    Why do the government build a tax and tip structure for job economy, but allows employers to violate the stipulation to the course

    Nice tips. I simply use dollars the pesos make my head hurt. Your explanations make sense.

    We noticed that the bus trip from Imbert to Puerto Plata was the same as a dollar USD. We had a stack of single dollars and paid with a dollar each way. A Haitian was on the bus once and gave a 5USD note. The cobrador was not happy so I exchanged it for him.

      Hi, mike and thanks for your comment. It happens sometimes that the drivers and collectors may not have enough change for everyone. But that was a great gesture! Keep it up!

    Can I bring dominican pesos into dominican republic? I am reading that the dominican currency cannot be imported or exported into the country

    • @NittyGrittyTravelers
      @NittyGrittyTravelers  Год назад +1

      That information is incorrect. If you have Dominican pesos you can absolutely bring them with you… the tricky part would be finding Dominican pesos abroad I believe

    Why do they charge 10% for server on bill, but keep themselves, they should take that upon themselves to obtain it! That's a scam to charge with approve entitled to employees, but employers keep@

    I guess as long as the government gets his entitlement, he doesn't care about the people who spill their hard working sweat to accommodate his treasures ! 😮

    Hello! I love you videos, they are very informative! I understand that USD is accepted, but for tipping , are Pesos preferred over the USD? Curious if the staff suffers from the exchange rate from USD to Dominican Pesos. I want to make sure the staff is given what they want. Thank you!

      You can tip in pesos or in US dollars and workers will be happy. You should keep in mind though that most workers probably don't have a savings accounts in US dollars so they will exchange your tip to Dominican pesos anyways and might not do under the most favorable exchange rate... If it's not an inconvenience to you a good idea would be to tip in pesos the amount you would tip in dollars.

    Hi Ari ! I am going to a resort in Punta Cana next weekend. I have to pay my reservation at the hotel, so I am wondering which payment method should I use? Will I lose money if I pay with my U.S. debit card? Should I pay in Dominican pesos? I remember watching one of your videos where you mentioned this, but I cannot find it. Thank you so much!!

    • @NittyGrittyTravelers
      @NittyGrittyTravelers  Год назад +1

      Hola, Linett 🙂 if you pay with a credit or debit card in the DR the charge will be made in pesos (cannot be made in dollars by law) so your bank will convert the pesos to dollars to charge your card. They use a conversion rate that is not so favorable but it’s your only option if paying with a card. You can pay in cash (pesos or dollars) and have more control over the final price, although it’s more expensive to pay with a card, the difference might not be worth the hassle of a cash payment

    Very helpful video, thank you! Would you recommend that I do my USD exchange to Dominican Pesos when I arrive at DR airport or wait until I get the a Dominican Bank? Also, do you recommend I tip my transportation driver in USD or Dominican Pesos?

    • @NittyGrittyTravelers
      @NittyGrittyTravelers  3 года назад +3

      Both the airport and the bank options are the most expensive ones (more so the airport exchange). I would recommend exchanging your dollars at a local exchange (casa de cambio) of which there are many. Although if you're not exchanging a considerable amount the airport exchange should be more hassle free and you get it out of the way the first day.

      Legally it’s the worker’s but it’s a widespread practice to not give it to them... I don’t know why the authorities don’t do something about this!

    You can’t exchange Canadian dollars ? Why

    • @NittyGrittyTravelers
      @NittyGrittyTravelers  11 месяцев назад

      There is just no inventory of physical Canadian Dollars and to deposit them in a bank you would have to take them out of the country.
