How To Build a Deck: How To Install Simpson HUC210-3Z Hanger

Installing a Simpson HUC210-3Z hanger is an essential step in framing a deck with a 1x6 boarder. Colorado Custom Covers and Decks recommends following these steps to ensure proper installation.
First, measure the joist and get the average joist width. This will help determine the appropriate measurement needed. Once you have determined the correct size, pull the measurement from the top of the ledger to the bottom of the hanger. This will determine where to nail the hanger.
Next, line the inside of the flange up to the outside of the ledger. Once you have lined it up properly, nail one nail into the hanger to secure it in place. Then, plumb the side to ensure it is level and nail off the remaining holes. This is an important step to ensure your deck is structurally sound and safe.
After one side is nailed and plumb, level the bottom of the hanger and nail the bottom hole on the opposite side. This will ensure that the hanger is securely attached to the ledger. Finally, pull a measurement at the bottom of the hanger and add 1/16" - 1/8" to the top of the hanger. This will allow for the joist to slide in easily.
By following these steps, you can be confident that your HUC210-3Z hanger is installed correctly and your deck is safely framed.
