When I first started out, I used to take the time to write out quotations and explain what I was charging for and was happily accommodated with a reasonable supply of work. Then I got cocky!! Needless to say, I’m back to taking the time over my quotes and the customer knows exactly what they’re getting. Sometimes the comments about how they were impressed with how I took the time over pricing their work over someone’s else’s, even though the other’s may have been cheaper, won me the job. Be professional, to your word and don’t try to get rich quick. It was hot out there today!

4-5 years at college, insurance tools books having to do wiring regs updates experience ,etc the price is the price people don't think twice at £80 on a night out.
    another great thread.
There will always be someone cheaper no getting away from that, but what will the quality of work be like you can bet DIY Dave from the pub won't honour a gash job when it goes wrong or he drills a hole through the gas pipe.

I lose no sleep for the jobs I lose to the cheaper alternative. It is what it is, is what it is. :)

The key phrase on my estimates is 'You will only be charged for time and materials used'.

Can you do a video on customer relations? I find it difficult dealing with some customers. The Dunning Kruger’s of the world. Would like to hear your perspective.

What about working on a price where materials are supplied and your labour only?

The "markup" thing is a bad look. I've seen on the trade shop sites that they have a calculator for this. Very cheesy.
