  • Lifting or jacking an EV is no different to lifting any other vehicle, in that you should lift the car from the designated jacking points. This is normally pinch welds on the sills. However on a Tesla, the jacking points are next to each corner of the battery pack and are simply holes in a metal rectangular plate. On a Model S and Model X the jacking point is flush with the battery pack. On a Model 3 and Model Y, the jacking point now stands proud of the pack slightly. But in all cases, its a good idea to use a jacking pad so your jack doesn't end up spanning the jacking point and lifting off the battery pack or sills. This is particularly important if you're using a trolley jack with a cupped or dished lifting point.

    You’ll be happy to know that if a tyre place leaves a puck in you can easily remove it by going over a speed hump. Shears it off quite nicely.

    Thank you. This has motivated me to get round to checking the jacking points on my small EV after 30 months of ownership!

    Holes for jacking has gone smaller on the later Models. A normal jack that you have with you in the car that can take the weight is not easy to find. So just have a air pump to fill the tire if you get a puncture and Tesla has no spare tire anyway

    Great video as always, hopefully you'll consider doing a similar video on the hyundai ioniq, with emphasis on home jacking for tire change. Much appreciated

      I would be interested in the Ioniq too. I’ve jacked up every car I’ve had except my Ioniq 38. So would be good to know👍

    It's good to know where the jacking points are, but where do you put the axle stands!

    What are your thoughts on jacking up the whole side of the car using a single jacking point? E.g to swap wheels front to back etc. I know the chassis is stiff enough to be able to do it, but is it harmful to the battery at all?

      The battery is structural these, as they only have castings on either end. It should be fine, but I know many worry about this. Personally, I would use two jacks just to be safer and not to put too much stress on the vehicle.....if only to stop some sealant cracking.

      @@GoGreenAutos How come you didn't fancy another MS? I can understand why you didnt but good to hear your thoughts

    • @GoGreenAutos
      @GoGreenAutos  Месяц назад +1

      @@TraderJono I would have definitely got another MS, but Tesla were doing an offer at the end of 2023 to transfer your free lifetime supercharging to a new Model S/X/Y. That came just at the right time for me, so I got a new Model Y and transferred my free lifetime supercharging to it. So that dictated the next Tesla.
