Good video. How come you stopped the fabric under the rock? Maybe I missed it if you explained it. A lot of places around here are bad soil so we use the fabric to keep the rock from disappearing into the mud. That red clay looked like good base.
Mack!!! In what US states do you usually do your work? I texted this question to someone before and they said: inna semi-drunken state… Just ‘nuff 2 drive, but not ‘nuff 2 walk. SMH
I've been loading people up on free clay from my property for the last few weeks! Super clean clay! Wish I had a place to put it all to store, but it's not cost effective. I'm curious why you didn't go all the way with the road fabric? I know you were looking at experimenting but potentially risky.. I'm punching in a driveway next week. No clay, so fabric is a must! Can't wait to see the rest!
Mack, words of wisdom, I will be the first to admit I will not be perfect but I try. Around here we scrape down to hard clay, number 2 stone, around 3 inch diameter then 73's with fines. Should be fine as long as the non fabric clay stays dry. Keep up the great work and videos. Hope everyone is fine, stays safe.
What size stone are you using Todd? And have you thought about getting a land lever from EA ATTACHMENTS with all the drive way work you do I believe it would be beneficial for your company. May God bless you and your family and business.
It looks like you switched stone on the last load. The first load was more white or cream like granite, and the last load looked like basalt. Any reason for that?
@@DigginLife21how did it hold up? I just lost my driveway twice and decided to scrape back to start again into the clay, I actually thought of putting fabric down and can’t believe the first video I watched had someone doing it, seems like a good idea to me. I was thinking of using geo wool
I am fortunate enough to be able to hopefully purchase some land local to me about 82 acres, I walked some of it and flew a drone over the border of it and got a general idea of how much land it really is, now it seems like it’s a little swampy in a few areas and then it dries out, we did have a ton of rain the day that I went and looked at it, so I’m hoping that it will dry out during the summer months so I can get a closer look at it. It’s a ton of dense forest and over grown grass like the land your working on now, my goal is to do exactly what you are doing on it and just make an access road for now and then start clearing some trees to make some fields, but do I have to to add those culvert pipes along the road the whole way? Or can I just add a few?
Hopefully you don’t run into many challenges. It really depends on the grade and what the watershed looks like. In general a culvert every 100-200 feet is expected in my area but it is quite mountainous here
Why did you only put the fabric down at the start of the road and not the entire road?. I have goofed up gravel road with pot holes and I think I need to dig the whole thing out. Lay down fabric and then regravel
@DigginLife21 I watched it again. And sounds like you are doing an experiment to see the difference. Im pretty sure the fabric is not going to let you down .
Ya Done Good. Putting a new drive to my back 40, but I'm sure I have (from other projects) 14-16" of top. If you don't take it off the stone is gone in a yr
Awesome Video man! Only thing is that culvert pipe deep enough? How much material are you realistically adding to the surface of that? Just wondering 5-10 years down the road, if its traveled a lot of traffic that pipe will be done for
Question, have you ever thought about getting a roller or roller attachment for your skid steer and compacting the soil before you gravel? Makes for a much firmer and more stable base, especially with clay.
How did the road hold up when you did not use fabric? We have a long road that we are building in late spring but just thinking about using the fabric in the wettest areas.
Great video, came across you guys while looking for tips to do my own drive. Got a quick question, my drive is on a hill and my surface layer looks like what you have put down. It’s very compacted but i find it washes away in the rain in areas and on the flat section of my drive the fine stuff comes to the top in the rain and it’s gets messy. Would i be better using clean quarter inch gravel that doesn’t compact and stay loose? Id appreciate your opinion? Cheers
Hey Todd, great video. I was just wondering what size gravel you used and how its held up thus far with heavy traffic? Thanks brother, keep up the great work!
I'm a big fan of that size rock base for wet clay (RR ballast). You can always skim cover with something finer to doll it up.
Is that what you call it? RR Ballast? Is that what I could ask the quarry to deliver?
thanks!
Good video. How come you stopped the fabric under the rock? Maybe I missed it if you explained it.
A lot of places around here are bad soil so we use the fabric to keep the rock from disappearing into the mud. That red clay looked like good base.
I had same exact question. Why stop the fabric there? Seemed like it was right in the middle of the yard.
Mack!!!

Way better audio in the cab of equipment on this one. I could barely hear you in past vids when in the ex for sure.
Dude reminds me of buster Scruggs and I love it!!!
Thanks Todd, if anyone can do it you can. Another great series you have shared with us especially with a Mack attack. Stay safe brother
LOL, never seen anyone get so excited about clay! I get excited over BBQ (well smoking) Thanks for great vids!
How wide you usually go on dive ways
I prefer 12 ft but the average buget allows for 10 ft
Awesome ! START Todd ❤ thanks for sharing 😊

Looking good! How much time did you are you allowing for this job if I may ask?
I absolutely love your videos! Great work sir and thanks for the Step by step!
My pleasure!
Your the best brother!!!! Your channel is going to be huge!!!!
Thanks for making these videos man this is cool to watch!
Looking forward to this video series! Great video!
Man, your work always looks great! What kind of fabric are you laying down?
Between a Mack , Cat and Kubota, your work always shines. Keep it up Todd 🇺🇸

Mack trucks getting the job done!!
Nobody even talks about the work quality. Just the MACK LOL.
" MACK" that ole dog gonna haul the rock, as always God bless y'all and see yah on the next episode from Gaffney South Carolina viewer 🙏❤️💯..
Great Creation Road 101 Todd. always, Tommy🤠
Looks like the project is off to a great start. I like seeing the Mack put to work.
It sure is
Looking great Todd. That Mack seems to tailgate backward pretty good. Looking forward to seeing more of this project.
Thanks for the video Todd nicely done with the road, take care of yourself and family and be Blessed ❤️👍✅ All good ✅.
Love all your videos keep up the good work
Lookin good Todd. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Moss? Is that what that is? I've seen it and wondered. Thanks for that explanation.
You bet!
Good to see you can utilize that powerhouse The Mack to the rescue!
Great start Todd! That Mack will get some good use on this one.
You are fast becoming one of my favorite watches 😊
I remember this one! Love this project, very complex, but you were great with problem solving thru it all! Great content!
Thank you sir
My favorite videos. Thank you
You’re Mack daddy with those backwards dumping skills!
Im still perfecting it
Hey Todd, who doesn't love a good Big "Mack?" 😁😁👍

Mack trucks are nice to work with! 👍Wish I had one 😪
Looking good, that Mack sure has it's work cut out for it.
You make that look way too easy! 👍
Been looking forward to this one since the quote.
Me too!!! LOL
This is absolutely mesmerizing. I have no idea why it's so interesting, but you're a great storyteller so it works.
Thanks so much 🙏🏻
Would you ever consider getting a unimog FLU419? SEems like it does a ton of jobs decently well instead of having 5 pieces of equipment at a job site
It looks like you switched stone on the last load. The first load was more white or cream like granite, and the last load looked like basalt. Any reason for that?
Why did you only put the fabric down on the first part on the driveway but not the second part?
How did you bid this job? My estimate is around 8k. How far am I off?
Awesome work as always Tod! Can't wait to see the Mack in action!
Great videos brother! I would love to do what you do!
I live in Morganton NC I'm interested in learning a new job career
Why did you only lay fabric on part of the driveway? This is going to be an interesting project to see completed. Mack!
I was wondering the same thing
To see if the fabric makes a difference compared to just dirt.
The difference being how well the road holds up
Thanks for explaining it.
What kind of fabric is that
@@DigginLife21how did it hold up?

Looking great Todd Mack init good
Thanks 👍
How did your business started
Are you telling me that plastic drain pipe under 10 or 12 inches of rainy day clay is going to support a 30 or 40 thousand pound cement truck ?
Given time to dry it will
I am fortunate enough to be able to hopefully purchase some land local to me about 82 acres, I walked some of it and flew a drone over the border of it and got a general idea of how much land it really is, now it seems like it’s a little swampy in a few areas and then it dries out, we did have a ton of rain the day that I went and looked at it, so I’m hoping that it will dry out during the summer months so I can get a closer look at it. Personally, I liked it when you used start off the video's as "welcome to the Todd-cast". I think you should bring that back. :)
I don’t like fabric, would never do it
I have my own equipment and I wouldn’t want to watch out all the time grading for that underneath a little rock
It can definitely be an aggravation at times
Why did you only put the fabric down at the start of the road and not the entire road?. I have goofed up gravel road with pot holes and I think I need to dig the whole thing out. Lay down fabric and then regravel
You must've skipped through the part where I explained why

Nice to see backspreading over geotextile fabric. It’s how I learned and I’ve seen so many trucks on RUclips front spread over fabric.
Backfilling that trench with that rocky material will damage the pipe.the blanket should be clean
Awesome Video man! Only thing is that culvert pipe deep enough? How much material are you realistically adding to the surface of that? Just wondering 5-10 years down the road, if its traveled a lot of traffic that pipe will be done for
Hey Todd. I hope you've had a great day. You're a good egg Sir (sorry for the crummy Moneyball reference)
Question, have you ever thought about getting a roller or roller attachment for your skid steer and compacting the soil before you gravel? Makes for a much firmer and more stable base, especially with clay.
Hopefully one day I will own one
Not trying to be smart or anything but I never seen red clay clay is brown churt is red.
Do you live around Indiana or Kentucky?
Looks good bud, Glad your videos popped back into my feed. Commenting to keep them coming!
Todd do you always account for at least twelve inches of top soil over any drain you install?
When its possible I do
This dude is a master! Well done sir!
Many thanks 🙏🏻
Watched the intro video on @Digginlife Deeper then this one. Great content and watchable the entire way through. Can't wait for the next video!
This is a very helpful video to this new landowner MACK

HEY TODD GREAT WORK, ALMOST PROFESIONAL..YEP. HE HE
Great video - that's not the dump truck driver's first time at doing this!
finally one of you southern boys does it right.gotta have that fabric.
Are crooked driveways a thing in the south?
Is using a wheeled skid steer a big mistake? or does it matter?
Definitely not a mistake. Tracks are better on soft ground
Mack!! Awesome driveway project!

Getting ballast down with the MACK can’t beat that.
Todd why did you stop using fabric on the rest of the road
Mack!!
I think I started on episode 8. I had to go back and start from the beginning.
I hope it wasn’t too painful to start over 🤣
@@DigginLife21 Haha, naw. I just kind of spoiled it by knowing how it ended :)
Mack!!! Or was it suppose to be Mack-a-lack
What size rock did you use? 4in minus?
Thanks for your show , and no crazy music
Glad you enjoyed it!!! I try to do a good mix. Tough to keep everyone happy
MACK Daddy Todd !! Good work brother.
Mack, Looks like a fun project
Mack!! This is gonna be a fun one to follow.
Mack
Clay
Thanks!. Thay seems easy, when i look for gravel road tutorials they talk about 3 layers of different size gravel, honeycomb stabilizers, etc.
It all depends on the situation
MACK!!!
