    Combining two pillows seems to better provide both support, and contouring - like a pillow you'd use at home. I'm kind of surprised that no manufacturers have figured this out yet and made a pillow with two separate air cells like this concept you've created - just wrapped inside one 'luxury' cover to create a product which provides more adjustability and comfort. Thanks for sharing this cool idea with us.

      That would be awesome if someone made that! Like where you are headed with that idea for sure. About as much customization with firm / soft micro adjustments you can have with a backpacking pillow, plus a backup air cell in case you accidentally burst one.
      I’ve also like knowing I can split my pillow for a while if my knees or back is hurting, I can pop one half between my knees for some joint relief on a side sleep. And that ability to lock in your arm between the halves so I can control exactly where my pillow is and it won’t sneak away…that was amazing in the Sequoias trip!
      If someone could create the design as you suggest, and get a little more rational on the price tag, could be a big hit.
      Thanks for checking out the video, glad you enjoyed :)

    I've recently bought one, I used it in anger this weekend just gone. I sleep on my front with one arm under my pillow, I didn't inflate it to maximum and found the height/comfort perfect for me personally, so if you sleep on your front, and struggle to sleep with other pillows, I'd say it's worth the money.

      @zacmagers  8 месяцев назад +1

      That’s an interesting point I’m glad you mentioned this! If you are a front sleeper ( which is often overlooked in backpacking reviews of sleep systems ) you definitely don’t want something super thick or your neck is in for a hurting! Actually seems like the perfect pillow for a front sleeper, and sometimes perfect sleep cost $$.
      Thanks for checking out the video and I’m glad your pillow is working out well for you :) Awesome

      As a front sleeper with one arm under my pillow, I use the Nemo Fillo King with very little air in it. The added foam cushion on the King makes it silent and I don’t feel like my ear is on a zip lock bag.

    Thorough and helpful review as always Zac! Nice work...
    I think a lot of people have made it part of the purchasing process to find something, look at the rating, and then jump onto RUclips for a reviews. Everything from video games, to portable AC units, to camping gear.
    Keep it up brother!!

      That’s why I’m here!
      Online reviews are so sketchy : Paid or incentivized reviews, people that misunderstand how to use the product, just straight angry folks.
      You are totally right tho, getting a live review is much better! Even if they do ramble on…. the more info the better!

    Ive just bought this.
    My new sleep system.
    Big Agnes Rapide SL 25x76, RAB ascent 700 with this nemo pillow, cant wait to test it all.

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  9 месяцев назад +2

      You are most likely going to really enjoy that Rapide SL! The first time I tried it I think I had it a little over inflated. Second night it was just perfect. Those raised ridges along the sides may not look like much but they totally help!
      Good luck on your testing trip, I hope all your new gear works out amazing:)

      @samimurtomaki5534 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah the rapide SL is great for me when inflated to a level where if all my weight is on my seat it'l touch the ground. It did had a small manufacturing defect in its lamination, and I'm waiting to receive an email that they have send me a new one. I'm gettin a bit conserned as there have been silence after they received a new patch that is "upgraded" they promised a same pad. Hope I finally get one and it's not worse.

    I appreciate you telling us you don’t recommend two pillows but you failed. I’m convinced. And I thought I was dialed in on expensive gear.

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  9 месяцев назад

      Ha I would feel terrible recommending someone should venture a $140 deep into a pillow system but man...having that Velcro two pillow system was amazing in the Sequoias ! Ill never get to experience the night time wondering pillow dilemma unless I let it happen on purpose, shame.
      If this pillow was 5" I feel like that would help some of them negative reviews tho...

    I can’t decide between a fillo, fillo elite or the zenbivy soft top pillow. They’re all on the pricy side so it’s not really practical for me to buy and try for comparison. I see that you have the zenbizy bag- what are the chances you can help me out here?

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  18 дней назад

      Hello there Paige:) If I’m understanding what you are asking, you are looking for some other options here. I actually haven’t tested out anything else except the Nemo Elite, tho I plan to do so. But I did a ton of research over a year and I found that it was super common for backpackers to go with the Thermarest Compressible Pillow. It’s a reasonable price range, looks soft enough, light enough, washable, all good things. I do have a concern about how lumpy it may feel but I’d really need to try it out.
      If you ever do go with the any of the Zenbivy pillows let me know…my curiosity is on those right now for sure !
      Cheers

    How unpractical that mod might be in this case, two chamber structure like that is somethin I'd like to see more straight from the manufacturers.

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for checking out the vid! When I assembled this, even in making the whole video, it honestly never occurred to me there may be a practical use demand space for a double chamber pillow. Another comment was also left regarding the same potential for demand. Im highly tempted to explore that...we are talking plastic and a pillow case. The inflation port, testing and marketing would be the real beast here. Might be easier to license out.
      For my simple contraption, the weight is an issue, and of course cost is beyond unreasonable. The real practicalities for me is being able to capture my arm for pillow position control as I toss around at least 1-2 times an hour, and side sleep comfort ends up being better as a result. You are typically already in a tighter space as it is, so having my arm locked in by the velcro connections was just one less thing I had to worry about controlling or resetting a lot through the night. I can turn over, put my arm through the center, reset, let my arm muscles totally relax and know my arm wont slip away, and neither will the pillow.
      What price tag would you want to see on a double chamber pillow solution?
      There may be an open pillow market for using more sustainability focused manufacturing and materials...

    • @samimurtomaki5534
      @samimurtomaki5534 9 месяцев назад

      I'm starting to get ideas. Im currently not in a market to get a new pillow, and I'm more likely to make some kind of modifications to things I already own. Pricepount of that pillow is too high as I see it, but atleast it is not made in China that i have issues with in so many ways, even when it is an quality item.

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  9 месяцев назад +2

      I agree the price point is way too high.
      There doesn’t seem to be a major sustainability effort cost rolled into pillows, at least with Nemo and Thermarest, so all I can put together is we are paying for brand, R&D, and the large companies operating cost coverages.
      From what I can tell, this pillow from Nemo seems to manufactured in Taiwan, hopefully it’s done so using fair trade practices but I don’t find any evidence of that.
      If I was make a pillow in the US or CAN, it’s certainly doable but plastics and fabrics manufacturing is more expensive, so folks would have to get behind that.
      We aren’t talking more than a few dollars tho.

    I have quite a few pillows from my search for a good one. This one is way too expensive, felt robbed on this one. The Nemo Fillo Elite Pillow is definitely too thin for me, I toss and turn and it doesn’t have enough support. The air up valve is such a pain in the ass, the worst one I’ve used. The fabric feels just fine but it still feels like sleeping on a balloon to me as all the air pillows I’ve tried. Not worth it at all in my opinion. I finally broke down and got a Med. Thermarest Cinch on sale and it’s my favorite now, I wish I would have gotten it first, well worth the extra weight/space. Great review by the way.

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  9 месяцев назад +1

      The Thermarest Cinch was literally the first pillow I ever saw when I started my research over a year ago. Looks like a great pillow, and more like the price tag you'd want to see... Im glad you found exactly what works best for you, and on sale!
      I tried really hard to leave my comfort level experience out of this video because I feel like a pillow is one of the top subjective comfort backpacking items you can get, but I felt pretty justified in cautioning new backpackers as to what you get specification wise for that hard earned $70
      Thanks for checking out the video glad you liked it!
      Cheers

    • @zacmagers
      @zacmagers  9 месяцев назад +1

      Howdy! And thank you for the comment, you are absolutely correct that these types if things cant typically be tested in someones living room for sure. I wanted to capture the sound with a mic for demonstration but certainly a real world test can have different results.
      I think in that moment while filming I was relying on my confidence in having used the pillow over the year and experiencing no crinkling, at least in my personal experience, and did an impromptu demonstration knowing it wasn't going to be very noisy. At least to the point the individual claimed in their comment. When I think of crinkling in the backpacking equipment world I think of a Thermarest pad for example. Now thats some serious crinkle!
      Anyways I really appreciate this comment, its a reminder to be more thorough in my content and to dig into details better, so thank you :)
      Have a great day!
