  • Today we return to a Gentry favorite as I share some new pick ups for my war room, including some G-Shock goodies, new luxury leather desk accessories from Carl Friedrik, and some classic, must-see movies from John Woo and Takashi Miike. I also debut an exciting new strap from Wrist Candy Watch Club.
As always, in true Gentry fashion, we conclude with some watch collection chat as I contemplate my next watch purchases including G-Shock, Breitling, and Grand Seiko. I also discuss the main cause of my watch seller’s remorse when it comes to collecting timepieces.

This is a TGV i've fallen in love with years ago, I'm so glad he's back, I know this will sound stupid but it makes me feel 4 years younger, remainds me of all the good times that were happening to me back then, time when Imstarted collecting watches and bought my first mechanical watch. TGV, I FINALLY bought my first luxury watch. I got a brand new Rolex OP 36 black sunburst dial. It is marvelous and have been completely chuffed to bits! Thank you for all your content to help me narrow down this new found love of mine. The 3 6 and 9 double bars is truly unique and it gives this watch the subtle bling that separates it from anything else.

I highly regret having flipped the SNK809. Even though it barely got any wrist time. It was my rush to reduce the collection down to a two-pieces-collection. But now I understand you, sometimes you fancy that one little watch or this one. In fact I want to increase my collection BUT only with ultra unique watches. I found a little hi-beat vintage seiko. Square, empty black glossy dial, 32mm. A perfect restaurant dinner watch. 💪😍

I really enjoy watching your videos, this one in particular. Especially towards the end when you talk about the cyclical nature of buying and selling things that you may regret later. I have this syndrome 10x I’m always buying and selling then re-buying. I am 22 years old so I know there’s time to buy things back but I just wanted to say how much I resonated with that statement. And yes there are plenty of us out there like this.

My watch collection has gone over quite an change during these last few months. A few months ago I started to get into the used and second hand market by getting a few watches from an online auction site.
Key takeaways from that: Know exactly what you want, make all the possible research that you can, make much more and then maybe put out an offer. And also take into the price the cost to have it cleaned and repaired. I have made a few errors but learned my ways.
I have also sold off a few watches myself on the same site. Mostly because I felt it was watches that just didn't get any wrist time and they really deserved it.
My collection now is one that I am quite happy with, I got 6 or 7 that I rotate during a week along with a few Casios and Timex watches that I keep but tool watches and because I love collecting them.

Since the start of the pandemic and all the isolation and closures, I've been wearing my SKX-007 almost all the time. I even stopped switching into my "work watches" (nothing crazy, just a Sinn 104 and a Jazzmaster Auto Chrono - but I enjoy them!). The SKX is reliable, durable, and easy to read at a glance - lume is fantastic. The day-date complication is incredibly practical, too. No matter what the day throws my way, I know I'll never have to worry about my watch. If I am ever parted from it and need to leave in a hurry, I do have a "go bag" in the closet by the door (since you brought those up), with another SXK-007 tucked safely inside.
Purchasing goal the second half of this year is pretty basic. Who doesn't enjoy lusting after high-end pieces and appreciating the crafstmanship and legacy behind them, but a Seamaster is a more likely purchase for me before the end of 2020.

My father passed a little over a month ago; he knew what a watch enthusiast I was and he left me his Rolex Submariner 5513 that he got shortly after I was born. I had it reconditioned (no polishing) and have been wearing it proudly ever since.

I have been going more into micros on one hand while consolidating on the other. I've picked up a Ming 17.06 Copper and Kurono Mori by Hajime Asaoka which I consider as real milestone additions. I also traded in several watches to pick up a Nomos Tangente and the Aqua Terra Worldtimer which were goals for me.
Future plans revolve around unique materials for dial like abalone and carbon and other gemstones. That will be complimented by going after other grails over a longer period. I feel a lot clearer about what attributes I like in watches and my ethos has changed completely. I've also become quite a strap addict - again focusing on exotic leathers. Really enjoy how they change the look and feel of my watches.
My wife is also now interested in the hobby so I now look for pieces we can both wear as part of my focus. All in all, the last year has been a really interesting and enjoyable one in terms of my collection. Looking forward to future.

You are the reason why I got into watch collecting last year, by beginning to actually check what watches I already owned. Previously, I would just wear a watch for a few years, seeing it as just a time keeper, forgetting why I bought it in the first place.
At the beginning of the year, I rounded up all my quartz watches, two Wengers and the Flighty's predecessor, the 7T34, and had them serviced. I absolutely adore the latter, even though the bracelet is rubbish. I have no clue what strap to use for a full gold-toned watch. Maybe the new El Alamein, although it is 19mm.
    I've purchased an SNKL23, SNXS79, SKX007 (modded) and a SNA411. Also a Duro and a G-Shock GWM-5610, Timex Ironman Enduro 30. I'm currently wearing my first-generation Mercer Voyager diver.
Oh, I also bought my first Invicta, the 1953, ref. 31920, which is a great watch I adore.
I'm saving up to send my Oris Big Crown Chronograph in for service.
There are a few other watches I'm looking at, including a Seiko SARX045, but apart from that and a dress watch, maybe a Marlin, I will be saving up for my grail watches, conveniently, all Omegas.
Thank you for reigniting my love for watches.

Hey I'm late to this party, but what fun! I love seeing people's books and I'd watch your camera linger across your bookshelves for a while actually. When you were talking about your Navitimer and the regret in having sold the blue one I had the thought that perhaps it IS a good thing not to just have the funds to buy any and every watch that catches our eye. Yes, who doesn't want all the money one can have, yet in our hobby I do like the focus having a limited amount to spend. I think it makes you do more research, enjoy the feeling of the hunt and, in the end maybe feeling a bit more rewarded by our choices...even the ones we later change our mind on. Speaking of that I have just bought the Yema Flygraf Pilot M1 for myself and myn family got together to buy my brother the Yema SupermanHeritage for his birthday. All thanks to you for bringing the brand to my attention,. Cheers man.

Great to see you well TGV. We don’t get to see much USA news here in the UK, but the crisis has hit us hard and I can imagine it’s probably worse over there. I recently got the new Lorier Neptune that was released in May. I’ve loved this watch ever since you reviewed the first version so it has been amazing to finally get one and I think the Series 3 is probably Lauren and Lorenzo’s best yet. So a massive thanks to you for switching me onto this brand. Keep safe and see you soon!

I love the content of your videos. I’m not a nostalgic guy but there are a so many things in your videos that remind me of my childhood. I’m a 80’s kid 😉. My collection is expending and I just got back my Datejust 16014 from service after months of waiting due to the confinement. I also just ordered the beautiful stainless steel Casio A1000D - 7EF. Pretty happy 😊

Congratulations on the great NATO straps! Definitely a must have! Special kudos to you for paying tribute to the brave soldiers who fought in El Alamein. I am italian and, alas, Italy was clearly on the wrong side of the battlefield there, no question about it. The Italian soldiers received the honour of arms for that battle: I like to think the memory of the soldiers who fight with courage and honour should be cherished and respected, in the hope that the same values can inspire our lives in times of peace. Army General Paolo Caccia Dominioni devoted his life to preserving the memory of those who perished on the battlefield, and he designed and built the Italian memorial and mausoleum.

That’s hilarious I started The Sopranos again a couple weeks ago. On the last episode of Season 2. Last time I watched it about two years ago I was a casual watch collector, now I’m sorta obsessed. I didn’t realize how many Rolexes are in the show. They are almost literally in every scene.(not just Tone’s President either, even Furio wears a President.)

You have in many ways described my collecting habits. Always there is internal friction in buying and letting go. In my case my watches aren't generally worth anything to sell so buying just increases the size of the collection. Always torn to add to it because the collection is getting big.

Cool stuff TGV. The war room is looking great 👌. The last couple of months I've been "blessed" with some work/maintenance around the house wich ate quite a bit of my savings. Therefore a Casio GA-2100 and a new fidgety pocket knife had to do. So far I have no regrets and with a little bit of patience I'll be back in to more serious watch collecting.
Looking forward to the next one.
    Regards,

My watch collection bagan around a year and a half ago with a subscription to watch gang and a monthly subscription. At first I enjoyed getting a surprise in the mail every month but recently have wised up and I canceled that now I buy what I like. Now I’m wanting to spend more on some choice pieces. I’m going to start with a Glycine combat, but I do have a taste for G-Shocks lol I’m all over the place in my collection! Anyway I’m glad you are enjoying the path your on and wish you the best!

Man with a bulls head is a Minotaur. Theseus was tasked with killing the Minotaur which was located in the center of a complex labyrinth. See Edith Hamilton's Mythology, Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes should be able to verify this, I hope. Quite an entertaining video, it seems you are enjoying presenting it as much as we enjoy watching it. Stay calm and keep up the good work - All the best, RKL.

Reminds me of the ribbons that war medals are suspended on, perhaps we could find the ribbon colours of the Victoria Cross? Cant wait to see the Casio all blinged up. Good luck with the watch collection, I suppose getting rid is like pulling your finger nails out 😵

I put the hobby on ice to study abroad. Still, I brought my favorite ones with me and haven't gotten too many cravings for now. Also I noticed once I took some distance from the collection that I don't really needed some of them so I sold most of them and and now only have 6: a Hamilton, a Seiko, a Citizen, a Skagen, a Casio and a Kisai. My omega went as a graduation gift for my brother and in all honesty, that has given me much more happiness than wearing it myself, so I'm happy with the decision.

TVG great video. I"m new into collecting. G-Shock, Seagull 1963, Seiko SNK809, Vostock Submariner and my big watch (to me) is my Citizen's Eco-Drive E870 Perpetual Calendar. And all this started because someone gave me a Brietling knockoff and it sparked my interest in automatic watches.
Federico had a good video on not buying too many $200 watches because you will have a bunch of watches you can't sell to buy the grail watch you will one day desire. I agree so no more cheap watches.
Now I"m lusting after an automatic that has a power reserve complication.
Thanks for your great video's they help in this trying time.
