  • Many subscribers have asked us to talk about used firearms. The reality is you need to know what to look for. Yet, we've found the used police firearms often provide amazing opportunities to purchase a quality firearm at 40-50% off full retail.
    In this video we discuss one such police trade pistol, a 1st generation M&P 9mm pistol. Our M&P came from the FFL dealer in exceptional condition. It sported a standard capacity magazine, three dot night sights and no discernible wear.
    For those looking for a great deal on a quality pistol, consider used police trades.

    I just updated my slide lock on my police trade in M&P40 to the most updated 1.0 lock. The reset changed night and day. I then added the Smith Performance Center sear, just as good as my 2.0 triggers. Thanks for the video! You are the reason I started my M&P collection back with your gen 1 5" pro.

    I’ve had an original M&P9 since 2014, and I think both the finish and the frame construction are manufactured better than the newer 2.0’s. My M&P9 has a couple thousand rounds through it, and never a malfunction of any kind, with all types of ammunition. Good to hear from you. I’ve purchased several firearms site unseen. As long as they were polymer frame pistols I’ve never had a problem. The reality is most people purchase a firearm and only put a few hundred rounds through it. After a while they want something new or something else so they traded in or sell it. I own several police trades. A couple have holster wear on them but the internal components on all of them are exceptional.
      Holster wear or minor scratches don’t bother me at all. All of my firearms or tools that I use. As such I don’t really care about the way they look as long as they function flawlessly.
      Always good to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and share your feedback. Stay safe.

      There are several online dealers that will ship a firearm to your local FFL. All you have to do is a Google search. The key thing to remember is you might pay a shipping fee and you will pay a transfer fee that is set by your local FFL. I hope this helps.

    I have bought a lot of used guns over the years and one thing that I have learned, only buy used guns from either gun shops or through private party if you know the person well. I have had terrible luck from pawn shops and from some private party sales. Most of the time gun shops inspect their trade-ins and auction purchases so you're more than likely going to get a good gun. I don't buy used guns off of the Internet simply because I cannot inspect them myself.

      Great points. I agree with you. One exception is police trades through a reputable source like AIM or PSA. Glock trades are typically “refurbished “ by the factory and recoil springs and slide stops replaced. Next most cops shoot their pistols extremely rarely. Maybe a couple hundred rounds at qualification each year. Over a five year use most of these pistols have a super low round count. I’ve got found these pistols to be a great deal.

    I don’t see any reason to buy new guns. A very small percentage of gun owners shoot more than a couple boxes of ammo through the gun while they own it. I own a few that get used heavily shooting 100-200 rounds a week. I don’t think you can shoot the barrel out of a CZ, Glock or S&W, change a few springs if you want to but A reasonable quality handgun should shoot 10,000 rounds.

    • @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
      @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC  Год назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Like you have purchased many used firearms most of which have had very few rounds through them.
      Regarding the long-term durability of a quality polymer framed pistols, I Believe your 10,000 round estimate is on the very light end of usage. Most of my M&P pistols that I’ve owned for several years have 25,000+ rounds through them and they’re still providing very good accuracy and exceptional rebibility. I also on a GEN two Glock 19 pistol that had over 50,000 rounds through it. I replace the recoil spring about every 10,000 rounds but other than that pistol is still chugging along and I would feel well protected if that was my only carry gun.
      Thanks again for watching and commenting. Stay safe.

      Thanks for sharing your perspective. I bought many used firearms over the years. I’ve never had issues with them. If they’re made by quality manufacturers most of those manufacturers will warrantee the product and fix what’s not working. Any gun I’m using for self-defense standpoint Hass to go through at least 1000 rounds before I feel it’s trust worthy. So far I’ve been very well served and never worried about the quality and reliability of the guns I purchase.

Lots of Old Eastern European firearms from the 1950s on sale around here I just don't know if I would trust them. The same with used pistols from the Philippines and elsewhere you just don't know if they were at the gun ranges for years and years and used for training withive rounds and how much life remains. It's almost a crapshoot, especially when you order online. But someone with your experience could probably discern how much use of pistol Side by looking at it.

    You know who I think has an adversity to buying used guns? Those that never have. Know what? I get it. There was a time what I wouldn't either. Dinosaurs roamed the earth of course but that's when I first became interested in and began buying guns. You don't know what you don't know. Again, I get it. Buying used guns from a guy behind the counter when you know as a higher percentage what you're doing than not, is a lot less of a gamble than buying used on-line say. I've bought a new handgun once or twice. (OK, maybe 3 times..) But look, there is NO WAY I'm going to get a quality old school Smith revolver with no MIM, a firing pin on the hammer, and no lock unless I buy used. That's just a given. But with respect to these polymer guns? 90% of the one's I've taken in were used. And like is stated in this video, some of them were seldom, seldom fired and more than a few of the Glock pistols still had the Glock gold on them and no carbon on the ramp, and zero hood wear. Nothing. Nada. Case, mags, all the crap that came with it originally, $150.00 to $200.00 off. How am I supposed to walk away from that?
    The best used plastic pistol values ever? I think they're definitely the Smith M&P's. Most lightly used Glock's are going to be $400.00 where I loiter but the M&P's? $299.00 to $329.00 most times and clean as a preacher's bed sheets. Thanks for the video!
    PS, I also sent a Smith revolver back to Smith that I had bought used. Now granted, this was around 10 years ago but the gun itself was a 686 no dash made in 1984 and required the hammer bushing update. Had I known that initially, I wouldn't have bought the gun, exceptional deal or not. However, it turned out to be a non issue. Called up Smith, they sent the shipping tag on their dime, fixed it, sent it back on their dime. 28 years after the fact? God only knows how many guy's owned it before I came along. That one really surprised me.

    • @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
      @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC  Год назад +3

      Sir, you are absolutely right. Most used guns only have a couple hundred rounds through them. Most police trades will have a few more hundred through them but not anything significant. Worst thing you get with the police trade is some holster where or potentially scratches on the frame or slide. Since none of the firearms in my collection are safe queens, I could care less about a few scratches or holster wear. As long as the gun functions reliably and can produce combat effective accuracy it’s a winner in my book.
