Some characters have more to say about them then others, and this is only representive of the current build of HDR. Here's how every single character has changed from Smash Ultimate to HDR.

Pyra and mythra can hit cancel with down b, and pyra's strong hits are on her tippers, so she can combo into mythra's moves if she is close enough. Mythra's up b can also be single hit so if she does press b again, she can use an aerial

missing on yoshi's double jump cancel is crazy. i know all chars with a similar rising dj got the change but it makes yoshi way cooler
M2 Fair Hitbox also got reverted to the PM Variant, so it pops the enemy up instead of killing horizontally
Zelda can cancel attacks into the down-b phantom on hit, pretty huge change
Peach changing which weapon she uses for her forward smash with the control stick is already in Ultimate
How so?
@@teenageapple3788 By tilting the control stick while charging her Forward Smash. Holding it directly forwards uses her golf club, upwards uses her frying pan, and downwards uses her tennis racket.
Yeah I thought that as well, for such a large scale video tho there's bound to be mistakes
There are a few parts of the video where things like this are said for example Robin already has a meter for all of the spells and Levin sword
Yeah there were a lot of things (throughout the entire video) that made me wonder if he even played Ultimate.
One that really stuck out was Ryu, Ken and Terry being able to cancel their moves on hit, and thinking that mechanic was added in HDR.
Oh and grabbing items on the ground with wavedash (because of the airdodge) and calling it "aerial glide tossing".
I'd take at least half the things in this video with a grain of salt.
Was still fun to see the different animations and stuff though.
Honestly I don’t get why they changed ness’s magnet from ultimate. It’s honestly one of the most interesting moves in the game
to put it simply, it ended up being useless in HDR's engine. It was also changed a long time ago so there's always an opportunity to redesign the move

As someone who played Ness in PM and now in Ultimate, Ult magnet makes Ness his best incarnation without a doubt. Even if that’s just cause it made him the most fun. I always thought it would be interesting if it could be jump-cancelled into a wave dash. But maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.
I am a ness main and ness SUCKS. Hopefully he will get worked on soon :)

So i intend this entirely as constructive criticism and not to be rude, but it felt like there was constant misinformation. Either entire new mechanics were missed on characters or misinformation was stated on moves. One example is that banjo has 5 grounded feathers but he has one aerial feather that charges. Another thing is that Aegis' hitswap mechanic was missed entirely along with incin's multiple side b variants along with hitfalling weren't mentioned. It felt like the information was all over the place and missed out on the things that made characters interesting

To give some information, there arent (to my knowledge) any plans to add newcomers to the mod, mainly because Ultimate has so many characters as is, and adding more would make balancing potentially even harder than it currently is.
Doing things like making Echos more unique is pretty much the same thing anyway if you ask me. This mod is really cool!
I hope they at least consider dipping their toes into making new echo fighters, so they don't have to deal with too much change. Considering they're willing in this mod to have every echo fighter receive tangible changes, I think it would be a great middle ground. They could potentially add Shadow, Black Shadow, Black Knight (lol at all these similar names), Funky Kong, and a few more I'm sure, and while they may not demonstrate the best potential those characters could possibly have in a fighting game, they'll still be different enough to make you go "yep, these guys feel like their character and deserve their half-placemement on the roster".

I honestly don't think that's the main reason, I think the feasibility of adding new characters to modded ultimate without replacing existing ones is very hard
Pyra/Mythra are hella different. Mythra's side B is a new move with a sweetspot. Her up B can be cancelled into any arial. Also they can instant swap on hit, so you can combo between the two characters in between hits.

He's missed quite a few changes on a few characters.... understandable it's a massive roster

It's a shame to know that this can never become a game with a decent sized competitive scene thanks to Nintendo.
Incineroar had Rivals hit falling, which you missed entirely.

I don’t know if this is possible or if the HDR team will do this at all, but I really wish the hit/launch effects weren’t removed. I’m not discrediting the amount of work the HDR team has done, but the lack of hit/launch effects makes the attacks feel like there’s little power behind them.
It's a design decision, it's to clean up the image. It only looks weird because you've been playing Ultimate a lot (probably). You get used to it very fast, just like we all got used to Ultimate's effects and different knockback really fast. A lot of effects in HDR have been scaled back to make the presentation a bit more clean.
@@beardalaxy I guess it’s also cause the only 2 smash games I’ve played are Smash 3ds and Ultimate, the 2 games that increased those effects. The lack of effects look better in Melee than they do in Ultimate cause something about it in HDR just looks a little unfinished.
@elijahwilliams9723 to me it makes smash ultimate feel very smooth and clean because theres less lag. Imagine if rocket league had a similar effect as smash ultimate when the ball is hit, the game would feel more clunky

That is _not_ a Peach float. Peach can't move around in all directions. She can only hover at a static altitude. This is beyond.
Anyway I'm pretty glad Dark Samus can fly around. I remember seeing a Brawl mod that did the same thing. It was such a sick moveset.

I didn’t know to much about HDR, but I’ve always been interested in it. This video definitely is a great resource of a lot of the changes, great job!

I actually really like this concept for Robin in this game. Personally, I would like to change Robin's run animation to how he/she moves across the map in Awakening and take the book and tome out of their hands.

Great video. I don't have access to HDR but I'm interested in all the changes, and I've been trying to find this exact video for a while - there's surprisingly no concise content about HDR character changes on RUclips, and this video was really well executed and edited.

Haven’t finished the video yet, but this is great so far! I have been trying to get people in my local Ultimate tournament scene into HDR, and I think this will be a great tool to help with that transition. I even wrote out a 40-page Google Doc that goes over all the major changes from Ult to HDR for people to read that are curious, or just for a general reference. I’ll be sharing this video for sure, since it’s more digestible. Great video!

Lot of the changes that i see im not super fond of honestly in Hdr but my mains sonic captain falcon and dk have great changes but ganondorf why would u get rid of the uptilt and warlock punch attack those are iconic. They shouod of just made ganons side special not make him go into free fall and upgrade his speed and air speed thats it.

Ik nobody cares but the miis did not just get minor adjustments, moves like warrior wave and shock spell are completely new and Gunner fair, bair, and dair can all be charged for a stronger hit, bigger hitboxes, and to blast yourself in the opposite direction (and you also have a hitbox on you during this)

For a 5'6 109lbs 17yr old, he can definitely tank punches. Especially Considering he fought Mike Tyson and a Donkey Kong.

i kinda dont like some of the changes. i know new moves might not have the best animations, but seeing chars like pikachu and DDD just get a standard kick back air, it looks pretty bad, especially when the ultimate animations are great. there is a balance between what to change and again i'm not expecting insanely polished animations from a fan mod
They wanted to make ultimate into melee, shitty animations and lack of hit effects included
@@rosestrohm7986 theyre adding mechanics from other smash games, not just melee. Hell even incineroar has hitfalling from rivals of aether. Marth just got smash 4 jab back

You are the top of top youtubers when it comes to smash content. Like at least top 3. Thanks for an hour of HDR content, just got into the game and I think its my favorite version of smash.
Glad to see that hdr isn't totally married to the idea of making every character work like melee. Its not like melee players are even gonna switch to p+, let alone hdr, so you might as well try something new. One of my only gripes with pm/p+ is that it tries to be like melee to a fault, porting some of melee's really dumb stuff that shouldn't be there like peach dsmash or the entirety of puff
It's not that P+ devs want to cater to melee heads, it's that (at least in the early days of 2015ish) the dev team WAS the melee heads. HDR feels like an exciting middle ground of all sorts of ideas across the series. stuff like smash 4 marth jab is in and it is SICK.
As long as it opens more combo opportunities then I'm ok with melee rendition of characters semi returning I just wish meta knight had more range again

Idk why everyone anyways wants to change links moveset, links moveset like IS the reason i ever turn on smash over another platform fighter anymore. I like heavy characters, swordies, trap characters, and boomarang is my favorite move like ever. And smash is the only place i can seem to find even half of those traits on one character.

Hello. I think that your video is good but the green screen format does not mesh well with showing off fighting game moves because every time you slide on screen my attention is taken away from the thing you are trying to show me.

They need to give Zelda PM Din's Fire. Without a hitbox before detonation, the HDR Din's is a huge nerf. Making detonation time-based and taking control away from a player is never an improvement. Every HDR Zelda video I've watched, the opponent is playing around the Din's because the timing is so predictable.

Bit of a word salad when mentioning Sephiroth's grounded up special - he could already move and change the lengths on the ground but going from the ground to the air is certainly a significant change but took a few watches on my end to understand what you meant. Would be a neat change if he could cancel the startup with shield imo

I don't like how there's no effects when you hit your opponent, and also the way players get launched doesn't look right
I feel like this was done to feel like Melee, but I think having the way Ultimate looks with the effects and the way players get launched should be there bc there's more ways to feel like Melee if that's what they want
the knockback changes were made to make comboing more consistent, every smash game before ultimate had slower knockback.
HDR Mac sounds so boring to me… I get what they were trying to do by making a character not suck but they are also taking away what made him unique. People always go in the most basic direction of making his air game stronger like if it’s the only way to make him better where I feel like nobody has tried to make his ground game better by experimenting and figuring out what it needs.

I fight the best HDR mac multiple times a week and this character does NOT suck. He is awesome. His ground game is so insanely better because of the engine allowing him to turn around during initial dash. that alone makes him excellent, but that's ignoring the plethora of other universal movement mechanics. He's even still got trample and he's got stuff like a frame 1 jab (VERY STRONG IN THIS GAME) and one of the best shield pressure games in the cast. his combos are great, his finishers kill you mega dead, and his recovery is actually about average now. If you let him get in on you, you've already fucked up.
Mac is actually really good now im sorry if this sounds rude, but some of you people need to learn that unique characters who suck is not a good way to design characters.
@@hassoncarmon5779 He's also getting an insane grab game now. Also, on the topic of his aerials. They're actually still not great on their own. They shine when you use them to get your opponent back to the ground so you're in your ideal position again.

The gunner changes are insane actually. That down air is so so much better, the missile is a bit slow imo, but might work. The nade angle change is way better than most may think, that does so, sooooo much for gunner, and then they made vortex just insane, it looks fuckin absurdly busted, and it already kinda was to begin with tbh
But did hdr fix the pitboxes?
It's also worth noting that the "slow down a tilt" mechanic does exist before. In P:M you could hold Wario's ftilt and he'd wind it up for longer. It wasn't stronger, but the delayed hit was intended to fake opponents out. Wario used to have a lot of that. Remember how his dash grab would fake charge?

Don't tell me Pichu's discharge state is based of Super Smash Flash 2 where if it takes 50% or more in a single stock, Pichu goes into its Discharge state giving stronger special moves and Forward Smash.
