Love this little pistol! It's been my ccw weapon for 4 years now. I use to have the M&P Shield and Kimber Ultra CDP listed on my CCW but just list my P238 now. I replaced the mag springs with Magguts and the 7 round mag now carries 8. I always carry 1 in the chamber so with 9 rounds in this little gun, feel I have enough rounds for self protection. Great gun for those thinking of buying one. I probably have 500 rounds through mine and not 1 jam. Very reliable and easy to carry because of the size. The HD model is slightly heavier than other models but the recoil is minimized due to being a little heavier. This video says it all, thanks!!
I have watched no less than 75 videos regarding the Sig Sauer P238/380. I would have too say, over all, this is the best one yet! Nothing said in this post is false or misleading. If you're looking for those extended, 7 round magazines, I had luck on EBAY. Found a 2 pack for $59, delivered, free shipping from the seller. Normally, those magz go for around $42-$44 each, so, I got a great deal! I jumped on purchasing 1 more at that great price but, recently saw they're still available. The extended magazines not only gives you 7+1 capacity but, also come with a sleeve at the bottom for your pinky finger too wrap around. Add that Hogue grip with the expanded palm swell, ( just like the one in the video) & it takes the shootability & comfort to a whole new level.
The thing with "accuracy" on a pistol is more about how easy it is to shoot well than mechanical accuracy. All modern pistols, clamped in a vise, are likely to exhibit the same basic accuracy. However, some just fit your hand well and come on the target easier - making them easy to shoot well and seem more accurate. For example, I can shoot the Glock 42 better than the Glock 43 just because of the way one fits vs the other. The P238, for such a tiny pistol, seems to fit well.
I own one of these, it is a masterpiece. A brief word on de-cocking: pointing in a safe direction, hold the hammer, pull the trigger, when the hammer releases, immediately release the trigger, this locks the firing pin in case the hammer falls accidently, possibly preventing an unintentional firing.
I just bought a different gun which is single action only...it freaks me out putting it on half cock, but I have to try this method, it sounds way safer----Thanks!
Sig stopped making this particular all stainless steel model back in the 2019, and they say there are no plans to bring it back. It's the best P238 they made, so if you have one, don't sell it because it's value increases every day.
Have had the HD P238 for a few years now and carry it frequently depending on what I am wearing. Hogue grips and the extended mags. Really accurate even out to 15 yards maybe further.
@@ITFDBLA I have the HD CA as well, purchased in 2017. I've heard many people criticize the loaded chamber indicator, but I happen to like it because there is no doubt when the gun is hot.
Thank you for not spending 1/2 of this video telling me this is a "Ladies gun." (I have nothing against Ladies, by the way) I have purchased my own P238 HD for the great quality build of a Sig Sauer & perfect concealment capabilities. I appreciate that you talked about & described this little sweet firearm without injecting & projecting opinions beyond the gun itself.
I have the SAS Model. Very nicely dehorned! I have severe arthritis and this is the easiest semi-auto to rack the slide that I have ever seen. I have other semi-autos, but usually carry my revolvers due to the arthritis issue. This racks so easily that I carry it very often.
Its amazing how accurate these guns r. Also seem built very well as long as we can continue to send them in every 5 yrs. Truthfully I dont see how they made money on these, as many people that send them back.
@@Dave-fs6fj mine has been sent back twice. 1st shot I took the take down pin flew out. Second time just recently was sent back for erratic ejection along with completely destroying the brass
I have the SAS version and really enjoy it. I agree, these little firearms can really shoot compared to most of the pocket size 380's. I think my Sig is a keeper and I carry it about 90% of the time in a pocket holster.
I bought one of these (alloy, not HD) for my wife and a 938 for myself. Hers is running strong, but I sold my 9mm. Currently have a Kahr cw9 that I am very impressed with. Thanks for the video, nice job.
Good Video. One point I want to make is the main spring housing, or "back strap" as you put it is replaceable. Hogue makes many versions in different materials and colors. Hogue also has many grip replacement options for this pistol in various materials and colors.
Excellent video !! I have the Nitron model with Hogue hard wood grips and it functions flawlessly so far, I would recommend it as a conceal carry gun to anyone who wants a pocket carry pistol.
I agree the thicker rubber grips provide better grip than the wood, aluminum, or polymer grips. Hogue makes the Sig rubber grips as well, difference is the ones from Sig have the Sig Sauer logo while the same grip direct from Hogue does not. P238 is my favorite for both carry and fun at the range.
Thank you for bringing this model to my attention. This will be better for controlling the snappiness of the .380, in such a small platform; for my wife. She did not care for the Ruger LCP II at all!
I'm thinking 238. I had someone at local gun shop say he carries 238 due to reliability and recoil and accuracy. I do reload for 45 acp. so could reload after get set up . thank you again. ordering engraved rosewood for sweetie Tues. .
The weight difference between them is about 5oz (HD being heavier). That is about 33% more than the Equinox (15.2oz) but at 20.5 oz the P238HD is still a pretty reasonable weight and will be a bit nicer at the range. The extra weight will help a little bit with felt recoil. That will be a very nice looking gun, enjoy your new Sigs!
Great Vd. was thinking of getting one. As I am a 1911 fan. As well as other pistols. I am a retired Chicago PD OFFICER and looking for a little back up pistol. LOL old habits.
Is it just me or do some of you other guys cringe when you see someone at a local gun shop, shooting range, gun show or on a RUclips video "compare" pistols side by side. CRASH!! BOOM!! BANG!! CRUNCH!! Don't do that, you are fucking up the pistols in question dummies! Every time you clank them together you are adding scratches, nicks and dents! You are marring the finish and causing damage. Just FYI from a fellow gun nut! John
I have the diamond plate model love it very comfortable. ....but! the mag constantly releases when fired then causes failures???? anyone have same probs???
You could have a defective one, but one thing that seems very common on small guns is accidentally pushing the mag release with your grip. It will usually happen when you fire as many people tense their grip up just before pulling the trigger (you aren't supposed to but reality is reality) and it will cause a malfunction when it cycles. So you may want to check to see where your thumb is when you have a solid grip and are just about to fire.
Hammer Striker I had that exact issue. It fired flawlessly in my left hand, but many cycling malfunctions in my right hand. I figured it had to be my grip nudging the mag release. Good to know that's a common issue. Going to have to work on my grip! Nice review, by the way.
Send it back to Sig, they will fix the issue. After research it is a known problem in the community. I bought a brand new P938 from Four Seasons and it was dropping mags out after shooting. Sent it to Sig, they fixed it with about 3 weeks turn around time. Also to note, I have a p238 and have no issues with it.
great video. I reload for my 1911 , 45acp. . would extra weight be cumbersome with this model over equinox. ordering one for my sweetie and myself. keep up with the good work.
Thank-you. Since Sig's models can be confusing, I am wondering which guns you are comparing and want to make sure I have the right info before offering suggestions.. Are you deciding between the 238 HD (this video) and 238 Equinox ? Or are you deciding between the 238 HD and the 938 Equinox we also did a video on ?
+CWB1863 That is a nice looking color combination. Sig has so many varieties of the same gun (22 varieties of this one alone)., makes it easy to find one you like. That rainbow finish they have is pretty cool. As far as the price, its a Sig :-) They are REALLY proud of their guns it seems.
It is a great gun and worth what it costs, it has been reliable and fun to shoot. It would make a great ankle gun. The biggest thing to determine is if "cocked and locked" 1911 style functionality is what you like.
+kmd1234 We are in the process of setting up a dedicated station for doing this and we will be able to drastically improve the lighting once we have that set up.
I really wish this didn't say HD on the front. My mind instantly goes to Harley Davidson. Sorry harley guys, no offense just not my style. Anyone know if it's removable? I have the p238 sport 12 but am looking to add another to the collection.
When just rubbing my finger across it I can feel texture. It feels like it is etched into the slide but I cannot be 100% sure. In all likelihood, attempting to remove it would leave a scar.
Thanks for your response, I've seen some pretty cool polished HD's, but I talked to sig and they told me it's a fine line to walk because of the serial numbers being polished too. looks like I'll just deal with it!
Any way to remove the magazine disconnect on the now called Kalifornia communist compliant model p238HD ... I really like the HD version gun but I don’t want the Kalifornia communist additions
The best concealed carry. Extremely accurate. Had HD model with Hog grip & extended. Mag. Makes perfect fit in hand
