  • @NoahRutjes
    @NoahRutjes 6 месяцев назад

    wouldn't it have been a lot easier to just start with a cylinder then add a subdivision surface modifier and go from there? I'm still new to blender tho so idk

    • @Dylan-go5iv
      @Dylan-go5iv 4 месяца назад +2

      The reason this would be a challenge is because it's a radial repeating pattern that doesn't do the same thing on every vertex. Would be pretty tedious to start with a cylinder and create a hexagonal pattern like this and make sure it's the same on all 6 sides.
      So instead, you're seeing a very trimmed down version of the full process involving radial modeling, in which you model 1/6 of the model and then repeat that section in a circle until it meets up into itself.
      Hopefully that makes sense. It's kind of a simple concept once you get what's going on, but it's a little wordy to explain.

    You fail, you have T-verts and all your points converge into n-verts in the back. Also non-quads. Avoid Kites at all costs, very rarely are they ever acceptable.

    • @ItsVentane
      @ItsVentane Год назад

      How are you going to model such shape without any poles? There's literally no way to make an perfect grid topology here. Even a basic cube has T-verts
      Poles are used very oftenly when you need to redirect edge flow.
      For example characters, they mostly have loops around eyes, mouth etc and theres very much poles there.
      Also about the non-quads on the back: He added hold loops around the edge, so it'll be completely fine after subdiv is applied

    • @KojiKamori
      @KojiKamori Год назад

      @@ItsVentane Albeit I did say T-poles and Kites should be avoided, they are used when you have curved surfaces, but in the case of reducing geometry that should be ill advised. They will stop the flow of geometry and you also risk the death spiral. This is geometry looping back in of itself. Like a cork screw. Check out the link in the other comment for more information.

    • @KojiKamori
      @KojiKamori 11 месяцев назад

      @@ItsVentane I have responded to your comment and RUclips decided that it was spam and deceptive practices. Whew lad. I suppose you can't link out to any other website other than youtube or something. Bogus. Anyway I suppose I have to make a response video, perhaps a link to that would suffice enough to show how the topology can be cleaned up. Earlier I had linked to IMGUR where I posted pictures and also linked to TurboSquid's CheckMate checklist. Checkmate is an industry standard to gauging the quality of a model. Turbosquid is a subsidiary of shutterstock. I linked to that site as it shows the big issues with topology, like T-verts, and poles more than 6 and how it creates problems. It also breaks down each program, like Blender, and 3ds Max and how to use its own tools to correct such errors. A very good site, but apparently youtube doesn't like you to link out to other sites. So I suggest you google it instead, which is also the parent of RUclips. You try to help a fella out and youtube's algorithms want to be a pain in the rear.
