- In the first part of this vlog, I tried out the new Citilink Dining Experiences from Jakarta to Bali which include fine dining in the sky, airport meet and assistance, fast track, extra leg room seat and arrival assistance. The Citilink Dining Experiences package cost 550,000 IDR ($40).
From Bali, I visited the Garuda First Class lounge before flying to Tokyo Narita in Garuda Indonesia First Class onboard B777-300/ER. I was one of only two passengers in Garuda First Class. I was treated like royalty with the 5 star cabin crew of Garuda. But you have to watch my final verdict to see what I've thought of Garuda First Class!

There were literally more crew than passenger in First Class so I received great attention and service. I strongly believe if you fly Garuda First Class, you will also be treated like royalty!

I've been traveling by using garuda Indonesia before.
And trust me. Despite of the price, their service is damn top notch (even it just an economic class).
I remember they day when I was fall asleep. Then, when I woke up, I've seen a pack of rice and it was written on the top
"Have a good rest. You worked hard!"
Asked the left side of me, he told me that it was given from the flight attendant when I was fall asleep.
After that. I won't care about the pricing anymore.

Based on my experience with Garuda Indonesia, they are incredible. I haven't flown on their first class or business class, but their economy class is really nice. The cabin crew are very friendly and helpful and the food is good. In the early 2000's, Garuda Indonesia went through a rough period, but in 2014, they changed their service and logo to make it one of the world's best airlines and long and behold, Garuda is one of the top airlines in the world. I love Garuda and I can't wait to see them again when I come back to Indonesia.
Please note to all those who said Sam was paid to do these reviews. Sam said "based on popular demand" not "Garuda has invited me." that mean he paid with his OWN money and miles to do this review.
I revisited this video in 2021, 2022, and recently 2024. This really made me want to go back to where Garuda used to be. Now they have to retire their first class service and halve their fleet, and they still haven’t ordered new airplanes in a while.

Been traveling around the world, Indonesian flights might be not the best services in the world but they are the most FRIENDLY staffs in the world. Nothing else can beat!
Indonesia people are polite and friendly to their guest, it is their culture, you can see it in their home design, the guest room is the main part of the building, to guest their visitor

Its has nothing to do with the currency value, since I am in Indonesia and the flight tickets are so expensive comparing to the usually prices elsewhere.
A flight from Surabaya to Jakarta round trip will cost around 1.3 million rupiah with that price I can fly from France to Spain.
If the price is expensive and the services are very good, guess none will complain, which is not the case in Indonesia.
I just randomly googled some domestic flight in Indonesia and found it rather on the cheap side compare to what I’m familiar in US and China
My mom is Indonesian and i've been to bali and Indonesia once and its so breathtaking and fun to surf there. I miss bali and Indonesia so much! love from Australia 💕

Garuda Indoneisa cabin crew still one of the best in my opinion. I also treated like a royal when i took this first class from Jakarta to London last year! I strongly agree with sam that garuda japanese menu can impove better (i also had that menu on business class and it feels less japanese). I also agree that the slippers are amazing!!

Went to Bali once, and I must say, Indonesian people are wonderful! The people at the market, hotel and even people we crossed on the road were so kind and eager to help! Would totally love to visit again
Not to ruin the experience, but Bali is like an autonomous region of Indonesia. Everything there is so nice. Try visit Jakarta, you'll know what I'm talking ahout.

I once flew Garuda first class from London to Cairns (with three stops along the way) and friends were horrified that I'd chosen Garuda. At that time I'd not even heard of them but, I have to say that they were absolutely amazing and they couldn't have beem more attentive or helpful. I'd fly with them again any time.

they really are 5 star. I flew with them in business class on an A330, flying from Singapore to Jakarta, even on such short sector, I received what is actually the best service i ever received. Wasn't filming or anything, just normal passenger, and really was the best service ever! And I flew a lot of airlines in Business, including ANA, Eva, Malaysia, Etihad, Swiss, Lufthansa, United, Air Canada, etc.. etc... But never received such a treatment. My second best experience being EVa air.

Great video as usual, Sam.... I live in Jakarta, and was happy to see your upload, but also sad to not get the chance to meet you! You mentioned the high cost of domestic flights: as you may know, this is a recent development, stemming from the fact that the two main airline "groups" (cartels) have got together to agree a plan to maintain higher prices. Until last year, domestic flights were great value throughout the archipelago, thanks to the pressure from competition. Air Asia is not controlled by either cartel, so their prices remain reasonable - but of course Air Asia doesn't fly to many Indonesian destinations. Here's hoping that things change soon.......
I think there is overcapacity at artificially maintained prices. But again if the prices are too low and all airlines running high losses, the jobs may be jeopardised too. It is hard to find a balance.
I propose foreign airlines be allowed to operate in Indonesia and may permitted to reach all provinces. This is expected to reduce price competition.

those people in the first class area seem so respectful. That lady was actually kneeling...I don't think you would see that anywhere else in the world. Also I don't think flight attendants on any other carrier would every actually take someones shoes in their hands and store it for you. Incredible service

Lived in Indonesia for many years. They treat all people like that. Their hospitality anywhere there is outstanding. Once you go to another country you will start missing it
Flew Garuda coach on my way to Indonesia because of a lot of complications getting here for Peace Corps service, oh my it was wonderful. Just brilliant service, Javanese hospitality all the way. On my way home and then back again, I missed Garuda. Wonderful airline.
