This video, the editing, and your workmanship (attention to cleanliness and detail) are top shelf! 🍻 💪 Thank you for putting this together. 2005 Toyota 4Runner with ALL of the same issues. LR axle seal puking onto parking brake shoes and drums. BEarings howling, Metal debris inside rear axle housing that will need special attention. To the masses, Dorman makes a complete axle assembly with bearings and backing plate already assembled and ready to bolt in. For 2003-2008 4Runners it's PN# 926-141 and 926-142. This will save folks from having to invest in a press and special adapter tools. Also makes the job more accessible for DIY folks less experienced in car repair. LIKE if this comment helped you (otherwise I'm keeping to myself in the future). 👍 ✌
Thank you for going through each step and showing each part I really appreciate it. Lots of videos seem to leave out quite a bit of information by simply not showing each part.
Snap on makes two tools that make Toyota e brake shoes easy to service! Not gonna find it at Hobo Freight 😂 ****Anyone doing this buy the NSK Japanese bearings from rock auto. There are ALOT of counterfeit KOYO bearings out there. Honestly they don’t allow most companies to sell their stuff. NSK is a quality Japanese bearing company Toyota/Lexus contract with. No need to spend $250 per side. Great video never the less!
You make it look so easy. Very helpful, well-produced and explained. Thank you. Does grabbing the wheel and trying to rock it work to diagnose a wheel bearing with this setup?
Thank you for support brotha!! And yes if you jack up the wheel and then grab the wheel and try to rock it you should feel if there's an excessive play.
@@tronixster Thank you I wasn't sure if that would work. I have a whirring/humming sound on my 2WD...hopefully if it's a bearing it's on the front wheels!
Fantastic, Paul! Excellent presentation with little wasted time! No filler video and corny music! I will follow exactly your sequence. I didn't realize all the extra needed tools. Maybe get a local machine shop to press on and off the bearing. Thanks much!
Very nice, thank you for all the detail! A lot of work, but if you go to dealer, a lot of $$. Even buying all the tools and a press you still come out ahead unless you screw something up.
@@chadspinalbosd007 I don’t have the press tools or know anyone who has them. There was another shop that could have done it cheaper, but they needed to keep it for a week so car rental would have negated the savings. The dealership did it 4 hours and fed me a free breakfast.
FYI: it is C-clip not C clamp. Good video. You can cut the race with a dremel tool and use a chisel to split the race. Be careful not to score the shaft. A slight nick is OK.
Gonna have to do this on my land cruiser as proactive maint, it's 170k miles.... quite similar to your vid here, will need to get that special tube setup or weld one myself....
I always put the park brakes shoes back on the backing plate before pressing the bearing plate back on, they’re a pain in the azz to install afterwords
Just a little advice as I did not see you mention it in this video... There is a small metal retainer ring above the metal ring on top of the bearing make sure to remove before trying to press the bearing out or you will ruin your tools and bent bolts. ✌️💪👌👍🙏
Nice video. I'm getting a noise from the rear that I'm not 100 percent sure is the pinion bearing or wheel bearings. Figure might as well just change them all lol
Some things I realized after doing this job to make it much easier. 1.) Get the Toyota parking break tool, I got mine from the National Tool Warehouse. This tool makes taking apart your parking break off and re putting it back on super easy!! 2.) Buy a new axle clip, the dealer sold it for $4 3.) If you live in a place where the roads are salted go ahead buy new bolts that cinnect the axle shaft to the axle housing. Will prevent break off in the future. 4.) Buy a new abs bolt $3 dollars at the dealer. 5.) Buy your wheelbearing from Rock Auto as its OE, which its better than the KOYO OEM for $78 with shipping. This wheelbearing from Rock Auto is the same one used in the factory when built. Worked gred and saved me $100s 5. Rent the tools to separate the wheelbearing and repress it from auto zone. I bought a tool from amazon to remove the last peice of the bearing that was stuck on the axle shaft and it destroyed my Break Drum deflector, where the lugnuts are held. This made me had to get a new wheelbearing because it wouldnt turn with this damage. Rock Auto returned the bearing. The new drum reflector with the gasket was about $35, so trust me rent the tools from autozone. 6. Follow all the steps on this video and you can have this done in 3 hour max. I would had got it done in an hour or two if i had the emergency break tool and rented the tool from autozone. This job was not hard at all and i saved $800 from doing it myself rather than the dealer.
If I can find a good set of axle/bearing assemblies at the self serve yard, that will solve my problem. Looks like I will have to open the pumpkin and inspect for debris.
You Forgot to Check / or add back Lost "Gear Oil" in the AXEL Removal Process. You do Not want to have your Differential and wheel bearings all ruined. !
This is the best video I’ve seen on Toyota rear bearing replacement. Thanks!

Thanks to your video I save my self and the shop a lot of time wasted and avoid an angry customer 🎉❤

Yeesh that’s a lot of work! I wouldn’t be able to do this myself. Great video.
Bring it to my place and I’ll do it for the right price 😁

Yeah I ended up biting the bullet and going to the dealer for my Tacoma. $1200 to replace one rear bearing.
Really hard to mess this up lol, its not that hard and eventually the other ones will ho bad

Great video, great lighting I know it will help me out when I do mine.
Thank you for such an amazing and positive comment. Blessings on getting yours done.
What a great video. Looks like I'll be bringing this job to someone to do.
I’m glad you found this video helpful and good luck
Wow thank you got the video! Very detailed. I have 2010 4runner and as it seems I’ll probably buy another so this is a great how to. 👌🙏🏻
Greetings from a brother in Christ.
Praise God you found this video helpful and blessing on the fix.
Really good video my friend. I love it

Great video my friend! 🙌 very helpful! Thank you!
Praise God and good luck if you’re planning to do the same 😁👍
I'm doing one right now on 😊thx for the video
That's awesome man. Blessings on getting this done.
Great video. Very well explained, thanks! Can you share the size bolts you used on the bearing separator tool?
Do they sell the bearing assembly that would avoid using a press? Like the fronts
You have been very helpful thank you

I need help to find the wacher you install before the bearing retainer where can i found that one.??? Thanks
Great video!! Thx for sharing. Just wondering...What kind of grease did you use? Moly Lithium?
*excellent job, thank you* ❤ 🙏

I’m trying to plan ahead!
Great video!

Great and detailed video. Can you add the info on the wheel bearing tool from auto zone at time stamp 10:40
Never mind found it at the end of the video
Super helpfull. Respect
What’s the piece that the red plate is on top of
I always put the park brakes shoes back on the backing plate before pressing the bearing plate back on, they’re a pain in the azz to install afterwords
What is that brake bleeder you used?
I bought one from Auto Zone a while back ago. I believe you can find one on Amazon.

You have a press?
Hey, I wanna do the same on my car. Do you have the part number of all the parts you used.
I like your styrofoam floor pad. Good idea!
Great video. I plan on doing this for my 2004 4Runner. Would a 12 ton press work?
I also want to know…
Get the 20 ton press!
I have the 12 Ton and it’s pretty useless. The 12 Ton press is fine if you’re working on motorcycles.
Excellent mate

What was the mileage on your Toyota when you did this?
It had around $180k miles so it was time
I thought the axel is captured within the rear differential by a c-clip or similar. Maybe it's different on a Toyota.
I have a 1970 Chevy C20 that has C-clips.
Yes, toyota truck axles are pressed on to the wheel bearing and bolt to the axle housing. US domestics use the C clips in the 3rd member.
Yeah Toyota’s are different
No abs gear?
I just had this done on my 2005 tundra 270k did both bearings for $760

u forgot to wear safety squints when working with a press!
Lmao
why dealers are called stealerships!
