You are correct about not many videos on P0026. It a slightly harder job doing the P0026 than the P0028. I am waiting for the VVT to arrive and I am glad I saw this video. It confirmed that what I expected for the job was correct and look forward to doing this job.
Both sensors removal exactly the same, No difficulty difference that I know of, 6-10 in extension deep socket 24 mm 3/8s , unclip the air box as your going to change the air filter. Use the extension and socket pull it out put it in
You are the man! My girlfriends forester is throwing that same code, glad it’s a pretty easy fix. Had trouble finding a video just replacing the solenoid. Really helped me out man, thank you for your video!
Bob's Handyman Services ... So true. I'm a 35 year auto mechanic, but I learn new things on RUclips all the time. It can be very helpful when somebody has already been through a particular problem on a vehicle, and their video can possibly save me time and money.
Thank you for this very informative video.. I’m running this code and the P0301 so I’m excited to get it fixed on my own. For everyone who caught it.. “THATS WHAT SHE SAID” 🤟🏻
Thank you!! I thought my cv boot was leaking but I couldn't find a tear. After checking my oil level and the effected area I'm almost certain the solenoid is leaking everywhere! Again thank you!
Supposedly this is my problem too. I've been chasing oil leaks all year. Valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, rear main o-ring, rear main seal, oil separator and now this. It stopped for a time and then the VVT started leaking like crazy. Hope this fixes it.
Very good video man my forester has same code. It came about in the hiway when i went hunting last week. At the hunt i almost couldnt start my car it was cranking for about 5 secs. Scared the hell out of me although it has not had any rough driving yet i will repkace it today or tomorrow. Double thumd up dude!
wow. great video. thanks. glad i watched till then end and you gave a price for the part, and you touched on p0028, as that is also an issue for me. what exactly do the codes/definition mean in laymen's terms? like, what is happening to the car? can we keep driving it? what will happen in the long run? is it a wear and tear issue? did we do something wrong as to why it needs to get replaced? i've got a 2007 legacy, and the check engine light is on most of the week, and maybe 1-2 days it will go away, then just randomly go on again. i don't find/feel a difference while i'm driving and the light go on and off. i use it for work 5 days a week. the errors are: P0026 - Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 P0028 - Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2 your words of wisdom are appreciated. thank you.
Glad it helped you out. I will be making all kinds of videos, mostly home repair, but when possible I will make more vehicle videos. Keep up the good work.
Francisco, I'm glad my video helped you. This was a problem for my wife's vehicle and when I looked it up on RUclips I couldn't find anything regarding this sensor and so, figured I would make one. I'm happy it helped someone.
Your welcome and honestly I searched for a video to help me and was not able to find anything useful. Upon learning how to do this repair I knew I had to make it a video. Glad it helped you like it helped so many others.
My moms check engine light came on due to this part and as a result of the check engine light being on it also lights up the traction control and cruise control lights
Yes, there are two of these units, but I didn't bother putting up a video for the one on the drivers side because there are tons of videos out there already. Good luck with your project. Please subscribe for more videos like this as well as home improvement videos and daily vlogs.
Why not test the solenoid before removing and replacing it? With this issue it may be the pressure switch or the solenoid and you're just guessing by replacing it. Especially if it is an intermittent issue the CEL may go away and make it appear fixed when it isn't. Edit: This video is excellent for how to replace the part in question and here is a recent video I found that describes the diagnosis as well ruclips.net/video/DGiXu229ttY/видео.html
Honestly I don’t know how to do that I am a home remodeler and handyman not an auto mechanic. When I had this problem with my former wife’s car I could not find any help for it so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to make a video to help others. You should make a video showing people how to test them.
@@BobsHomeServicesLLCThat's a very fair point, thank you for making a video where none existed before! I'll be honest that with this video being from a few years ago I didn't expect you to respond (though I appreciate your active involvement in past videos which is rare) and meant my comment more as a rhetorical question to point out to others that with this CEL code it may not always be necessary to replace the part although your video is an excellent tool for those who do need to replace it and I appreciate the effort you put into making it :) I have edited my first comment with a link to a very recent video that goes through the diagnosis. Thanks again!
@@georgebennett4523 thanks for the helpful convo, gentlemen. i just asked about something similar elsewhere, as my 2007 legacy's check engine light randomly goes on and off, and i don't necessarily notice a difference. it's only be happening for a couple of weeks.
I'm not sure James. I am not a mechanic by trade, but instead a home improvement contractor that made the video because I ran into a similar problem. If you call some auto parts stores you can usually find someone who dabbles in auto repair and they might be able to answer your question more accurately. Anyone else on here know the answer?
Where did you get the replacement part and what brand is it? All the local parts stores are asking over $100 for this part and i am finding plenty online ranging from $20-80$ but none from known brands and not sure if they will be reliable or not.
ammartinez18 i dont know the part # but it may be the oil switch. There one on each side of the engine. Or it could be the solenoid for valve timing, again one each on each side of engine. For me it was the switches.
Anonymous thanks! I actually bought the part on Walmart(took 3 weeks from the hurricane delays) but installed it and changed the oil&filter and now runs great! Awesome video really easy
I applaud you for making this video fabulous, but I'm going to tell you right now that particular part cannot be replaced with any part but a factory Subaru replacement part, or imminent failure will surely arise. Oregon Subaru specialist, I like to share legit when I can.

Would the vvt solenoid still be in the same place (to the left of the engine block) on a 07 subaru outback??

does the P0026 code also throw on the BRAKE and Trac Control lights? i might just have another problem, thanks for the video.

As far as I know it only illuminates when there is a problem with emissions.

For subaru tribeca b9 2007 it is the same ? I have code p0026
Thanks for sharing that with us.
is this a question or a statement?, i have the same code after using seafoam. have you figured it out? i have the same vehicle.
It was a statement I'm pretty sure.
Thanks Bob!
Glad it helped you out
nice job, no bs just right to it
Art, thanks for the compliment and I'm glad this helped you out. Happy Thanksgiving
Is it the same part for both sides?

I got it from either advanced auto or AutoZone and I just bought the cheap model that they had not really sure what brand it was.
Rock Auto has been my goto for car parts! Filters parts by car and model.
I change both of them and it still comes up a p0026 any ideas after that
You have to clear the code with an OBD reader
A lot of time when the error comes on, it's cuz u have low oil. Check oil level and fill as needed.
Did you figure it out
Thank you Bob!
You are very welcome. Thanks for commenting.
Also, I hope this helped you get it fixed.
Can you drive with a VVT code without damaging the engine?
I drove for about 2 weeks before changing it but dont know if its recommended.

Hi, what was the main problem? Apart from the fault code?
My subaru legacy, sometimes the idle is uncontrolled and I am suspecting this vvt valve.
wajaja1000 it was running rough. The idle was rough.
Bob's Handyman Services
THE SAME GOES FOR ME. I WILL CHANGE THAT TO SEE IF IMPROVED
THANKS!!!
wajaja1000 you're welcome and I hope this helps you
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

What happens when it's throwing a p0026 AND p0028?!
great job thanks

Well test the solenoid.
There are two but the other one has a different number
I'm sorry I don't know the part number
thank you
Very welcome, hope it helped.
Great explanation, I bought the part much cheaper, hoping it works.
It’s a 8 mm to take the hose off!
Change the oil before doing this! Shit old oil is what makes this go bad.
I’ve not heard that before
You can use a 3/8 ratchet, don't have to jump to a 1/2 right away. Just saying. Other than that goog video.
The ratchet is a 3/8 drive, it's the socket size I was providing.
That was the socket size
Codes 👏 don't 👏 mean 👏 throw 👏 parts at it .. A Real diagnosis is almost always cheaper than loading the parts cannon.
