Fallout 4 - Building at Oberland Station 01 (South Gatehouse)

  • This is the first part of my Building at Oberland Station series, which covers the construction of my settlement at Oberland Station. Apart from Place Everywhere no settlement object mods were used, and only uses vanilla and DLC objects.
    Not sure how much interest there will be in these videos, but after planning out my settlement at Oberland station I thought it might be interesting to record some footage of it being put together.
    Hopefully someone might find them interesting or useful 😊
    In this video I construct a gatehouse on the southern border of the settlement alongside the railroad tracks. This features two elevated guard platforms linked by a walkway, underneath these are two small buildings that will later become the settlements clinic and guard house.
    Alongside the larger building I also make a covered lean-to which will later feature a bar, and a patio area for tables and seating.

    I don't know if they knew, but there is a way to build anywhere with the **placeatme 000c1aeb** command, it is the workshop command, and it is very useful for constructions outside the boundaries of settlements, and also if you use the TCL command to Disable collisions , you can join several structures.

    Thanks for this video. It is very clear to see the advantages of 'Place Anywhere', which requires the FO4 SE. I once had the script extender installed but it got broken when Bethesda updated FO4 a couple of years ago. I didn't know how to fix it. Still don't. So I have gone without 'Place Anywhere' for all this time. Watching this video reminds me of what I lost. I will go see if I can learn how to reinstall the SE again. Thanks for the motivation.

      I had always wanted to like the settlement building system but found its limitations and restrictions too frustrating, and never had the patience to mess around with the various building glitches. Using Place Everywhere really allowed me to start enjoying building and is pretty much an essential mod for me now.
      Typically when Bethesda updated the game you would just need to wait for F4SE to be updated to work with the new game version (same applies for most other Bethesda games and their script extenders). There are utilities you can use to backup the games EXE so you could roll back and still use your old mods while waiting for F4SE to update.
      The games not seen an update for quite a while so if you just download and install the latest versions of F4SE and Place Everywhere they should just work 😁.

      @@FiddleflapsVids I agree completely. My problem is that I am supremely illiterate when it comes to knowing how to update to the new SE. With your encouragement, I will try to learn how. Well done.

    • @FiddleflapsVids

      If you manually installed F4SE you just need to extract the new files somewhere, and then copy them into your Fallout 4 game folder and let them overwrite any existing ones. Although a slightly cleaner method is use Vortex to install and manage it for you 😉.

So if you drop a "Gamma Gun (400)" on the ground and break it down, will it decrease the build limit the same amount if you were do break down 400 individual guns? Hopefully that makes sense.

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  10 месяцев назад

      @@eflem77 Sadly, that does not work. The amount the size bar is reduced seems to be linked to the number of polys the dropped object has, or at least from my limited understanding is how I think it works. So although you could drop a stack of 400 Gamma Guns the game is still only rendering one.
      As I only use this save file for building rather than manually dropping each Gamma Gun I spawn them in 5 at a time into the world (I find doing more than this at once can sometimes cause them the glitch or fall through the floor) using the console and greatly speeds up the process:

      @@FiddleflapsVids I don't see how anyone could not enjoy building settlements. But then again, I only play on survival mode so right from the start settlements were incredibly crucial. I cannot even count how many times I had to limp back to a settlement with no bullets, no health, starving, and over-burdened. Seeing the lights of a settlement in the middle of dark night in a downpore is a great feeling. But you really DO have to add mods so that you can unlock more ability to build bigger settlements otherwise you'll run out of build allowance. I never tire of this game. This game and Days Gone in Survival+ mode are my two favorite games for some time now. Most games that come out now are of no interest to me. Looking forward to Star Citizen. Another year to wait unfortunately...maybe more.

      @@ideiben3190 I have to confess that survival mode has never really interested me. I prefer to set the game on easy and just enjoy exploring and building, but of course there are many different ways to enjoy the game and can understand how survival mode appeals to those wanting a challenge😊
      You don’t need to use mods to reduce the build limit, I purposely don’t use one as I prefer to use a limited mod set in the hopes of keeping my game stable 🤞.
      Simply drop a weapon on the ground, enter build mode and then storing it will reduce the build bar (gamma guns work great for this). As the weapon is stored you can then repeat this process as needed.

      @@FiddleflapsVids Survival mode is for me the only way to play. It forces you to think tactically. And you are not able to run around with 500 pounds of gear. You are forced to make hard choices in every facet of the story and game play. In Survival mode you run across a Lot more Legendary enemies, who drop all kinds of rare weapons which you will never see in regular game modes. I don't understand how you mean that I can INCREASE the build limit on settlements without a mod..? I only use 3 mods, and have never had a single issue beyond a restart on rare occasion. Can you explain to me what you mean when You say that I can increase settlement build limits WITHOUT a mod..? I did not know this was possible. In Survival mode you no longer have fast travel, which, again, for me, makes the whole game incredibly immersive. I find myself having to 'plan' what I am going to do when I head out at the break of dawn. Additionally, there are MORE enemy spawns. You do more damage, and likewise the enemies do more damage. Survival mode is only hard for the first 20 or so levels then you get into the swing of it and it all works well. But the start in Survival mode can be pretty tough to endure.

      @@ideiben3190 It’s an old glitch that has never been patched, and allows you to reduce or even reset the build limit without using a mod. You can see it in action here:

    How do you sink the builds into the ground on console?

    • @FiddleflapsVids
      @FiddleflapsVids  2 года назад

      I don’t play on Console so not that familiar with their building techniques. If you are building without mods you would probably have to use group select with the pillar glitch, or use one of the console variants of Place Everywhere mod that I am using (either Place Anywhere or Xbox or QwaPA on PS).

      You should still be able to get a similar result without mods using the pillar / group select glitch (sorry if you already knew this!) Both Skooled Zone and Norespawns have videos on this and other vanilla building techniques that will hopefully help out your build 😊

      @@meaghantollar As FF mentioned the pillar should be able to get that in there without mods. If the floor is really low to the ground it is tough but that one is pretty high up.
      Edit: Other than the fact it is outside the build zone border in this build. Mods are needed to permanently place things that far outside the build border.

      I guess so… I have always played with the ‘no settlement attacks’ mod and so not that familiar with the vanilla attack spawn points. Bethesda’s strange decision to place them inside settlements led to that mod being the first one I ever installed, along with just never being a fan of the system in the first place.
