Those GT3 cars are notorious for having specially build engines that can produce the necessary amount of torque to carry the massive balls of steels of their drivers

@Kevin P Try driving like these guys on a game like Assetto Corsa or Project Cars 2 and you'll be all over the track.

Both amazing drivers but man the Audi driver is incredible. He was under pressure the whole time and didn't give up.

The suspension on these cars is simply incredible there where moments where i was certain that there was going to be loss of traction that would manifest itself but the audi stayed glued to the tarmac like it owed it money ... The way these cars where just moving in the frame didn't even look real, in the blink of an eye it would shift into the line cornering into the apex with incredible precision ... truly nail biting moments and absolutely stellar driving from both parties.

If you compare the two videos you can see the Porsche is way faster on the straights and way slower in the corners, leading to a similar lap time because the Nordschleife has plenty of both track situations. GT3 cars still have a bit faster lap time I think. They are also limited by race class regulations. On a track with more straights, the Porsche would beat them, on a track with greater focus on corners, the GT3s would win. Still, mega impressive for the road legal Porsche. I think its destined to become a proper GT3 race car, with some big ass aero on it and proper weight reduction as well as race brakes.

These two are obviously highly skilled Nurb vets. That's a pretty breakneck pace and the Benz might as well have been pinned to the back of that Audi. Great show, fellas!

Really? I’ve just gotten into sim racing and I find the Nurburgring so difficult to remember all the turns. Other tracks like spa Suzuka etc came easy to me
@@daviddickson7253 It's all about pleasure. I find other tracks boring so I can never memorize them. But the Nürburgring is the most fun track for me.
@@daviddickson7253 this is 5 months old but what i find helpful is giving every turn a name. Then it's like a sequence of names in your head. Much easier to remember that way

The amg driver more though, could have gone through the Audi over and over again, even when deliberatively choosing the wrong line to show himself in the Audi mirrors, like in Bergwerk

like you know this? If he could have he would. Even on the long straight they were neck and neck and he didn't. Both cars proved pretty even to me.
Pranith Mugi this is the 24 hours of Nürburgring... Being overly aggressive for one lap is a no-no: these guys have to keep the car damage free and running for so long that it's optimal to just stick behind somebody at nearly your pace than risk it all

There is always that one AI in every racing game that does your head in tryna overtake him
There’s one in gta where if you end up somehow getting in front it will push you faster and try to catch up faster and faster
Super expert ai mode.
How this has escaped my feed for years is a mystery. I’ll come back to this again and again as long as RUclips exists.

Probably my Favourite race footage on the ring. Both amazing cars and both highly skilled drivers going at it. Watched this video many times over the years.
that final straightaway was epic as was the entire lap. Fantastic racing.
It was a fantastic drive from the Merc but my props go to the Audi for holding under pressure with the Merc on his tail.
He never gave up, and fought right to the very last corner, and that's what it's all about.
I think it's way harder sticking to the rear bumper of a car in front as the merc driver did there!

@Mario Lisa there are some for sale on racecarsdirect.com and the most expensive one is 390K $, the cheapest is 285K £ so they're actually cheaper. And there's also an R8 GT3 EVO for even less than the Merc, 255K €.

You're damn right. I've learned to stick behind the car infront of you until you get to use the slipstream on the touristfahrten-entry straight. Passing on the GP part of the track is quite possible tho.

I think the GT3 driver didn't brake at all, it was just that the Audi driver a left turn was ahead, he was closer to the curve, got out faster and overtook the GT3

Audi had top speed but the Merc had torque. The Merc got into the slip and passed but eventually the Audi came back except the hill gave the Merc the advantage until they went over..... Brilliant stuff.

That R8 is very good on straights but the AMG seems to catch up on it at the corners. Absolute brilliant driving. Best on-board action in along time.

It's even crazier when you realize that this video is 6:47 min long and they make whole lap, while the fastest production car lap on Nurburgring is 6.44.98 (Aventador SV).

Mark GT3 cars are extreme safe, nearly all crashes in this class without dead people on this track.. With an old 962 its more dangerous.
yeah the track is terrifying with no runnoff, youd want to be pretty confident with the corners and the car before attempting those speeds

It's bad ass no doubt, but the Corvette, the Ford Mustang GT350R, the GT, the Hellcat, and so on are incredible vehicles..... the AMG GT3 is just so special though.

Better than any opening race from a video game. When you know the driver in front of you is top class, you can frive nose to back, without using much braking as at the end.

It's pretty hard to be the second car and not tunnel vision on the car in front of you, even if there's a car in front of you, your mind needs to be on the track, not on the car ahead. Props to the AMG
Yea on some corners he peeks out just a bit the see braking points and turn in ..that helps to stey close and avoids tunnel vision like you said..
