliant short film. 45 minutes to an hour at most, one shot, stick to the gimmick of following the killer as he stalks and kills the teens. It could have been incredible. But what we got instead was meandering, poorly edited, and far too pleased with itself.
    It's also the only movie to ever give me motion sickness with that ridiculous spinning shot around the campfire that goes on and on and on... So yeah, great job all around.

  • @Fernando_616

    It was an ok movie, but I think people’s disdain for some choices caused them to rip the whole movie. Complaints of this film are literally prevalent in like 99% of slashers lol
    The best example I can give you is the complaint of memorable characters or final girl. You named off the most well known characters of several franchises from across over 40 years of movies lol That should tell you that in this genre great characters aren’t a rule so much as an exception.
    Anyways, 6/10. It would be a cool character to see again, but there’s no reason to revisit this world

    • @thomasffrench3639
      @thomasffrench3639 25 дней назад

      And only 1% of good slashers. Just because a genre does something bad does not mean that everything in that genre does a poor job with it. You don’t need good characters to enjoy a slasher, but you probably do if you want to make it a good slasher

    • @Fernando_616
      @Fernando_616 25 дней назад

      @@thomasffrench3639 the character stuff is all too subjective to really make a big deal about honestly. There are characters I enjoy that others don’t and vice versa. And I’ll argue about how great of a final girl or victim someone is because it’s always a fun conversation lol And I think being memorable is only something that can occur over time, or with sequels

    • @thomasffrench3639
      @thomasffrench3639 24 дня назад

      @@Fernando_616that’s fair, it’s all subjective. My main point was that he’s saying that is a fallacy, which I agree with. I just get annoyed when people hold slashers to different standards to other films, when they’re plenty of slasher films that a good to the standards of a “normal” film. Now of course judging a film for what it is trying to do is important, but dismissing flaws someone has because “that’s just the way the genre is” is a fallacy. And if it doesn’t bother you and you can still enjoy it, than props to you, but because I’m not a fan of slashers just because they’re slashers, I need something in the film that is good. And in this case I thought the cinematography and sound design was great, which kept me engaged, but I’m not going to dismiss the flaws I do have just because of the subgenre.

  • @thomasffrench3639
    @thomasffrench3639 25 дней назад +3

    I actually found this movie the exact opposite of boring. It was hypnotic and really engaging with the cinematography and sound design. If you’ve seen a decent amount bad slasher movies like I have, there’s way more boring films in this genre than this one.
    That being said this feels very much like a backhanded tribute to the genre. Like I’ve seen people both slasher fans and non-slasher fans (who have seen a decent amount of slasher films) say this film represents the genre as far as the victims are concerned, and I cannot disagree more. Sure some slashers that suck might have victims this badly written and acted, but not the good slasher films. There’s a lot of examples (Funhouse, The Burning Friday 13th Part 4) that I do not feel like getting into here, but the fact that this is a common sentiment for this movie is really annoying. And it’s like people refuse to acknowledge it for this movie.

  • @22lagoon
    @22lagoon 25 дней назад

    I was super let down by this movie as well, however I was less bothered by the length/pacing and more so bothered by the bleak tone and the lack of any distinct personality from the killer. I think I was expecting a much more campy & silly movie like a Friday sequel, or even something equally self-serious as it is corny like the new Halloween trilogy. To me, those movies are bleeding with a distinct energy that keeps them as super fun watches despite it being horror. What we got here instead felt long, very bleak, basically missing the fun-factor that makes slasher movies tick for me. Without that it-factor, the movie feels pointless. It was stylish for sure, but fun moments I’m waiting for like the yoga kill felt like extreme outliers in an otherwise mundane experience.
    The sawmill/lumberjack kill stands out as a low point for me, as in concept it sounds like an awesome idea that would easily be a highlight of the film, however in execution it was really lacking in creativity. It wasn’t fun or exciting, it honestly wasn’t that scary, and it didn’t even bother attempting to make the killer look cool, so again what was the point of the scene? It was shot and framed very blandly, with a camera that never moves or cuts, and the victim in the scene is “paralyzed” so he can’t even utter a scream. It is impressive how mundane it felt to watch the killer get such an extreme kill, and some might argue that was the point of the “killer perspective”- to which I counter is just not a very fun or exciting way to execute this concept. Maybe I’m too used to watching Jason kick wheelchair kids down flights of stairs, but in my opinion that sort of tone would have been a lot more appropriate and entertaining for a concept like this one.
    Oh and what a flat, dragged out ending to add insult to injury. I really went into this movie thinking it would be an easy new favorite of mine just off the concept alone, so this was a massive let down for me.

    Just watched this movie and it was decent. Nothing spectacular in horror. The kills were imaginative but the rest was lackluster.
    The entire movie felt like the director wanted to make a Friday the 13th in third person.
    The original four Friday the 13th’s are four decades old and still more fun than this. Better actors, musical score, and villain.
    Bottom line. I’ll take a hockey mask wearing Jason over a firefighter mask wearing Johnny,any day.

    They should have called it "In a Boring Nature". The Yoga Girl scene that everyone talks about is so stupid, and I'm not talking about the killing or the gore itself, is the character and the stupid way they resolved the scene. What happened? She forgot to walk sideways? Than after not trying to save herself at all (because I guess her survival instict was too damaged from so much yoga) she just stands there staring at the void just kind of "accepting her fate". And then after killing her with an extreme pilates move he just throws her body down the hill. Not a cliff, a hill... Since she forgot how to walk sideways she could at least tried to slide down the hill to save her life... that scene is so stupid! But hey... what do I know? I'm not a movie writer.
