What You Can Get For $1000 In Dominican Republic

  • So this is Dominican Republic Money, and when I use to go to DR and I had money left over I would just leave this money behind, I stopped doing that because I’m coming back. Right now the exchange rate is about for $1 Us dollar you get $53 Pesos, which means I have $2000 peso and in US dollars that would be $37.73.
The way my mind works, is when it comes to money I’m extremely calculated, I even calculate the things I didn’t calculate, its call my just incase money. So for this video, if all you have is $1000 a month and you want to live in DR, I’ll tell you what that gets you.

    1. Average Salary and Middle-Class Salary
-This is extremely important, a lot of people go to places not understand how much money is really worth somewhere else
-Its like someone going from living in Manhattan for $3000 apartment and then going to DR and not realizing that they can live off $3000 for 2-3 months no problem
-So to gauge how much you need to make I always use the People that already live there not that people that are going to move there
    For example, in DR:
-You can get paid anywhere from $12-16k pesos per month and people that make above that usually make very good money
-So to put that Into perspective, that means that $1000 in dr is the like $53k pesos
Which means that’s 3.3 times more than those people
However: if you are an idiot, or if you can afford to live better, you might compare yourself to the rich guy living on a pent house apartment paying 2-4k a month you see
    2. Being on Budget
Understand that you only really have 4 main expenses that are needed and 1 that’s needed but optional
First: Shelter - $16k pesos which is $301 per month
Second: utilities - gas, electricity, internet and phone bill lets say $150 a month
    Third: Groceries - lets $200 a month
Forth: Transportation - gas let's say $200 month
Total: $851 meaning you still have money to save or to spend on health insurance which is super important
    3. The Number One Difference in Cost is going to be This ( do you live with the Locals or with the Rich Locals or people that just want to spend more money )
-Remember there are Big Cost associated with a move like this
-For example you have to save up to Buy a Car, Tickets, and all the stuff in the beginnings
-So although the monthly living cost might be cheap, the actual move might cost 5-10k -depending
Ps. I would never move somewhere without having 3-6 months' worth of expenses just in case

$1000. If you are a single person moving to DR, it's best to rent a studio or a one bedroom apartment. If you live with the locals, your rent might be a$200-$240 per month for a small apartment. Also, there is no need to buy a car in DR, a lot of people drive recklessly over there. Sell everything before you move down there. Just take with you your electronics and two to four suitcases. There is no reason to spend $10.000 on relocating fees. Put that money in a dominican bank account. Live there at least two to three years before buying any property.
Health insurance is a must. Finally, I think it would make life easier for you to have a budget north of $1500.00 per month. You only live once brother so a budget of $2500 would be ideal. But some foreigners make it there on $1200/$1300 per month.

I liked your video very much. Very realistic and informative. Very well calculated. I live in Puerto Plata and my apartment on the second floor has 2 BRs. Balcony with a view of the bay. We sit in the balcony and enjoy the cruiseships coming to Port. One of the taxi companies we take, has mini-bars in the car for a better ride. The view is spectacular from the roof of my apartment. The sky is clear most nights and you can see everything up there. My rent is about $15000 pesos. Don't worry about hurricanes because they get weak by the time they get to Puerto Plata. Love it. BTW, I am a veteran and we have like 4 or more veteran clinics in the area. Thank you.

1000 and nice high level introduction but some things you need to go into deeper especially in the DR, take cellphone service it is not like in the USA, you load your phone with minutes and bandwidth once it is exhausted you need to reload, there is no overcharged to pay, once out you are dead in the water. Also the majority of these $25-350 apts don’t have A/C, Stove,or refrigerators and that cost is on the renter to furnish. So the A/C are wall units, you want to cool the whole apartment think buying multiple a/c units, and lastly make sure the place has hot water, this is not always automatic.

I actually build houses and apartments in DR to rent out, you guys are lucky rent is so cheap, because construction is not, at the rate the rent is out there, it takes 10-20 years to get back the money you invested in building an apartment. so, yeah moving out there if you got dollar is a good ideal, your dollars will go a long way. not only is rent cheap, I find food very cheap also.

Hey tommy ? For you. You work on your computer 95% of the time. How are you going to manage with that dsl Type of internet in DR?

1000. Yeah, IDK. The allure of DR is to live near a beach or have a house on a mountain. I get that you have family and that's awesome, but who wants to live in a little apt far from the beach or cool places to go?

Does this budget also include you need to purchase the car first? I would assume that gas, insurance and car note would be more than 200 a month even in DR. Please elaborate.

Here in DR if you don't want to buy a car you can use uber. And if you want to buy a car, there are cars from $6,000 and up.
Car insurance here is very cheap, the basic one is 45 dollars every year.
Intermediate insurance costs $300. every year.
the best insurance of all costs $600 each year.
