    It just doesn't get any better than this. Not just this song, but all those songs we grew up with in the 60's, 70's and 80's ...I know every generation says it, but seriously look at the world now. We are like aliens, those of us who grew up with this music. The world is so different now. What they sing about, what they speak about -- it's mostly nothing ...it's foreign ...thank God I grew up in the 70's and 80's ...I'm lucky, I got to live through that time of innocence and beauty. No phone glued to my hand. Pinball and ten pin bowling was as hardcore as it got lol ..and the music just kept feeding the soul

      60s and early to mid 70s were the best. Afterwards it went downhill with the rise of vhs people became lazy and it gave them more of an excuse to stay in the house. Once the 90s came around it got even worse with the rise of the internet although the internet was slowly making its way in the 80s.
      You see back in the 60s and for most of the 70s if you wanted to see a movie you’d get your ass up and go to the theatre otherwise you missed it. There was no 24 hour tv or recording devices to tape it either, we had fewer channels back then, so the odds the movie would be on tv would be slim as well unless it was really special.
      Long live the 60s and 70s the best music, the best movies, the best fashion,
      Screw the 80s and everything that came after that.

    Timeless words of wisdom. As a management consultant who cared too much about my clients and my job, I spent far too long chasing lost causes, trying to help people who refused to listen, refused to be helped and who would never change. Like Don Quixote I tilted at too many windmills and never knew when to walk away. I wasted so much emotional energy at much cost to my health and learned so much of Kenny Rogers' advice the hard way. This song is truly an ace that you can keep.
    RIP KR. Thanks, dude. I wish I'd listened when I was younger.

      I would translate your experience to that of an old cliché : you learned a lesson the hard way; you were trying too hard to change someone into somebody that you wanted them to be but instead you consequently changed yourself into that of someone that you didn’t seek the desire of becoming

    • @dwwd6320
      @dwwd6320 Год назад

      @@HugeShaft Could be. I was trying to change them into something that they needed to be in order to stay in business. Some learned, some didn't. Out of those who didn''t, some saw the light later, others didn't - and the latter either went out of business or are well on the way to doing so. Did the experience change me? Well I suppose yes in that it taught me the defense mechanism of learning to shrug my shoulders, wish them all the best and walk away. As the old adage goes: no man is so deaf as he who will not hear. But thankfully it didn't turn me into a bitter old cynic - that's something that I really have no desire of becoming.

    The Gambler,,
    is a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences decades after its release. The song's enduring appeal lies in its masterful storytelling and the universal life lessons it imparts through gambling metaphors. Its vivid imagery transports listeners to a late-night train journey, where a chance encounter leads to profound wisdom. The song's chorus, with its iconic advice about knowing when to hold, fold, walk away, or run, has become deeply ingrained in popular culture. This memorable refrain, combined with the song's compelling narrative and Kenny Rogers' distinctive voice, ensures that The Gambler" remains fresh and relevant to new generations of listeners... The song's ability to blend entertainment with philosophical insights about life's uncertainties contributes to its lasting impact and ensures its place as an evergreen classic in the country music canon

    There's great wisdom hidden in this song. Like all the things in life, you have know when to hold on, or when to let it go. Be it love, war, money, whatever. And never think you know what the outcome will be until the end has come (never count your money when sittin at the table). And that's exactly the things my pop used to say to me.
    (sorry for my bad english), I'm french-canadian)

    It's interesting as well as beautiful how some of us here were introduced to this song by our fathers.
    My father loves country music and I find myself playing his favourites when I miss him. Music such as this beautiful piece takes me back to when I was child and we'd sit in silence together. He'd be deep in thought as he relaxed and enjoyed his music. I always wondered why. I guess the only way to find out is to ask him where his mind was the entire time we'd listen to country music together. I love you Daddy. ❤

    "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers is a song that tells the story of a chance encounter between a young narrator and an older gambler on a train. The older man shares wisdom about life and gambling, emphasizing the importance of making wise decisions, taking calculated risks, and knowing when to walk away from a situation. The song's advice transcends gambling, serving as a metaphor for navigating life's challenges and uncertainties with wisdom and prudence.
