@MINOLTA Toyota Dude 36 Agreed. But no, they decided to use the Toyota GT-One's engine sound in that game. But it sounds way worse in Gran Turismo 5 and 6. The C9's engine sound in those games sounds like there's a bug in my ear.
Wouldn't it be awesome if Group C racing made a comeback just for a year, to actually race these beasts once again?. For the love of god I hope onde day it will happen
The Saber C9 hit 247mph at the end of the straight-away at Lemans in 1989. Lemans then added a chicane at the end to shorten it and slow the C9 top speed! The engine is the legendary 5.0L v8 MBenz 4 valve/cyl, double overhead cam model M119 which was fitted with two large turbos for Group C racing. Sauber was so fast, he then fitted a v12 instead of the v8; result was he was never as fast! The M119 was installed in the 1991-1997 r129 MB 500SL and in the MB w140 S-class series sedans and CL500 coupes, until their last year of 1999. A few more hp in the earlier versions. I have a '99 CL500, which was very advanced and over-engineered for its time- even by MB standards...lovely, fast (top speed of 250km=156mph) quiet cars.
Why does everyone only remember this car for having a high top speed? It achieved so much more that that. It won all but one race in 1989 and that included Le Mans. It was both fast and reliable. It was good both in the wet and in the dry. But the only thing anyone talks about is the gee whizz top speed...??????
ThirdMan: You are quite right. It was an incredible vehicle for its time and even today. Ironically and younger group of MB engineers later campaigned a similar car, which frankly was not as capable as the C9. Even more ironically they did not use the purity of the balance of the aerodynamics of the C9 body design, and they too "flew" the car, as did early C9's, due to its very high speeds; there are many RUclips videos of that car taking off in flight! Early C9's blew tires, due to "too high" downforce, at its unheard of for the time, high speeds. The final successful C9 you reference had reached a critical mass of many factors, which lead to its great success; great drivers did not hurt either. However, I am inclined to give a lot of the credit to the M119 engine, which made incredible, stable, durable power. Reports I have read indicate that the M119 showed little wear, after running at full power for the duration of a race. She could make 900hp on the dyno, but was detuned to 750hp or so for racing. Few engines are that durable. It is a delicate balance of valve trains, valve sizing, etc. Valves must avoid shrouding, in which the valve sizes increase to the point that they do not flow gasses efficiently, which is a delicate balance; and so many elements. Also, I have read that the MB engineers felt it required too much engineering effort to dumb down the manufacturing of the M119 for production cars, such that the M119 in road cars was essentially the same as the racing block, minus the turbos and the wild cams and valves. So anyone purchasing the E500/W124, the S500/W140, or the SL500/R129[91-97], get the racing engine block. Some surfaces are so finely machined that no gaskets are present; maybe she has O-rings- I cannot say. Off topic an little, but I owned an SL500/R129, but with the M113, of similar hp. Not screaming fast off the line, but more that plenty quick on the road- German HP! The '97 R129 was the last year with the M119 engine, but first year for the 5-speed electronic transmission. Prior R129's had the 4-spd hydraulic transmission. My wife made me sell it, getting ready for retirement. Wouldn't mind one again.
_"She could make 900hp on the dyno, but was detuned to 750hp or so for racing."_ The engine was tuned for the best combination of power and fuel economy because Group C was a fuel allocation formula. That meant that huge power outputs were not the aim. The aim was to get the most energy out of every drop of fuel. That's why there were so many different engines in Group C. The M119 in race form didn't even have a flat plane crank. The turbos were also relatively small and this combination of medium-large capacity, medium-small turbos and relatively low state of tune was said to be one of the reasons the car was so successful. Another was the fact that it was basically bulletproof. They blew one engine in about four years and by the time the car was retired from competition, they hadn't broken a gearbox in nearly five years. _That_ is reliability. On top of that, they almost always had drivers who were quick and didn't crash. But again, these figures don't even begin to tell the story of the C9 or the Mercedes-Benz C11 which followed it.
That's actually a bit of a myth. Great as the 917 was, the claims for its top speed seem to centre around extrapolations from gearing and revs. The highest _measured_ speed ver recorded for a 917LH at Le Mans was 362 km/h. www.mulsannescorner.com/maxspeed.htm If you factor in a tyre slip of 1.1 the claims match almost exactly.

Jose Morales With turbos, especially the larger ones, they have lag. That basically means that a specific portion of the gear you’re on will explode with power. It’s fast, but hard to drive as you need to anticipate it. With the Sauber C9 you don’t get this as much, meaning it’s much smoother in its power. This makes it easier to drive.
@@anthonyhauser3467 the turbos are not big for the application, and the torque spread is very wide so the car is easy to drive. @@hertzwave8001 not really. Its a bit muffled. Play project cars 2. D engine sounds are accurate and clearer. Forza sounds are good but not realistic. Some of the cars sound exactly the same 🤷♂️. Thats the only problem i have with forza
I'm talking about the C9 specifically, most of the other sound need alot of work, but the C9 in FM7 is one of the exceptional ones.
@@hertzwave8001 it aite. But compared to project cars 2. U feel like you're inside the car. The driving is horrible but the engine sounds 👍. Use the c9 in project cars 2. You'd instantly feel the difference
fak shitlectric-this is proper V8

a nascar engine on steroid + the body of a top model gives this
yeah I was going to say how much boost I run 70 percent lol
I wonder how this car matches up against a Zonda R!
Would smoke it mate.
It would eat it whole and shit out a Prius...
Well it has inferior aerodynamics and a 5 speed so the Zonda R would take it in the corners, however on the straight later bo to the zonder.
SuperWesty177 The sauber c9 weights 905kg and the pagani weights 1250kg also the sauber has stiffer suspension and is lower so it would smoke the zonda in all situations.
Adam West Good point's but it's all down to the aerodynamics and the technology of the suspension. But hey I'd love to see these cars actually race put our theories to the text.
A shame that C9 isn't Premium in GT5
colinL but it is in the fucking GT6!
If Satan was a car this would be it.
Don't forget tyres ;-)
C9 body made from aluminium..
C11 body made from carbon fibre..
Both are using the same v8 twin turbo sound
But c11 is lighter than c9 only..and I want anyone of them i want to fill that erge of me..realy so....
It does in Forza 4 ;p
