reasanable price considering what we have to go through with training, insurances, liabilitys etc and theres always more involved than you think, i'd put 10% on it to be on the safe side

I just finished a three bed rewire with large rear extension that was 10.5 K. I have been running my own business for the last 20 years.Done office fit outs shop fit outs. Now back local its Nice to know what other company's are charging. I charge £45 an hour £90 call-out Hope that helps anyone starting out. .
Mate, that price is fine! I’ve just completed a full rewire to a similar spec for just over £5K.
You will find that your price will be somewhere in the middle if there were several quotes.
For the purposes of rewire quotes I count switches as points as I'm fairly certain that an average switch and light is a lot more work than an average socket (usually longer cable runs between accessories and longer chases).
Hi matey you could purchase 20 or 26mm steel conduit fityings with allen key fixings no threading needed. They make all the bends and cuplers that you will need for the jobby.
You hit the nail on the head with your words at at 7.44 where you say £50 per point and that is what you were taught, we were charging £50 per point over 20 years ago maybe it's time the industry started charging more not trying to recover costs elsewhere, luckily you have 31 downlights which will help raise the overall cost and profit of the job.
You also say you get most of the jobs you quote, stick a fiver or a tenner a point on at the very minimum and thank me later.
Does that price include your materials so sockets and switches or would that be another separate cost?

I use quickbooks for quoting and invoicong, can add in itemized pricing, links to your bank and tracks profit and expenses for the month, paying $8 a month. Desktop and a good mobile app. Good for pricing up for something when you're on the job.
Late to the game as I just caught the video...years later, but I agree with QB, I use QBO and it even takes care of all of my taxes. Very nice feature is you can create bundles in your inventory. So if you do the same job quite often you can have all the material/labour/permits all bundled as one item and modify it per use if need be. As an example I do many service changes and they are all relatively identical in nature give or take breakers. So instead of creating a new BOM on every estimate I just pick my customer's account and pick PKG/100ASRVC (that's what I call it) and "Ta-Da" all my material I typically use and all my labour and the permit all show up. Big time saver. And I can select if the estimate displays all of the bill of material for the customer to see or not.
On another note I have quickly learned that there is VERY FEW instances where selling yourself short on pricing is worth it. You absolutely need to be able to make a living and if a customer is going to nickel-and-dime you it's not worth it...don't gouge the crap out of the customer but at the same time to settle for less than your worth. I will say though, I do occasionally allow little old ladies to haggle my pricing on small jobs...some times it costs me but in the long run it doesn't hurt and they are pretty happy after the fact :)

PVC a galore,always push in connectors, no much testing, and Shit sockets!....similar money I think( maybe a bit better considering the cost of life).Anyway, thank you for you videos,is very kind.
If you like to make a quick rewire estimate, You can use a round all included in price time the square foot of the property. Example: Open walls, $7 per square feet. Close walls and single story, $13. On a 2 story or plasters wall the price goes up to $18 per square feet. Last project I did, 1750 sqf X $18 = $31,500 2 weeks, also available financing for customers.
Love watching your videos. You genuinely seem a really good guy and Adam is very lucky to have you as a boss to learn the ropes. I’ve got ocd for neatness so it’s great watching you never take the short cut but treat the clients jobs if it was like working on your own house. Ps try and build Adams confidence and film him explaining what he is doing, why etc.......keep up the good work
Videos like these really help with customer expectations. It's helpful to see consideration that goes into the quotes then the work required. This kind of video also makes you transparent and honest. Keep it up mate, really good effort.
Ask your wholesaler for ‘conlock’ couplers/boxes. When using steel conduit, instead of threading for couplers and adaptors you just have a small grub screw which bites into the conduit. Saves loads of time 👍

Top man for making this video. It encourages people to keep the trade profitable. Used to work in transport before, i can tell you that people have competed each other into the ground leaving no room to make a living anymore. I'm not saying, in electrics, people should charge ridiculous prices but one should be able to make a living out of it without having to cut corners.

Hey Dude I remember talking about fitting boards on the 18th course, I was one of the higher priced guys- I was also the only guy then fitting RCBO's and SPD's if I remember, everyone else was still doing split RDC boards. Been following this channel since- good work!

Good video and great honesty about pricing. I have all my prices listed on my website so people can check before they even call me. Gone are the days of haggling over a job i'm afraid. I like the enquirers that ask for a good cheap electrician. You can have one or the other not both.
I use the £50 per point rule, as a double check I cost up materials and time and on a £5000 job only around £50 out, so works for me

Really good video mate. Breaking it down and simplifying it makes it easy. Just out of interest is them prices just for the labour or material as well.
That was really interesting, and the house is exactly like one I did a quote for in the summer down in West Sussex. I can't remember how much I quoted but I think I was about £7.5k could have been less, but he gave no guidance on what he wanted. Worst thing was the walls and ceilings of course. 1950s light switches (or older), really old board in impossible location (cupboards built in since) and yeah, very similar. I went past the place again a couple of weeks ago and poked my head round the garden and through the kitchen window..... nothing's been done. So maybe nobody else wanted the job either (wattle and daub walls, lath and plaster ceilings).

That’s about where I was price wise on a recent quote. Basic 3 bed but I allowed a few more sockets and data x5. Priced at 5k. The client found someone to do it for 2.5k. Cowboys kill us

Great vid as usual 👍🏻, one thing your apprentice seems to have that you can't teach him is work ethic!. Willing to work during the half term and not go on his jollies 👌. I know you don't pay him but buying him tools is class. Gonna try and get my lads into a trade when they get older.... Hopefully they can get some experience with someone similar to yourself. The more of this the better I think and maybe one day there will be a decent standard rate rather than the old fashioned 140-180 a day bollox that’s been around my area for must be 10 yrs since I’ve been self employed.
I’m £25/hr and use to be a lot less last year, I think I’m too cheap but don’t want to go to mad with regular customers.
Suppose it also can depend on how much work others have on and how desperate they are. Great vid 👍
Depends where you are, but £25 an hour does sound a bit on the cheap side. Although I still charge some clients who treat me well and get me lots of work a lower rate (these people are invaluable, gladly charge them a bit less for a job I know I'll come home from feeling good, just makes life better).
I don’t think 25 an hour in the south east would be sustainable, that’s cheap
nick I have been doing electrical estimating for about 25 years now stick to your prices. I am not familiar with your area pricing since i am in the USA. but in my experience most customers always try to chew your price down. If you feel that you gave an honest price, stay with it, and leave contingencies for changes. Try using a time and labor based estimating software and add % for administrative fees. Seems to me your on the right track.Keep up the good work and not let anyone change what your doing unless it is to help you. good luck

Just curious - if you chase out a wall to say extend a wall socket, do you make good after with plaster or something else? Or just leave it to the customer?
I use that method per point pricing , you gain on some and loose on others ,profits all down to how fast you can work ,must admit I only use this on new build extension work with builders ,who also have a quantity surveyor doing all the costs ,in occupied jobs it’s daywork and materials ,I found per point doesn’t work so well. You should try doing the fire alarm it’s only fp200 ,just get a manufacturer in to spec and design and commission and you can install and 2 nd fix

Cilpsal used to do the retro style round brown dolly switches. They were about 40 quid a switch if I remember right. Excellent video thanks.
I've kept a few that nearly went in the skip. I haven't put any of them to use yet, and I can't see why there would be a problem. The mechanisms in those old switches are a work of art. The pull-switches from the 1970s still operate more smoothly than any of the new ones. I reckon if you can't see any damage and they work reliably, you could make the customer very happy by re-using them.
Yes I completely agree. Very well made unlike a lot of modern crap. Believe the issue when I suggested re using some old ones was there openable without the use of a tool because the front just twisted off a bit like a ceiling rose and no current B.S Have seen ones with a couple of screws though. Don’t know about specific quoting software but at least use a spreadsheet template to make life easier for your calculations, auto add the columns - much easier if the qty changes, saves adding it all up again.

I priced it at £5,900 . Theres a lot of plastering to do and if they want a paint Finnish theres two days work guaranteed, also the floor boards want pilot drilling and screwing down, there may also be some floor board repairs where the plumber has destroyed them, this price includes prismian cable hager DB rcbos and mk sockets and switches. It's also surprising how much time you waist plotting down lights due to joist lay out and were customer thinks he can have them.

The software that i use is my own creation using an excel spreadsheet and database that i update regularly and am usually accurate to 1hr of my estimates but it took time to get it that way.

I'm a painter / decorator and trying to get info to price a job from other P&Ds is almost imposible so you go on all websites ask friends if they would pay XYZ and start getting to a price structure. Hats off to you for sharing. Customers don't realise the work and personal expense. Mind you there's also the people who can undercut your prices and do every job at a loss but still make thier living. 😎
1 question,in this pricing,are the electrical materials included or only your labour job?

My electrician wasn't registered to a scheme so he informed the building control himself and the building control signed off the work and gave us a building notice completion certificate, is this sufficient paperwork after a full rewire is done?

10mm to an oil Aga? I think they are fused at 3amp...5amp max. 0.75 heat resistant should suffice.

The easiest way I've found to create quotes for free is to use excel create multiple sheets with data then the main form is selected from lists. Took some time to setup but has more than halved my quotation time plus its all logged and backed up on my external hard drive.
Yet again top vlog. Seems a fare price.

Your Prices are similar to Coventry. It Normally works out close to £50 per point
Interesting video. It must be 50 years since I did this for some cash while studying at college. I’ve had to become an electrician to sign off the electrical work for my extension at home so enjoy watching the videos to pick up tips. I was interested so I can price up the work I have done at home. Can I comment on your pricing? I tend to use excel as a note pad so doing calculations is a basic function. I make the total £5590, you seem to have added a 20% discount. I spent most of my time working on the High Voltage network 400,000 volts but enjoyed the challenge of getting qualified.
enjoying the vids have you thought of using excel so you simply enter the number of sockets for example and it calculates that for you very straight forward

Hello Nick, nothing wrong with being open with prices for your jobs I was keen to watch the video to see how you priced your work and was relieved to see you charge exactly the same way as I do and the basic unit costs per socket/light I charge are exactly the same £50 each etc, one thing you didn't mention was your cost for the testing and certification I bung another £200 on top I use icertify on my iPad but you have your time at home checking over the certificate etc and the registration to Napit, I also add the AGRO FACTOR another £200 just in case there's a problem

Couple of questions? 1 did you win the business and also when I totted up your figures it seemed to come to £5,590k rather than the £4,840. is this just materials costing or is your day rate and labourers wage included? i thought pricing was always materials plus wages/rates? i have only recently started to look into being self employed so im just a bit confused about how it works, the builder who i work for prices this way so wondered if you had a different way
Ian Charles So much more than just wages plus materials. You’ll find you probably don’t cover all your overheads/business costs if you charge like that. Need to factor in all your costs and make an hourly rate that covers all of those plus your time off etc. Look at My Trusted Electrician Luke Wichards video on pricing and he sums it up excellently.

Quinetic switches are rubbish I used them for garden lights. receiver in the shed/switch in the house I could only get it to work when 10meters away and if I shut the shed door it wouldn't work .don't waste your time on them price looks good to me

Also go to waveapps.com you won't look back when sending estimates invoices etc, it's free to use. I can send invoices of the mobile app on my phone aswell as estimates from iPads. Upload business logo, adds up pricing takes into account vat if needed etc. Its brilliant

Fair and open pricing out in the open can only be good thing. I am usually on the cheapie lol. But lost 3 rewires this month . Too expensive. 2emty cottages in my village owned by same guy usual stuff few spots and USB sockets in every room. Cat 5 in every room. Rcbo board ect. SO not standard rewire. Small cottages but on 4 levels attic bedroom kit hin in cellar. Would have been good jos walk to work after school run so quoted mega keen £2950 !! He said is that for both cottages or just one? Ffs said I was miles off with my price. Ha what a dick. Materials be about a grand. Win some lose some. I may have dodged a bullet . Lol.

last year i had a qoute of £4000 I wrote that list what needs doing on mybuilder.com and my budget of £1,500 several electricians got in touch ... job was done at £1,500 over 4 days ... :)
Good video mate as always, are your prices based on white plastic accessories ie pendants and sockets and switches? I’m assuming you’d add more if the customer asked for brushed steel etc and fancy lights?

Great video - I think you are underselling yourself a bit on the lighting works inside and out. Are these prices ex-vat?
Also do you add on earthing and bonding and smoke alarms at the end?

Far too cheap, no matter where you live 35 sockets. Don’t undersell yourself, there are plenty of cowboys out there to make a fast buck. You are guaranteeing the work, doing a quality job, with quality materials & not rushing around. You should be looking at around £6k minimum.
But there's the rub. You don't undersell yourself and put in a reasonable price, but then the cowboys come in and undercut you which compels you to undersell yourself to get the work.
