Wheel Weight melting Hot Plate... Part 2 ... It works. Not as fast as propane but certainly cheaper.

A viable alternative to cranking up the turkey fryer and blowing a tank of propane for melting small batches of wheel weights into ingots.

These soft lead stick ons take longer in this hot plate set-up because they are pure lead with the melting point of 621 degrees F. The clip on weights are an alloy of lead, Tin, and antimony. Tin lowers the melting point somewhat so they melt quicker.

The ingot pans may have been teflon coated and caused the pitting on the ingots .

No doubt... hopefully that will burn off and produce better looking ingots. Ugly still serves its purpose.

@@ITZGR82BFREE I found some old solid aluminum muffin pans at a garage sale . The ingots fall right out and no worry about the ingot pan coming apart . The newer ones are crimped together and separate some times .
