Hopefully that gas water heater in the bathroom is not working any more..that's realy dangerous. Here in Portugal there used to be many like that, but it's been made illegal several years ago. It's funny to see how different things are even between european countries. I've remodeled an old 1960's house and the wiring was terrible..everything running on 1mm2 cable, on just one circuit without any earth.. The "only safety feature" is that we run much lower amps to the houses here..most people have the basic tariff which limits the available power to 15amps..limiting the possibility of those wires melting..
Take note you young lads fresh out of college there are thousands of properties still wired like this all over the UK. They look modern on the outside new windows roof plumbing etc but 1950`s electrical systems
acespark1 You see this a lot if you are house hunting, particularly here in London. Any old house that has been "recently renovated" needs very careful attention- many amateur "property developers" think nothing of installing new kitchens, bathrooms and flooring throughout without ever bothering to check the wiring. I have seen countless properties that look fantastic, only to find that most of the new kit needs to be ripped out to get to the sixty year old wiring beneath and replace it. There are tens of thousands of houses still out there with ancient four way Bakelite Wylex boards from the 1940's still powering the entire house.
I did a two year stint of lived in rewires, got two weeks for the average house, included plastering up all chases, used to take 8 working days on average, got in such an easy routine that I quite liked doing them
Pendant light fittings are designed to be that way & are used all over the world. The only electrical device in the shower is the shower unit itself... again nothing unusual in that, the heater that was in the bathroom was powered from outside the room using an extension lead & isn't normal.
British Electrical standards are one of the best. I’ve worked in many countries and can tell you it’s better than the US NEC and Australia’s AS/NZS. What you’ve seen here is the bottom of the barrel
Farmer Dave ceiling fixtures are designed to support a 5kg load, they are used all over the planet. Obviously heavier fittings use a chains onto a hooked rose. As previously mentioned the U.K. has some of the strictest regulations and safest standards in the world.
Price seems fair. Be interesting to know what you expect materials / time split to be. I would guess something like £700 and 7 days ? And you would expect the 2 of you can do it in less than 7 but have to price that as there will surely be some challenges given the way that place looks to have been built and maintained.
NO!!! I don't think so! 😂 It's soooo old, this is first time I've seen entire wiring in this such state! I am amazed how that house has not burned down, with all that power hungry storage heater heating! 😱😬
Ali Salih Yes you are so right. I was shocked for a second that this is normal in the US. I mean I know that it is a bit different. But damn that’s dangerous 😂
It both is & isn't normal. Modern installs are much better (or should be!), but older ones have tended to be adapted over the years hence why there's so many fuse boards. Up until 2005 it was common for householders and unqualified persons to have a go at wiring, but in 2005 it came under the building regulations so most electrical works now require a sign off from a registered electrician.
@@jeanhomuth6376 Not sure if that was typo or something, we are actually based in the UK. I was actually shocked and amazed as more and more he show around the house, the more dangerous it get! 😬

@@pault4793 I worked commercial for many years, admittedly mostly cards in though, but even self employed it was hourly rate, i worked on stadiums, schools, hospitals, offices etc which was hourly rate, even worked at the bae systems aswell which was hourly rate, my mate works on the power plants which is hourly rate, i know lads on the rigs which is hourly rate, ive very rarely come across electricians who do price work, dont get me wrong its good that you've managed to work price all the time but from my experience and from people I know price work is rare. I was simply pointing out that domestics can earn good money and I have no doubt these youtubers do pretty well, domestics are not something I would like to go into myself (foreigners are enough)
Storage heaters have dp switches on the off peak supply, do they not? Wired some recently. Fused spurs arent meant for sustained high power tasks like storage heating, dp switches are better suited. Also some storage heaters have 3.6kw elements. Also why storage heaters and gas?!
I was thinking why storage heaters when there is a gas boiler. With the switched fused spurs for double pole switches I agree I've seen plenty spurs with the fuse carrier welded in and over heat marks on the back because of the thermal effects of the load current on 2.6 and 3kw Storage heaters
He should at least be offered a low cost simple board change with one plug until can spend more and run things on extension lead as that installation will fail shortly leaving completely cut off.
Jane South Running everything on extension leads is a recipe for disaster. If the homeowner doesn't trip and break their neck in the first week, they will end up burning the house down through overloading.

Great video, possibly don't go down the road of commenting/showing a customers hygiene habits.. Remember they are paying you. 👍
agreed.
I 3rd that.
They may even see this video. 😂
Yeah I meant to edit this bit out 🤭
Hmmm Laptop on the bed - nice touch
I'd be putting heat and Co combined detectors in the rooms with gas heaters
Hi nick. Whose boards are you using to get 19 rcbo’s in that price ??
It'll be Fusebox i would imagine for that price
Al Hughes that would be my guess
Or lewden control gear .
3 core for switch... Not feed the switch?
I did think of that too but thinking about it, doing it with 3c & e for switch wire would be better wouldn't it?
Nice vid think that price is a little cheap I'd be putting in a buffer of about 500 in case your there a extra day or so 👍
Take note you young lads fresh out of college there are thousands of properties still wired like this all over the UK.
Also good price mate.
19:24 wait I recognize that walk...
£281.02 for a PME includes an isolator though
Lived in rewire just finished 3rd and last one never again
Yep, I don’t do them either, far too much agg
I did a two year stint of lived in rewires, got two weeks for the average house, included plastering up all chases, used to take 8 working days on average, got in such an easy routine that I quite liked doing them
Ceiling light fixtures hanging from their power cords ? Electrical devices in the shower ? U.K. houses seem to be very dangerous.
For Stafford you need to add 10% to your prices as your a bit cheap.
where was this video filmied what area due to i recognise the accent and i think your local
Stafford bud
Price seems fair. Be interesting to know what you expect materials / time split to be. I would guess something like £700 and 7 days ? And you would expect the 2 of you can do it in less than 7 but have to price that as there will surely be some challenges given the way that place looks to have been built and maintained.
Ha ha. You're having a laugh.
10 days at least.
Hmm not a bad price at all I was thinking 4K plus vat from me 👍 well done on the run though good for clients to see and take note on what’s involved
wow those olde BC ended fluros...
Where have you been? Hiding
In a food coma by the looks of things 😞
No enough free stuff for him to flog 😉
Good fair price. I was thinking around 6k
Damn. I’m a electrician in germany. And the difference is insane. The fuse box in the beginning ng looks like a mess. Is it normal like that?
@@farmersteve129 Yeah I agree, I can see it been adapted / added over the time until it form into a major clusterf*ck! It's so bad and I am amazed 😳
at 23:00 those big closets sometimes they have a socket inside
Where are you based?
Looks a nightmare job, I always warn the customer of the problems ,like you did ,but I would have mentioned any surface trunking that was needed, price sounds ok with me.good luck .
i would of said 5.5K + vat , as you said we are all different, lifting carpets , relaying, furniture moving , now i know why i enjoy commercial install , + theres more money in commerical, i just feel for all the hard graft in domestic the reward is very little, just my opinion , but good luck
Can earn really good money in domestics aswell, hes charging over 4k for about a week and half weeks work.
Commercial tends to be hourly rate most of the time and if its jib rates its shit.
I wouldnt choose to go into domestics myself, but these lads on youtube get some good jobs and will get decent money for them.
Honi soit qui mal y pense good luck doing that in a week and a half !! There’s a grand in materials also . Horrible job being occupied also I’d walk away - no actually run !
@@honisoitquimalypense1316 i assume you dont do commerical , its hardly ever hourly rate, nomally its priced, 1 prefer 3 phase , panel works, personally domestic is for apprentices and basic sparks , apart from good route planning, and neatness theres no hardship of design expertise involved , mainly rule of thumb , plus a lot less money , we do alot of school, church , office works and believe me you earn more on commerical than domestic
@@Marco-mg9tv even if it was 2 weeks and 1k on materials, its still around 1.5k per week which isnt bad really.
11:40 ..........i think its just "greased shut" lol
Any Sussex electricians on here? I need one!
Is this DSES old house 😂
i'm so far behind, catching up...
Check out this: ruclips.net/video/hYdWyKIuwQM/видео.html
What hourly rate we should all be charging not London/ Inner city of course which all are more !
what annoys me about all this is , people would rather pay some chav with a paint brush five hundred quid to paint a room then pay for a rewire which could affect their lives to a much greater degree then a nice coat of paint !!!
Nagy would charge 15k.
