I am 82 and I first heard this song being sung by my Dad as he tended his horse, mules and cows on evenings. He was a farmer and always told me that singing makes the tiredness go away. I have always loved this song and s@ng it with my kids. Such happy memories!
I am a late 60years Korean and I sang Clementine with my elder sister when I was 5 or 6 years old. When I entered into a middle school(7th grade in US), I learned Oh Susanna, Red river valley, Swanny river, Loreley. I like American culture except gun fighting.
My mother had a good singing voice, but my dear Father could not carry a tune. But, I can still see him singing this song in the bathroom while he was shaving. I found a little black book after he died, where he wrote down the words to this song and “You are my Sunshine “ and others. I still have it. It seems like yesterday as I stood in the back hall just watching him nearly 70 yrs ago! Good and sad memories !😔🥰🧑🏻🦰🇨🇦
I can still picture watching my dad shaving and singing this song. I was out in the hall and he was unaware that I was watching. That was 70 yrs ago. He wrote down cowboy songs in a little black book, which I still possess! Great memories.🥰🧑🏻🦰🇨🇦
And of course I thought, at that young age, that it referred to the Red River Valley in Manitoba, and can remember singing it out loudly, while dressed in my new Cowgirl Outfit, and with my little 'wind up' (music box style) ukulele at 4 1/2 or 5 years old.
I'm 63 and from south africa...I learned this song and many other such songs when music was taught in schools....apartheid era.....beautiful memories of my primary school days....was soo happy....inspite of apartheid....wish we could go back to those years....the best years of my life ❤
It would be good to roll back the clock and take all the sadness away , but I have a feeling that if I did the joy would be gone as well ! Take Care Friend 😅
Red River Valley was the first song I learned as a boy. In 1949 I began school age 5 in an area South of Tucson, Arizona on the highway to Nogales, Mexico. Western music was more in vogue than any other type and our first grade teacher taught us Western music and it began with this song. I can still remember the words now into my 80's. Thanks for the video, I will play it again. This is a great rendition of the ballad.
My father was also a good singer in where I often heard sung this song for me as my Lullaby am now old Senior Citizen at 80'sa d I can still sing it wt my Ukelele, thanksfor sharing this golden song of yesterday,❤❤❤
That was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on the violin and sing with my father playing guitar how I long for those days again I'm now 72 and my father has been gone many years and my mother as well I sit here with tears in my eyes remembering those days
I know how you feel. It’s nice to remember back to simpler times. Things were not always so great but they are slowly replaced by the pleasant memories.
When my little brother & I were pre-schoolers, I remember us sitting with my dear mama in a rocking chair and she would sing this, and Home on the Range. That was 69yrs ago. I sure miss her.
My granddad died when I was 3 so I never got to know him , but I was told this was his favorite song . When I hear it I think of my granddad and wonder......
Classics as intended go on in and through time. Red River Valley is only one of many. A beautiful song that takes us all there to the special place and time of Red River Valley.
Takes me down memory lane watching those cowboy movies the vast lands of Nevada the Grand Canyon the Prairies the The Red Indians how we enjoyed watching all that USA has a beautiful country side i luv it ❤

I dedicate this lovely song to a girl who never did say any sweet words thou i had wished she would... and one fine day she vanished😊😊😊 but her memories still lives.
My sweet handsome Uncle Frank Painter❤...who always looked like Adam Cartwright ...used to sing this beautiful Red River Valley song to me when I was 5 years old❤always dressed in sharp black cowboy hat...black cowboy boots...beautiful voice and guitar...he passed away today💧💧💧💧my eyes are full of tears and my heart is broken 💔...he was 87...but a couple months ago I asked him to sing it to me again...I'am 65 ...I handed him his pretty guitar and he did just that for me...I will miss him...but I will always remember him and The Red River Valley ❤I love you Uncle Frank, love niece Marylynn ❤
How lovely to hear this sung as intended. I'm UK, I've been watching RUclips videos of UK street pianists, Terry Miles and Dr. K (Brendan Kavanagh) - in train stations, shopping malls, pubs, etc. Terry often plays this in Boogie Woogie style - great for getting the feet dancing. Mch'24. E ❤

I have always been a fan of Marty Robbins and this is one of my favorite songs, This version is a joy, but it lacks the subtle pathos of Johnny and the hurricanes
For me when first listening to this song when im 13yo. Its my first intro to my english medium school. With a sentimental heart i started memorising this song. I am 70 now but still remember even not all verses. Its a nostalgic moments of a kid with memories that only oneself will understand.
This song brings back memories of my student days as a Wolf Cub in 1953 when I was 10 years old. The teacher-in-charge was Mr. Yip, who had a great singing voice, taught us this lovely song. Lim TS, 22-2-24 😊

There is Red River in North Vietnam. The pilots who arrested in Vietnam war used to sing this song. We love this song very much. At that time we have also the Vietnamese words for this song. Half of century already past!

A beautiful song and lyrics as evergreen from my father's days. Now I am 81.
These old songs must live on, there will never be the like again…. Alll you get now is rubbish!
Calling the new music "rubbish" is being generous.😢
