  • I'd like to thank each and every one of you who take the time to watch DtC, and am very grateful to everyone who takes more time out of their day to comment. In a perfect world there would be endless time for either Tom or myself to engage with everyone, but alas the world is far from perfect.
    A few helpful tips:
Q: I have a burning question about something in the video! What should I do?!
A; An email sent directly to Tom is the best way to get your question answered, because while he most definitely reads each and every one of your comments, he hasn't quite gotten the hang of replying to them in the comment section, and is not likely to in the foreseeable future. Or ever.
Q: I have a amusing anecdote, scathing criticism, or heartfelt compliment that I deeply need to express and I require / demand / long for a personalized response! What should I do?!
    A: See "A" above.

Again, listening, learning and just fun, my hero in NJ takes the world by storm ;-) I'm not a collector of these items, far from it, but I do appreciate the finesse and knowledge as well as the historic background. So cheers from Europe !

One can only imagine what that General sword must be worth, especially that Goring himself presented it to the generals. How much folks??

Trivia regarding your 2nd Reich sword's owner: in German, the naval rank "Kapitan Leutnant" was abbreviated as "Kaleun" in spoken dialogue. "Ja, Herr Kaleun!"

Funny he didnt show the tip of the luftwaffe generals sword on the side of the goring panel. I had that sword in my hands about 3 days before he did. The son of the vet used it to play pirate. The nicks were very apparent and could easy been seen across the room. There was multiple nicks. Most of them were towards the tip. Which wasnt shown. Tom did a hell of a job cleaning up the generals sword and the Austrian sa. They didnt shine like that when I looked at them.

At about 2:23 there was a plain arm band, I believe it is a War Games Umpire band. Great video.

A sidenote from Germany. In our language the word would be written Generalsdegen. Degen is the umbrella term for rapier/ smallsword/ fencing epee/ duelling epee.

A good white back Tom made an offhand comment about '... not knowing what is in these boxes ,there could even be a dead chicken for all I know' and around three months later one of his mates played the joke on him by sending the chicken you see on the wall, however there was never a mention of the comment made several months earlier.

@@rogerdee.926 you are correct.Tom seemed surprised when he unboxed it, i did see that, I did not hear his earlier comment. That explains that not the van Gogh 6" left of the chicken. ✌

Did the video get edited and a bit cut out at around 33:00? Tom starts talking about another Rohm straight after showing the 4 RLBs, which suggests we missed seeing a Rohm?

    • @j.s.1547

Sure seemed that way to me, most unusual bit of editing on their part.

Shooting association cutlass? This is a socalled ,Hirschfänger'. Before 1848, Revolution attemts in nearly every german state, only noblemen, forrest officers or professional hunters could wear such a weapon. In german hunters language there is still a difference between ,Hochwild'( high game), in HRE time only noblemen could hunt, and ,Niederwild' ( low game), which once in HRE also commoners with hunting allownes could hunt. The weapon was intended to give wounded game final stab, or in parforce hunt with dog packs, the dogs caught the annimal, and the hunters killed it with Hirschfänger or boarspear. After 1848 every hunter was allowed to own a Hirschfänger, and the Forrest officials got standardized models. Today german hunters use this ,old style' Hirschfänger only for ceremonies.
