Morbid came to Salt Lake City, UT in the later 90's. We were too young to get into the club they were playing so we just hung out outside. Pete came and talked to us for at least half hour and he was such a nice guy. I mentioned I brought my 7-guitar and he said, 'go get it, I'll have Trey sign it'. So I got it and he brought me into the bar and I hung out with Trey. I'll never forget it. They didn't need to do that for some 17 year old kid. Will always be a fan.
the more i learn drums, the better i realize how great Pete is... When u see a mountain from far, it seems quite short but when u actually climb up the mountain, then u realize how high it is. Then Pete is like clouds around the mountaintop.
THIS my friends... is fucking epic. Just think for a moment.....the fact that he can play along with this means he knows the entire symphony. Admirable
Pete Sandoval has been around for a long time and hes always been an awsome drummer. His double bass skills are world renound and will go down in history as far as metal drummers go. Im a drummer and trust me what this man is doing in this video aint no walk in the park.
I see quite a bit of bashing on Pete here. Don't forget that he's 51 and was out of the game for a couple of years due to back issues which required more than one surgery. Back in his hay day Pete was one of the most impressive drummers in any genre and is still a legend.
There's no denying Pete's a monster drummer and one of the best the death metal scene has produced. However, this video is not particularly inspiring. He's just keeping a razor-sharp beat to a classical piece, and he's not concerned about note choice, voicing, scale usage, sight reading, scoring, etc. It would be a lot harder and more impressive if he was playing an instrument which required using that stuff I mentioned, but at the end of the day, he's just keeping a beat, and that's it. He could've hit the hi-hat instead of the ride cymbal or the toms instead of the snare, and it wouldn't have made a difference. It's not as exact as playing actual notes.
Im a big fan of his drumming style and i believe he is one of the best drummers in the history of death metal (if not the best) but at the same time something is telling me that his time is now long gone. Thanks for all you showed us Pete.
Rey del blast beat . me alegro mucho que se alla recuperado de la espalda el es un genio y es latino del salvador y fue de los primeros en el metal en ejecutar tecnica de blast beat
The fact that one of the best drummers from one of the most important death metal bands is playing Mozart just shows the level of intelligence and talent that these musicians have, for you is about Metal, for some of us is about Music.
Son, there is no death metal drumming as we know it without this guy. You just don't know it, you actually like his contribution. And let's talk about strength when you go through your own back surgery in your late forties.
I saw Pete twice with Morbid...first time after they released Heretic (or possibly Formulas) and second time when David rejoined them. Two things struck me about Pete: how powerful his drumming sounded and how much aggression he radiated while beating the crap out of his drums.
omg pete if you ever read this, PLEASE get back in morbid angel. its not the same without you man. Forget about the religious beliefs, religion and music are two different things. please get back in morbid angel, your the only one who can save the band. you trey and david as a trio made the best songs ever in morbid angel.
znedrow4 That's a good point. Never thought about that. Vincent claimed too that Pete found jesus though, with what you brought up though makes this more interesting lol. Maybe pete will return to morbid angel, anythings possible who knows. I heard that Trey was having few minor issues with Pete too after the release of Illud divinum.
Griffith x I couldn't agree with you more. Vincent was only good on covenant. But steve tucker was perfect fit for the band after Domination. he should've stayed he upped the vocalist style of morbid angel for the better. Vincent shouldn't have returned.
Griffith x I like Tucker, but I prefer Vincent's vocals (at least, his vocals from 1995 and earlier). Vincent had a menacing death metal voice, but you could also clearly understand every word. Can't say that about Tucker or most guys in the genre. I thought they hit their peak on Domination, and have always felt if Vincent was on Formulas Fatal To The Flesh it would have been an even better album.
I toured as guitar tech with Morbid on their summer 2008 Europe tour. Pete is a very nice guy and I had a great time hanging out with him. It was especially fun in Athens, Greece when my long time friend, the drummer for Nile, George Kolias drum tech'd for Pete at the Rock Wave festivals. George, by the way, is the nicest, most humble and probably the best death metal drummer on the planet. I won't say that I enjoyed touring with Morbid because I didn't. I won't mention names but one of th
Looks like great practice to gain different perspective, and practice to something unique. Pete's drumming definitely speaks for itself on Morbid Angel's albums! :-)
Awesome drummer, and I should know, as i am one. not a metal drummer either. perfect time, perfect technique, amazing single stroke rolls, and foot control.
fuck the haters man Pete's a legend and he's still amazing no matter how old he gets...this is so rad and there's just something about the way this guy looks that's metal...the older he gets the scarier and more metal he looks(I mean that as a compliment)
who says sandoval is not able to play the drums couldn't be more wrong. is a beast. he has a resistence not all the drummers in this world have. ulrich's way of playing is totally different, and certainly more simple.
I'm not the first, second, or third person who has already said this: Will anyone who is shit-talking Pete's drumming here, please post your version. Oh, you haven't? Oh, you can't? Why? I think it has something to do with people who talk shit, can't drum for shit.
+RMG Productions I'm not talking shit but I do hope that you realize there are a lot of things done wrong in the video? To name a few, the sound is very bad, the double bass drumming is sloppy at the best etc.. So you can't really criticize someone who points out faults in a video, when they are justified.
+Nikxaz I don't see or hear how it's sloppy unless you expect everything to be done and mixed and drums modified after it being produced and triggered. instead of just being raw and better sounding especially for a song like this. Fn noob
+Isis Cruz oh please. if you can't hear how it's sloppy then you either choose to not hear what is happening or you don't know what your talking about. drums being mixed? of fucking course I expect them to be atleast mixed, who doesn't mix their drums when they record them?? as for over-production, I don't need everything to sound perfect. But, that wasn't the question. I said the playing was sloppy, not the sound. you know, hits landing as flams or unisons when they clearly were meant to be a single stroke roll. so if you wish to call me a noob, please check what you're arguing about and not change it in the middle of your text. cheers
Went to see Morbid Angel at a small club high as fuck grabbed a beer from the bar turned around facing Pete just standing there inches away & scared the living shit out of me at first glance no bullshit!
haha..that's great...never seen something like this. I like the combination of classic symphonies and Metal like Dimmu Borgir do. But this kind is new to me. great.
Gene Hoglan - my favourite fat metal drummer.
Pete Sandoval - my favourite thin metal drummer.
😂😂😂👍
Wuhahahahahaha
Add favorite In shape Drummer - Jan HELLHAMMER Blomberg. 💪

Bill Cow Do you still have that guitar?
Mozart would be proud that new technology is playing this. And that his music has not totaly died.
Mozart is headbanging in his grave.
virtuosism and classics are timeless!!!
the more i learn drums, the better i realize how great Pete is... When u see a mountain from far, it seems quite short but when u actually climb up the mountain, then u realize how high it is. Then Pete is like clouds around the mountaintop.
Dae Kim he should be on the front cover of drummer magazines

The first movement ;)

Absolutely amazing. What reflection of musical personality... Pete is hands down one of the best extreme metal drummers to have walked among us.
I see quite a bit of bashing on Pete here. Don't forget that he's 51 and was out of the game for a couple of years due to back issues which required more than one surgery. Back in his hay day Pete was one of the most impressive drummers in any genre and is still a legend.
Nah I get it and most of us love petes morbid angel days but this does suck. Like, it's not even particularly musical in its orchestration.
I love Pete Sandoval 💯

yes i think also that Pete Sandoval is best in history of death metal. really epic talent.

if only I heard this version as a kid haha...Rocking out to Classical

the tempo changes are immaculate
i saw morbid angel once, and pete sandoval impressed me so much that still remember that day!!!
excellent pete sandoval you are the best

agreed, the only source for this seems to be david vincent's one interview. No confirmation from anyone else. Not necessarily true at all.
Great guy. Got to meet him before the Suffocation/Morbid Angel/Satyricon tour back in '05, in Dallas.
