    From owning 2 of k1600, I moved to back in 2020, new Goldwing DCT Tour, I will never look at a K again. Honda really nailed it good with the Wing. Superb bike on 2 wheels, DCT is magical with the paddle shifter, easy to work on, cheaper parts which always around to buy, dealers are all over the USA, I have extended coverage for total of 8 years which cost me $750.00. You can't go wrong !!!!! Simple as that. The most comfortable bike ever for me in 35 years of riding.

    I went through a similar process last year. I’m lucky enough to have another bike but wanted to do more touring and thought I’d test both of these wonderful bikes but the fully dressed versions. Once you get used to the scale and weight, which doesn’t take long, they are both very impressive. I found the Goldwing more comfortable immediately, the leg position on the K1600 is more like a sports bike. The luggage and the tank capacity of the K1600 is slightly better, but in the end I went for the Goldwing Tour DCT. Having a bike like this is a privilege and was to suit a specific need. The DCT was the key differentiator and suited the big, touring package perfectly and along with the Apple/Android made the decision easier.

    The Wing is coming up on its 50th anniversary and its been the benchmark in the category forever. Honda engineers have been perfecting it over all those years and it shows. My bucket list has a GW on it to tour Canada and the US from coast to coast when I stop working and when sportbike time is over and touring time arrives it will be a GW. Watch Fagan and Mossy for additional fun on this topic! 😄

    My Dad has had a Harley Heritage Classic for the last 4 years. I took my wife out on it last summer and we had one of our best riding days ever. Truly amazing day at steady speed, chatting, stopping to look around etc. It's truly made me want a tourer, however not a Harley...

    I ordered a 2022 Goldwing bagger, but the importer didn't have a quota for me (which I found out 3 months after ordering). So I went to a BMW dealer and he had the first two bikes of the new K1600 series. I could choose a crate with the K 1600 GT in white-blue-red or a crate with the K 1600 B in this manhattan matte. I didn't hesitate a moment and picked the pre-configured bagger in almost full kit. Later I added a center stand, Option 719 quilted saddle and chrome mirror covers. And replaced the dark low wind shield with a less dark taller one from Wunderlich. I don't regret the lack of a DCT in the end, although I had a nice ride on the Rebel 1100 DCT last year because the Quickshifter works perfectly.

    Really enjoyed this video, and especially the concept of two riders and doing a direct comparison.
    As for the bikes....I have owned 2 Wings (most recently a GL1800) and as much as I truly love them, for me they are not a bike to own if it's the only one you have. Not a 'one trick pony' but just too heavy when you are only popping out for a Sunday blast, of just want to nip out for ten minutes to clear the cobwebs.
    As such I reach the conclusion I need 3 bikes:
    Gold Wing

    Hayabusa

    I tested both bikes, took each for a whole day. And between this two I certainly would go for the GW, the DCT is fantastic, the comfort is superb. But if I were to choose , I would go for the BMW K1600 GT. For me, that’s a game changer and a completely different riding experience. The GT version is the one! I came from a BMW 1250 RT, and the difference is massive. The GW is generally flawless but I’m not prepared yet for that level of comfort on a bike that I would keep to have . One day, it might come the moment to accept that those days of rush are gone, but for now I immediately felt the absence of adrenaline, the absence of defying, feelings that I must be enabled to sense when I ride a bike, big, light, whatever. Even on a touring bike like this, that sensation has to be there, potentially. I love the DCT gearbox but I still enjoy to use my left foot to quick shift up, and blip down the gears . Doing that work is part of the pleasure of riding a bike. I like a smooth and fast ride, but it has to be a bit challenging at the same time, so that’s why my choice would be none of these two bikes.
    Thank you once more for the excellent video. Loved the Overcraft boat, that was awesome to watch, it’s a beautiful piece of machinery, no doubts about that! 👌🏻

    Can't beat a review wherein both guys actually rode both ultimate bikes and talk about it in real time. The words coming out are spontaneous and true directly from the heart (and mind). Can't be more accurate. I wonder how the opinions will change after 1k miles on each bike ... with the same persons.

  • @RE650NZGraeme
    @RE650NZGraeme Год назад +2

    Twoing and frowing between the bikes, you're like two guys trying to please two audiences! Very cleverly done. Thanks John and Greg! One thing not mentioned - what is the difference in the night time driving - what difference is there in the headlights between the Honda Gold Wing and the BMW K1600 on Full Beam and on Dip? Touring often requires nighttime riding....
    Another thing, I think the next series of Goldwing models is only DCT, no more gear shifts on a cheaper model. Also, go back to a previous video which concentrated on the Pillion riding - the Honda won out there, and when touring, the other half often rides with you!
    Another comparison I think I missed was the panniers... which one can hold two helmets side by side - in the side panniers? How much space/volume numbers in comparison?
    Fuel economy comparisons? BMW screen raises and lowers doesn't it? No testing there...
    Honda for gentleman touring, BMW for sports Touring, that's my understanding. Pricing comparo? G, NZ

    I have loved your latest vids, i am a massive touring bike fan, 50 now but have always been into my sports bikes, the only thing i would say is that the K1600 GT SE would have made the better bike to compare as the Goldwing is not a Bagger but the Beema has been built to take on the US market.
    The GT is more similar in ride position, big screen but does go round corners well 😂😂😂

    Love the format, beautifully done gents!!! I’ve avoided the GW bagger for years due to the matt paint, can’t for the life of me understand what Honda’s thinking. What marking research indicates that GW buyer wants matt finishes? It’s beyond me but I’ve never been accused of being brilliant. I actually called Honda customer service and asked WTF they were thinking, the POC agreed and said he’d push my request up the chain. He too found it odd it was only offered in one color. I just got off the phone with my detail friend asking if he’d film (PPF) the GW if I purchase it, he said he would. Added cost of course but it would eliminate the un-repairable scratch issue. Rant over, thank you both for sharing as it was perfectly timed as the bike I’m looking at in place of the GW is the K1600GT. Well done!! Cheers.

    The DCT gearbox is design perfection. When I test rode one, the Honda chap who’d been around the country demonstrating it said just leave it alone and I couldn’t believe how good it was. Over 45mins on a variety of roads it was always in the right gear at the right time. Whoever programmed it knew exactly what a rider wants and as you say it matches a bike like the Goldwing perfectly 👍

    If you want that kind of bike, get the Goldwing. When you’re in the market for a big continent crusher so you can ride up and down motorways and autobahns all day, you don’t want to be messing about with clutches and gears all day. You want to waft along effortlessly, and the Goldwing’s transmission is the one for the job.
    Top speed on that kind of bike is irrelevant. I’d rather sacrifice the BMW’s top end for a more relaxing ride.

    I’ve owned two matt paint bikes now, as long as you remember not to wash them with any wax products they are a lot easier to look after, I use glass cleaner as a quick wipe down, and you don’t have to worry about small swirl marks showing up

    I had a test ride of the GoldWing with DCT and it is actually very comfortable in the city. The suspension is great. Unfortunately, I missed the excitement of this bike. Then I got on my VFR1200F and felt what I lacked on the GW. I decided not to buy it. Now I'm waiting for the test. BMW K1600B

    Had the K1600 bagger and swapped it out for a TMAX when the back told me to stop putting the K1600 on its centre stand or manhandling it into the garage. I still have most of the same luxuries and don’t feel intimidated by it at all. It’s probably the most baggery scooter available. Glad spell checker left that last sentence alone 🙈😅

    I‘m English but live in Germany. I bought the R18 Bagger in November 2021. Took it in for its second service this month and got a K1600 Bagger as a loaner for two days. Took some kilometers to get used to it, but before I knew what was going on, was doing 190 kph on the autobahn. My R18 vibrates, even at speed. The K1600 is smooth a silk. I’ve got the Transcontinental screen fitted to my R18, as well as some other mods. I still get beaten up by the wind coming up through the forks, over the tank. The K1600 with the elevated screen and the fairing just deflects 90% of the wind. Would I swap? No, definitely not. My R18 has loads more torque, accelerates faster, and although it vibrates, it’s still the better bike to ride. I still like the K1600, but as you said, it doesn’t have the automatic cruise control with distance keeping, a shame for such a big bike. My R18 has that and it’s a blessing when cruising on the the autobahn or on long trips. If I had a K1600, I’d have the seat narrowed and lowered. I’m 6 foot but only just get my feet on the ground. Agree with the comment on matt paint. A real bugger if it gets scratched.

    Great review... which i waited for eagerly. I have ridden both and agree with your views. The BMW is phenomenal on acceleration, but at just over 6'3' the legs are cramped, wanted to try one with a tall seat but can't find a dealer that has one to either put on. They all want your money and expect a large deposit to secure before the price rise in January of 1.5% but non refundable. I think it will be the Honda for me with the tour screen on. Thanks for assisting in making my mind up... Safe riding gents.

      I have a GTL with a tall seat, there are cam rubber fitments under the seat that allow you to increase/ decrease the height slightly. Check online regulars for tall seats. The engine and handling on the K is fantastic. If buying second hand from a dealer insist on the tall seat, that's what I did they can swap seats out at factory cost.

    You know LC, you truly need to ride the new GT if you like the sporty aspect of a big bagger: not the GTL, but the GT! Additionally, I wonder what your collective impressions would have been in hot weather as the 1600 B has the wings that open for increased wind flow as well as the retractable windshield which goes quite low indeed. Finally, if you had dry weather, I would have loved to see you utilize these beasts as genuine performance tourers until they begged for mercy...

    • @cyclotronbxl
      @cyclotronbxl Год назад

      There's only very little details differences between the GTL and the GT. Like only your position. The performances are completely similar. You really need to be a very accurate pilot to exploit the difference.

    Goldwing for me if my pockets was deep enough, seen a lot of footage from TMF channel and love the way it takes on the twistys and that flat 6 sounds is just musical to the ears. As for BMW I fell out with the brand since owning a GS1200 and a K1200R both bikes had things go wrong that simply you do not get with Honda, so just the reliability is a great pull me me personally, which is a shame because when a BMW is working they are great machines, just expensive to service or put right, and the biggest kicker is when you have to put it right and its a design fault on BMW part. As for the main sponsor of the video Bemoto I found them to be 2/3rd more expensive with like for like cover from other insurance groups( I am 48 clean licence and no claims, been riding since I was 17). As for the video great review and agree with all you had to say about the two bikes.

    either one has its own merits but both have now been overshadowed by the Great Wall Motor Company's Souo S2000 bagger or the S2000GL or the S2000ST or the S2000 cruiser (depending on your riding preference. A boxer 8 wins over an in-line six or a boxer six. I have the K1600GT and the second I can get my hands on a Souo - I'm trading.

    Man, Goldwings. Normally Id pick BMW in a heartbeat when talking bikes but when its these cathedral cruisers, Goldwing is king. They made these machines for 40 years, noone can compeat with them at this point. Its so much more focused than the BMW. Also Honda engines are sooo underrated.
