I own a 22 RT. For a long time i did have the same problem. About a month ago, i deleted the app and reinstalled it. Ever since I reinstalled the app, i have had no issues connecting or staying connected as long as i ride (including multiple stops). It takes under 1 minute to complete the whole process of connection. In the past, when the map broadcast sign was looking to connect, i hit the radio button (programed 4 buttons), and then the navigation button, (programed as well) and immediately it would connect and display map and directions. Try deleting and reinstalling the app and I am sure you will be done with this issue. I would rather use the dash display as it is bigger and easier to operate while riding (no need to come off the handle bar), to see the upcoming turns and judge how sharp they are/how fast to enter it. Good luck P.S if that does not solve your connection issues after reinstalling the app, try hitting the radio and then Nav buttons in this order. Also, make sure your Wi-Fi and GPS are enabled on your phone b4 you start the bike.
Thanks, yea, that's a typo that got by my audit person, she should be fired for letting that get out but since she sleeps with me, I don't think that's going to happen 🤣🤣
I have a Chigee lite and an older RT (2011) but hoping to upgrade to the 21 (or later) soon. I will be moving my Chigee over. A neat install option is a RAM base plate between the TFT and screen, then an arm and then the Chigee just above the TFT where you have the front camera. I'd then have the front camera on the small plastic plate behind the small clear wind deflectors (Although if there's room for the camera and RAM plate it would be ideal, I think you'd have space). I ride using the rear camera as a mirror when not using maps so the closer to my eye line the better

I would prefer the AIO-5 BMW version because of the seamless integration with the bike and the access to all the bike’s information, even though that version doesn’t have the cameras.
Yep, same for me. I’m using the Nav VI (no issues), and mostly toggle between map (20%) and bike-data (80%) screen mode. I’m running REVER on the phone. IF the AIO came out with cameras AND the BMW wheel tie-in, I’d consider spending the money to replace the Nav VI.
Google maps / Apple Maps is fine if you’re just riding major routes and have good mobile coverage, but if you want to load a gpx file or choose paths less travelled you really need a stand alone unit.
Finally, this is the first video that I’ve watched with the Chigee and the 10.25 inch TFT like I have on my ‘23 GT. I’ve been struggling for years with my NAV 6 and with the Connected App. I put a lot of miles on every year, this year I did 12k kms in Europe (I leave one there), 5.8K kms in Africa (rental) and 13k kms on my GT between British Columbia and Texas. My Nav 6 had the same problems as everyone else’s except I don’t want it to freeze and stop working as I descending down an Italian mountain side and I need to know do I make a left or right at the dead end coming up. So disappointed in the Connected App I had my NAV 6 mounted on my GT similar to your RT in fact. Still having problems even with the final revised NAV 6. I am ready to try something like the Chigee and was really liking what I saw here until I saw that it is not removable. The BMW version doesn’t have the cameras which I would like. Oh, these pleasure problems! Question: are you able to use Google Assistant to control your mapping software? BTW, I rode through your area last year as I rode up to Norway.
Why BMW, Ducati and KTM are not using apple car play is beyond me. Connectivity through a proprietary app is nothing but a nightmare, I use Garmin's Zumo on my 21 Multistrada without issue.
I don't even bother connecting my phone to my 2023 RT anymore. I use a Zumo XT, and go out, and ride. BMW needs to partner back up with Garmin and make the TFT a GPS based navigation, and not off your phone.
Thanks for the sample videos, I don't know if it is a RUclips compression but it seems that the video is unusable if you would need to read registration plates details. I guess 4K res would do it.
I have the Carpuride W603D (6.5 inch) installed on my R18 100 yrs edition and the borders are smaller than chigee. Also, its half the price. The mount is very clean too and folks thinks it came with the bike!
Been seeing a lot of good reviews about the Chigee. I am very tempted to get the AIO-5 BMW for my 2018 K1600. I recently purchased the motorcycle for long distance traveling. In the meantime I got one of those phone mounts that go in the K1600 GPS spot. Downside is even being as tall as I am (6'2") it is a reach when on the bike to make adjustments on my phone. Plus my phone does not like summers in the desert where I live. 😀
I actually changed my 2022 RT for A Ducati Multistrada rally, all because of the connectivity problems, the sat nav was the best I’ve ever had apart that issue, real shame as I loved that bike ,
Too much of my already distracted focus is required to become adept with the latest version electronic device. What I find completely illogical, is what we achieve with distraction devices. I do use a Garmin - specifically to aid my finding point B in the safest manner I can create. To each - more good to you in finding solutions - and not a wreck.
The BMW should come with apple carplay standard. I am wondering how the AIO-5 Lite would deal with summer (heat) and its brightness. Ass my phones brightness dims way to far to be able to read it in the heat of the summer
Done 400 km on my new RT love it. Figured out I disabled auto connect to my headset from phone and only set it up to connect between phone and RT same with WiFi and it works OK however I run a HUD from Tilsberk and use calimoto on my other bike and still want to use that. Shame the RT don't run android auto. My question is why not use the mobile instead of the unit you added obviously I get it about the front and rear camera but if that's excluded just using the mobile should do the trick right?
Well, yes and no, I've had smartphones shut off due to being too hot in the sun while mounted to handlebar and also while in my chest pocket of my jacket (even in northern Germany), which then of course the navi on the RT does not work. But each time this happens, I then put the phone in the RT's smartphone compartment and it cools down and works. Plus the smartphone was never designed for being exposed to the elements of a motorcycle environment & take that kind of punishment. Inside a car sure but now hold the phone out the window of a car, that is what we are doing when it's mounted to the handlebar of a motorcycle. If you exchange your phone every year or two that's ok (because the next guy that inherits the phone has the problems) but if your are like me I keep them for a long time & that kind of punishment adds up over time and the phone eventually starts to fail, this is what has happened to 2 of my past smartphones, they just gave up the ghost after about 2-3 seasons of being mounted the handle bar. Glad you like the RT, it's a great bike, I love mine. Take care, Scott
1. Nope, no problem 2. OEM's are allowed to be over but will be fined for being at or under. So usually they are from the factory with factory tires 2.5 to 6% over. so if you do the math, that's about right.
Hi Scott, My wife goes on the backseat of the bike with her mobile and tells me all he directions by the intercom helmets connection . She loves the job and I just focus on riding the bike which is what I like to do!😂

Thanks for another video on the RT. I'm still considering buying this bike, but the problems with connecting my phone to the bike, the pocket for my phone being too small, and having to hold my phone with the screen unlocked all the time are seriously putting me off. The new RT 1300 will probably have Android Auto, and I wonder if that will solve the problems or if it will be just as bad.
Terrific video…. I have the same exact bike and year. My only real issue is I need to turn off my Apple Watch , if I don’t my mapping disconnects a few minutes later and can be extremely annoying. I generally have no other issues with my GPS SIGNAL.
My BMW Connected still has a lot of connectivity issues and takes FOREVER to connect properly on my F900XR, in as so much as it delays me getting going to ensure I have ride tracking and active mapping. As well, when the phone is disconnected in areas with no cellular, the Connected App will refuse to work until cellular data is re-established. Probably the only thing that I really dislike about my BMW bike when it's not working. Sometimes redoing the connection to the bike will get it to work when it refuses to connect at times. Generally , I give it 2 to 3 min to get connected for BMW Connected, which is CRAZY STUPID. Thanks for the review on the Chigee!
I have the exact same issue on my 2022 K1600GT. I use an iPhone 13 Pro Max. No reason to need cellular connection to stay connected and use navigation. All modern phones have GPS chipsets.
BMW continues to struggle with BT connectivity issues. Had too many touch screen issues with my Nav VI, then with the Connected Ride Cradle (& App). Put a Zumo XT2 on instead and it's been problem free.
I can't understand why I would buy a fully equipped motorcycle for 27,000 euros and then connect an external navigation device because BMW sold its own junk and didn't have Apple Car Play or Android Auto. These constant electronic failures annoyed me so much that I sold my brand new 2023 RT after 6 months. Even though I really liked the motorcycle.
Thanks Scott appreciate the video….. would you have the wiring diagram for the numbers on those cables for the R1250RT patch plug, I got this today but dose not show what the power aux or the neg for the cables…. Any help would be appreciated thanks…
01 is negative 02 Aux (edit: you have to connect this or the Chigee won't power-up) 03 positive I go over what to plug and where in this video...if your interested just to make sure. ruclips.net/video/MjZw_kBTdbU/видео.html Hope this helps, good luck, Scott
On my 2022 R1250RT, I need to manually connect to the Wi-Fi Network "2W-Wifi-64:05:e4:6b:9b:a8" which pops up on my phone and requires you to press the "Join" button. I need to do this every time I start the bike; such a hassle. I swear, if this bike wasn't as good as it is, I would trade it in because their proprietary app is just awful. Shame on BMW for not giving us the option to use Apple play after spending over US$25K on this bike. OK, I'm done venting.
Good advice! Also select “Ask to Join Networks” to OFF, and select “Auto-Join Hotspot” to NEVER. With these selections my 2022 RT never loses connection. Good luck!
My buddy got a software update at our bmw dealer a couple days ago and said his connection seems better. I’ll know when he returns from the Barber Vintage Fest road trip this weekend. You’d think they’d get it right before selling it. It’s too frustrating. 🤬🤬🤬
Same problem until I realised it was still connected to my home WiFi. I turned off auto connect to my home wifi, flicked wifi off and on when I go to my garage and the problem disappeared. Not ideal in that now I have to manually reconnect to home, but, there we are.
4:53 I sometimes have the exact same issue on my 2023 BMW K1600GT, go to the main screen and back fixes this. I love BMW motorbikes, but the reliability of the connected app is just horrible… Every larger trip (and I do a lot of those) it happens multiple times a day that the connection drops in such a way that I have to reboot the bike. I.e. stop turn off wait and turn the bike back on again. Which in itself renders the entire solution worthless imho. PLEASE bmw, move to actual onboard navigation (like you do on cars!)
BMW Motorad have not yet realised that they are not a software company, although mine has been fairly reliable, there is a whole routine I have to go through to make sure it works each time you start and stop the bike. There is a high degree of f**kwittery with it!
My bike is a 22 year old K1600GT LCD model. If I pair Senak1600gtmobile phoneaio in that order... will the aio sound be output well through the Sena bike speakers? Also, I'm curious about whether the Wonder Wheel can be used to adjust the volume when skipping songs.
I had a similar problem on my Goldwing for all the years I had it. Late last year I used another device, CarlinkIT, with some custom settings from a RUclipsr that made it work more consistently, but still not perfect. These things should just work, or don’t put them on the bike!
My EOY 2022 RT connected app navi is reliable enough to keep using. If adding this solution, I would get a bracket for placing it dead center on the handlebar. Must be my ocd.
The BMW app is more trouble than its worth ! Just use a nave 6 or a Garmin xt mire reliable as for apps on your phone no not for me either ! Thankfully its up to you what you use
The issue that I have with google maps, is that it only works when you have cellular connectivity. With a satellite map that isn’t an issue. I use a Garmin GPS and the BMW app for a backup. However if there’s an app that can be downloaded to work without cellular connection that would work.
I overcame that with the MyRoute/MRA Route Planner App. It lets you download maps AND your route. Your phone’s GPS works the Nav directions. If you’re offline and make changes to your route, the changes will sync up when you get back online.
Both devices start extremely slowly, my Navigator 6 connects in a few seconds with the phone and the communicator on the helmet, and the connection never breaks while driving!
I gave up with Garmin navs. I like to plan a specific route and cannot tolerate a device that decides it knows best and keeps changing the damned route! Have settled on My Route App, utilising an old smart phone just for use as a nav device. Still not absolutely perfect but mostly glitch-free and oodles better (and far cheaper) than a Garmin. It does of course mean that I cant use the whizz wheel to control functions but thats no biggy for me.
It doesn't appear that the AIO-5 Play for BMW would be compatible with the R1250RT though? Because keeping the AIO-5 Lite always on the motorcycle is a huge red flag for me.
Only the wonder wheel integration is at issue w the RT bikes. Your inputs at the wonder wheel would be received & responded to by *both* the TFT & Chigee simultaneously, which would be fubar. Chigee sells a separate control panel to get around this.
thats the only issue I have with my 2021 RT, comms/nav solution is not upto BMW standard and I wont be getting another RT until they fix it...... Someone at BMW needs a kick up the arse for this
BMW needs to make the RT Navigation built into the TFT (separate from the Cell phone) so you do not need your phone to connect" I have an 2024 RT - too much connecting in my opinion"
I don’t understand why the Motorrad don’t give us the option of Apple Car play or Android Auto play when their cars have this option. You only need to pay a one time cost of about USD250-300 and they can hook it up for you for their cars; well at least where I’m from 😅
Thanks for your videos very interesting! I’ve just bought a 2024 blue sport 2 R1250 RT. It was a dream motorbike for me. This is my first BMW after years of Honda various models. Just Subscibed your channel, also. My name is Pierluigi (“Pigi”) and I’m a 66 rider from Milan, Italy. See you! 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
I bought a new 2024 RT, my dream bike, knowing full well BMW's solution was an awful one. I pressed my old Pixel 5 into service to test the app, since I wasn't willing to allow that app to cripple my main phone just to run the app in the foreground. I'm at the point where I am going to wipe my old Pixel 5 and put it back into storage because the app constantly disconnects for no logical reason. I've had to factory reset the phone for it to work, and it's only a matter of time before I get a 'WiFi' error because map mode stops working and I rinse and repeat. I work in IT, this type of shit is my bread and butter and I hate it. Now I'm back to utilizing my actual phone on my quadlock wireless charging system just as I've done for years. All of this because BMW thinks they can do it better, but they just cannot compete with the existing solutions that are tried and true. This connected ride ecosystem is arguably the worst thing about their new bikes. Had they just retained the dedicated GPS mounting setup they've had for years, we could at least choose for ourselves whether we want the OEM Garmin or something like you're showing us. Either way, it would be a clean looking install. BMW needs to swallow their pride and admit they aren't up to the task of modern infotainment solutions. They need to pay the licensing fees for Apple and Android so people can have a good infotainment experience. Let me use my phone NATIVELY. It just works. It's the standard that people want and expect. For better or worse, our phones are the hub in our daily lives.
@@SoDakTwisties I totally agree 👍 how this got past R&D is beyond me , it’s a total nightmare being in a group ride and everyone having to wait for you and you phone to connect 🤨
Ensure your bike's firmware is up to date. I also use Pixels, currently a 7. I commute on my R1250RS and notice as I stop and start my bike through a day, that it takes a little bit longer each time to connect. Then I reboot my phone and this resets that timer. So if I'm going to be riding that day, I make sure I reboot my phone in the morning and then I usually don't have issues. If I do this for more than few days then I have issues until I reboot the phone again. Shouldn't have to do this at all. BMW's Bluetooth software is clearly still faulty.
@@Pyrrho_ The dealer has kept my bike overnight a few times for service, and I'd like to think they'd make sure I'm on the latest firmware. At the end of the day, I don't really care for BMW's infotainment/nav solution and I'm just over it. My phone being mounted and wirelessly charged on my QuadLock is what I've done for years and it just works. I love the bike, and it's just this one thing I hate. I love tech, but not this tech. BMW are on some serious drugs.
@@SoDakTwisties Firmware isn't updated unless it's either needed as part of the service (eg, adding OEM alarm, in response to a service bulletin) or specifically requested by the customer. It updates over a slow OBD2 connector and some updates require many modules be updated and it can take an hour or more. Dealerships don't have extra equipment lying around to do these updates, they cost lots of money, and this the reason for only doing updates when asked or needed.
Bought one for my "19 1250RT.(Analog Dash). FYI It Doesn't work with the BMW multimedia control wheel. Excellent screen and touchscreen sensitivity but the Android icons too small to touch with gloves on.
Why on earth would you buy a chigee rather than use you phone as a satnav? Chigee copies your phone, you still need it with you, the phone battery drains...
Put the phone in the phone compartment where it is safe from the elements and is also charging, USB or inductive, so no draining the battery. And Chigee has its own GPS receiver that is separate from the device and is mounted where you choose on the bike, so you have the same satellite reception as a Garmin/TomTom, if not better imho. And the front and rear cameras in a looped recording for CYA and blind spot detection and since it's android auto, it's the same as if your phone was right there but it's not, it's safe and secure in the phone compartment.

Put that AIO on my '23 Tiger 900 as well - pure gold. Navigation and warning. Good set of other functions like mirroring and recording the ride...
The Aoocii has the GPS built right into the unit. This doesn’t require you to find a place on your bike to place the GPS as you do with the Chigee.

@@NothingToProve thanks heaps mate much appreciate all your help
Promising product but with that small screen size I'm waiting for a v2.
I like in the video this sequence on 19:07 😊.
What about the innovv n1 pro
How would you use a self made route in gpx format on this device. Is it possible?
Have the dealer check for available firmware updates. Many of them are specifically to deal with our ever-changing and ever-updating phones.
Same problem until I realised it was still connected to my home WiFi. I turned off auto connect to my home wifi, flicked wifi off and on when I go to my garage and the problem disappeared. Not ideal in that now I have to manually reconnect to home, but, there we are.
@@Imaginary_Life_UK maybe you should’ve taken a left a Albuquerque. 😜😂
PLEASE bmw, move to actual onboard navigation (like you do on cars!)
you could try pressing the SOS button when it doesn't connect 😆
BMW Motorad have not yet realised that they are not a software company, although mine has been fairly reliable, there is a whole routine I have to go through to make sure it works each time you start and stop the bike. There is a high degree of f**kwittery with it!
My bike is a 22 year old K1600GT LCD model. If I pair Senak1600gtmobile phoneaio in that order... will the aio sound be output well through the Sena bike speakers? Also, I'm curious about whether the Wonder Wheel can be used to adjust the volume when skipping songs.
Do you know if BMW has fixed the connectivity issue on the newer RT's (2022/2023/2024) or is this still an issue?
same
I had a similar problem on my Goldwing for all the years I had it. Late last year I used another device, CarlinkIT, with some custom settings from a RUclipsr that made it work more consistently, but still not perfect. These things should just work, or don’t put them on the bike!
Does BMW Navi and Chigee Aio 5 Lite work with one smartfon connected by Bluetooth and additional BMW by WiFi?
Well, you saw me do there in the video, just one phone, with both connecting to it, so yes.
Too bad RTs with TFT do not have the BMW navi connector, so wonder wheel do not work anyway.
Typo on your title page (0:21) with the subtitle: Ride Like There's “Nothong” To Prove
Maybe he's branching out into bikini reviews? Seems a natural fit 😂
@@rhenriksen That is very useful, thank you!
thats the only issue I have with my 2021 RT, comms/nav solution is not upto BMW standard and I wont be getting another RT until they fix it...... Someone at BMW needs a kick up the arse for this
BMW needs to make the RT Navigation built into the TFT (separate from the Cell phone) so you do not need your phone to connect" I have an 2024 RT - too much connecting in my opinion"
Yea, they do it in their cars, so why can't they do it on their bikes...at least make it an option, even if it's expensive, give us the option!
I don't get it... spending half an hour playing with 9$ screen 's from China instead of riding... I will go back to old school and kick start.
Hey there are kids on your lawn and the paperboy is late again....hurry and go yell at them.
I sold my 1250 rt …. And i bought a 1300 gs so my zumo xt works perfectly
I ride my bike to get away from screens…
Only travelling to Starbucks, huh?
@@NothingToProve thx for clarification ;-)
Buy a new honda NT 😅
Yea, android auto 👍👍
buy 50€ china android car display for motorcycle. startup and full connection in 15-20 seconds. lol 😂
