    Ooh, a country with great volcanic history. Here’s a quick rundown of the volcanoes and earthquakes of Italy (I’m ignoring the rest of the geology because it’s 3 am and I can’t be bothered doing research on it right now).
    Italy is very volcanically and seismically active due to the subduction zone to its south, where the African plate is moving under the Eurasian plate. The subduction zone is responsible for the existence of the Alps and many of the mountains across southern Europe, including all the volcanoes across Italy and Greece, and will also eventually cause the Strait of Gibraltar to close and the Mediterranean to dry up (I mention this a lot). In Italy, the most notable volcanoes are (iirc, and not necessarily in this order) Etna, Somma-Vesuvio (Vesuvius), Stromboli, Vulcano, Vulsini and Campi Flegrei. Etna and Stromboli are two of the most active volcanoes in the world-Etna emits more CO2 and water vapor than most other volcanoes on the planet iirc, alongside its many lava flows, and Stromboli has erupted almost every day for at least 2000 years (perhaps as many as 5000) and has been known as the Lighthouse of the Mediterranean due to how far away its glowing head could be seen at night from ships. Vesuvius is the only active volcano on the mainland of Europe (other than perhaps one in Greece? I can’t quite remember but I think one erupted sometime in the 1800s in mainland Greece), but next to Vesuvius is a much greater beast, Campi Flegrei-the Phlegraean Fields.
    Campi Flegrei is a large and partially-submerged system of overlapping calderas next to and actually underneath parts of Naples, somewhat similar to Yellowstone (though a little smaller). A major eruption ≈37500 years ago may have contributed to the extinction of the Neanderthals by causing Europe’s climate to become colder and harsher; its most recent eruption in 1538 created a new mountain, Monte Nuovo, and buried some villas and villages. Campi Flegrei frequently experiences earthquake swarms and also experiences a phenomenon called bradyseism, which means the caldera floor inflates and deflates over time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean an eruption is impending. I don’t know as much about Campi Flegrei as I do about many other volcanoes, but I know enough to say that Neapolitans shouldn’t be worried about it-it’s very closely monitored, and if an eruption was likely or even possible the authorities would let you know. I know more about Yellowstone, and the bradyseism and earthquake swarms in Yellowstone are more closely related to seasonal groundwater flow than it is to magma movements, so a little bit of movement at Campi Flegrei is NOT necessarily a reason to panic.

    An explanation of what happened at the beginning: France and Andalusia start with disasters; tons of rebels. If rebels win against France (I think they only need to occupy Paris), then the Carolingians are deposed and Francia becomes France, also leaving the HRE. If rebels win against Andalusia, they fall apart into multiple smaller nations.

    • @PX6DEVASTATER
      @PX6DEVASTATER Год назад +15

      Francia also has an option to just give in to the demands of their nobles and exile their king which is why it happened like day 1 here. Refusing to exile him is what leads to the rebels rising up. It is very rare for the AI to take the exile option but it happens occasionally.

    • @TheWafflian
      @TheWafflian Год назад +6

      That's one way, but there's also an event that fires on Nov 12 where Francia can choose to abandon the HRE outright and become France. AI only has like a 10% chance to take it though.
