  • We will be pulling the rear axle shaft assembly off, having the bearing replaced and put it all back together. (will not be pressing in or removing the bearing in this video, a machine shop did it)

I would recommend ordering NSK bearing or atleast original toyota oem.

There are 2 bolt holes in the drum...take long bolts , turn them in and the drum is removed easier. The long bolts are used to hold the drum like handles.

Sure would be nice to know exactly how the machine shop does the removal and installation of the bearings

If a machine shop is pushing the bearings in along wth the ABS wheel, make sure the ABS wheel is measured first , the distance to the hub housing. Otherwise, the axle housing seal will leak

And bty, sometimes it's cheaper to buy the entire axle assembly rather than having a garage do it. You can buy a Dorman aftermarket with bearing's and abs ring installed

Used to be “Be Kind - Rewind.” for VHS tape.
With DIY repairs, it should be “Be Kind - Speed Up!” Time lapses are your friend.

Is there any reason to not do the majority of the brake system disassembly/reassembly with the axle installed in the truck? Seemed to spend a lot of time chasing the assembly around while taking out and putting back in the brake parts. I'm an amateur so I'm probably just missing something here.

I’m wondering the same thing. It was secure on the truck and a lot easier to work on and not rolling around on the floor.

Did this end up leaking again? I couldn't see it clearly, but it looked like maybe the machine shop pressed the ABS tone ring a little too far onto the axle.

yea its the worst part. also pay like $50 or so I dont remember. you can do it yourself but when you spend couple hours and risk damaging bearings. Its not worth doing it ourself.
