GREAT START, Todd I might be a little pre-mature on this but I'm seeing a small CAT dozer in the fleet future ( D2 or D3 ) I would love your input on that. As always God bless y'all from Gaffney South Carolina viewer 🙏❤️💯
Love the content thanks very much, my dad was an excavator operator and that is my dream career unfortunately he passed away before he could teach me, I'm from Scotland and wish to work in America on excavators and machinery.
@@DigginLife21 it's my dream to go over its difficult to come over to start working, I would need to try find a company to work for before I could come over so I could say I'm coming over to a job, hopefully one day!
Great start! I’m from Southeast Missouri (the boot heel). The particular area where I live is all sand. Can be a headache to work with sometimes, but it makes for easy digging.
Man you're such an inspiration. Watching your business grow is awesome. We just started about a year ago. We have a long ways to go. But we're pushing hard. Great start
I have to figure out how to get more jobs like this. I’ve started in mulching and general skidsteer work. I get more mulching work than anything. But the last 4 weeks I’ve been without anything. I have a day job so I’m not just sitting around but can’t figure out how to make things really take off. I like the mulching but would prefer to do more dirt work. Way less stress on my machine. I have a 2021 cat 289d3 and a 65hp John Deere 5065e. If work ever gets me consistent I want to get a mini ex next. Can do a lot of diverse work with that set up. Work was really coming in this summer but things are kind of dead at the moment. Any tips on how to get into more of the excavation side of things?
Hey Todd, Chris's thumb would work really good on your machine, I don't know why manufacturers put small thumbs on machines, I know it's got to be difficult to pick stuff up sometimes, but everything cost, good video bud, thanks for sharing 🇺🇲💪🌲
They do it like that (narrow) for a general purpose machine, it is hard to dig a deep trench or footings with a wider thumb. I do think Cats thumb could use some improvements. @Tristar Diggin' channel you can see it is weak at the pin and can spread open.
listening to that engine rev up and down all day would drive me crazy, not a fan of the new Cats, Deere 85G for the absolute win. Also, the installed drain pipes, my opinion they should have been surrounded on top bottom and sides with crushed stone. Whatever doesnt make it into the pipe will follow the stone and outfall.
I want to build some roads and trails like that on my residential property, similar ground, I'm in upstate SC, and I'm wondering your opinion trying to do that with a mini-excavator, Bobcat E60. Thanks, thumbs up!
While the urban-forest interface is beautiful, too often the urban is too close to the forest. The nearest a tree should be to a house is far enough that if it falls over, the tree can't hit the house. when the tree grows to where it can hit the house... it needs to get cut. If they are closer... then when the forest burns, your house can't be saved. We have learned this lesson over and ovver... and never believed it.... Rebuilding in the same places, replanting the forest for it to burn again in 30 to 50 years.
I have a cat 279d3 which is the same hp as yours. I was curious, do you run the 2 speed in hi or low when moving crusher run like you are doing over the pipe?
42:08 watching you do that slope with a skid steer is neat to me Bc all I’ve ever used is a dozer and on a side note I’d say you’ve gotten pretty good with that skid steer
Can't believe all the spring water up there, I have a natural spring on my land but it's nothing compared to all the springs up there. Love seeing you cut through the woods making a road, defiantly a GR8T START Todd, it's so good to see how your business has grown, but even better to see your the same cool operator that you were from the beginning.
I am really appreciating your channel. I recently made a decision to buy a skid steer "new" and start a side business. Installing driveways, culverts, I also bought an extreme duty brush cutter with the loader. I travel the country for work, and I'm trying to stay home more. Potentially work at home full time, and I believe this is how I can do that. You're videos are truly educational for me and I am grateful. Thank you
I watch Chris religiously!!! I also watch Elite earthworks, dirt Boss, dirt perfect and others. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know each one of them
@@DigginLife21 I have been disabled for several years now but I did that kind of work before excavators came along back then if you had a backhoe you was big time but being disabled watching Chris and you guys makes me feel like I still have a purpose thank you

I totally agree. I love the cat 309 but the thumb sucks. The ld18 progressive link thumb would be perfect on that machine especially for clearing

This really is A "Great Start"! How steep of A degree will the skid steer stay on A slope OR would you rather not find out?
I’m not sure but I would say 30-35 degrees
Great start! And my pucker factor was high on this one. God bless!
Don't you mean 12% slope!!

You know what would really look good on the 309 and would help a lot with clearing…. An LD18 thumb and bucket combo from AMI. 😉🤣🤣
A DL21 would be better 🤣
@@DigginLife21 🤣🤣 I dunno why I didn’t think of that. That’s even better.

Looked like fun working that sandy side hill. Definitely a great start to the job.
You got that right!
I have a cat 279d3 which is the same hp as yours. I was curious, do you run the 2 speed in hi or low when moving crusher run like you are doing over the pipe?
You should only run in high travel speed when transporting or traveling, never while working under load. It can cause transmission problems.
Low
Would you prefer a 4 in 1 bucket to be toothed or smooth, I'm looking to get both just not sure which one to get toothed. Thanks
Toothed for 4 in 1 bucket.

How do you decide how deep to put the culvert pipes?
I try to end up with 6-12 inches of cover

Great video! I love the in cab view it’s my favorite! Do you run the excavator in John deer control or iso control?
Deere
It seems like a 6 way dozer blade "attachment" would be a useful thing on a skid steer.
For sure!!! I just can’t afford one yet
Thanks for the video Todd digging the video take care of yourself and family ❤️❤️👍
