I can't help but think this is a reference to the "Sir Bearington" copy pasta from ages ago. Does that mean I'm going to build him with the Noble background? Absolutely.
Didn't know this - mainly because I never played that edition - but Wilson is part of BG2 Enhanced Edition. And now looking at the 'Sir Bearington' story, I can definitely tell that Wilson was likely inspired by 'Sir Bearington' (timeline would also line up, with Bearington appearing in '10/'11, and BG2 EE coming out in '13)
If I’m not mistaken, ward stacks. So if you wanted to target Wilson while he has the Giant’s amulet on, you’ll need to pay the cost of the spell+4 to get past Giant’s Amulet+2 to bypass Wilson’s ward. You’d have to pay X+6 where X is the spell’s cost just to take out a 2 drop bear with a 1 drop artifact.
@@insipidbore4320 The Short version is: High Level Druid awakened their bear as a cohort. Said bear began leveling in rogue. I run Sir Bearington as a Guild Artisan, but I've also thrown almost every other legal background (Haunted One doesn't really do anything) into the 98. As a proper spy, Sir Bearington could disguise himself as pretty much anything he wants, and as any self-respecting noble would know, *"you've got to have money."*
I want to make a "modular" Wilson deck. 40 base cards for Wilson. And 5 decks of 60 to switch his Identity (One of each coloured background). Definitely using Raised by giants for mono green!! Might make it a 50/50 split for the decks...
But then your staying in mono green. If you pick noble heritage you can have two colors, noble heritage can Pump up Wilson for much cheaper and plus, he's a bear noble!
I kind of like the idea of using the "Cultist of the Absolute" background and going with a sort of Golgari Bear-Tribal/Voltron/Reanimate hybrid approach, reanimating bears for Ayula to see and buff Wilson just sounds like a fun time. The question is if you can meaningfully cram that into the 98.
Ward can be straight hard countered if you can make your spells unable to be countered so I think cards like U/W Taigam and Lier can swing playing more targeted removal because they'll just slip right through Ward which is a really cool nteraction that adds some unintended value to certain commanders which I just think is neat.
We definitely need more bears, Ayula needs more support. I just wish this bear was better, but at least it's not vanilla so it's still replacing one of the garbage vanilla's in my deck.

Haha that's immediately what I thought of. I wouldn't be surprised if a WOTC employee was inspired.

Yep, they stack. I've equiped multipul copies of Leather Armor on single creatures in Arena and each 'Ward 1' triggered seperatly.
You mean Winged Boots, not Giant’s Amulet right?
@@TraeKryzer correct
If you play this commander, but dont choose the blue copy background, then you have missed quite the reference
Wait what's the reference

are you guys talking about the lore for this set or what? I'm so lost
The power of bear scape grows!

@@williamriven Same just wanted to start with Yogi bear wilson
Wilson + raised by giants = big bear
Conclusion your face is getting gnawed off

hell yeah. we're making secret commanders next week and this was exactly my idea for my secret deck

Can't wait until we get up to 7 cards in the command zone so I can know I always have at least 7 good cards in my opener.
It’s a route similar to the one I was considering but more sacrifice matters theme
appreciate how fast you get these out, really looking forward to the warhammer spoilers
Now Graham has a competitive Bear Force One.
He has realized the legend and gone beyond the powers of a mere grizzly bear, for he is a super grizzly bear!

More bears is always good. Yes.
$1.10 gets you my Commander: Streets of New Capenna printing. Hopefully this latest Commander Legends set cements budget status!
no mention of forebear's blade for this bear warrior? I mean its 4 bears
if Wilson is raised by giants... you have a 10/10 Bear Giant, who can't be countered, ward 2, trample reach, vigilance... well well
raised by giants background makes this commander scary
Alpha’s authority is the best enchantment that would protect him and works perfectly flavour wise
Ayula welcomes her new loyal subject.
We definitely need more bears, Ayula needs more support. I just wish this bear was better, but at least it's not vanilla so it's still replacing one of the garbage vanilla's in my deck.
You wish this bear was better??? Wilson is hands down the best bear in the 99 of a bear tribal deck.
@@wavesofbabies to be fair thats not saying much
I am willing to bet that the temporary name for this card was "Sir Bearington".
Wilson is actually a companion in Baldur's Gate 2 Enhanced Edition. He has been around for almost 9 years.
Bear force one let's goooo!!!
*YES*
I saw this bear an instantly knew it's power. I am 100% going to build this if I can get my hands on one.
*Cries in Ayula*
Wilson is loaded to BEAR with keywords.
Wilson is the brains and Zangief is the muscle
Just made a casual white green one and really liking this bear
Wilson, raised by giants, collossification, and start sniping people out 😆
Okay we need graham to make another bear force one now (bear force two?)
Could you do a quick tech on Raphael, Fiendish Savior?
2nd Best tribal in Magic, only next to Sliver just got even stronger!! Nerf the tribe Wizards!
I need this card in my life yesterday.
Just made a Wilson + Flaming fist for the mono white equipment support
4:50
You said *beary* aggressive didn't you?
This is why I love this game. Cards feel so unique
I for one miss the vanilla bear 🐻
Since Wilson is a refined grizzly shouldn’t he be a Bear Noble not a Bear Warrior?
Are you sure the Ward 4 does not stack with the Ward 2? Each triggering separately then
2 instances of ward with winged boots ain't bad.
Do ward abilities stack? So ward 2 activates and then ward 4?
do the counters get removed when you reconfigure the artifact lion sash?
I've had an Ayula deck for a while, should I now switch her out or keep Wilson in the 99?
i dont see this commander taking ayulas spot in bear tribal but looks very fun nonetheless
Considering Wilson + Master Chef instead of Ayula as my bear commander.
Don't tell anyone, but I am a 2/2 beer warrior, too
He’s sniffing a jar of marmalade
My bear deck is happy
First? Hey Mitch!! 😁
Hi!!!
YES MORE BEARS FOR THE BEAR DECK
It's a great card for Kathril and Rayami.
Step 1: build Wilson as a commander
Step 2: choose Raised by Giants as a background
Step 3: profit 😎
I named my son after this commander!
Best legendary ever printed.
reach?! how does a bear kill flyers?
Have you seen how fast some bears can climb up trees?
@@TehSeksyManz fair enough... you won this one
When in doubt, pinkie out
WILSON!!!
:0 Bear! 🐻
Raised by Giants anyone? 10/10 vigilance reach trample ward 2 for 2 mana?
8 mana*
Gruul?
Wilsoooooooooooon 🏐
Bear bear bear bear
......so green white.....flaming fist background
That is exactly what I was thinking
