    Scott you seem like a good honest hard working guy who loves to research the product. I'm subscribing to your channel right now. The unfortunate thing is we'll never get away from the Snake Oils and the Smoke and Mirrors because it still seems to work for the companies. As you know it's been part of the marketing since the beginning of time and it works because the average consumer doesn't want to or make the time to dive deeper into learning. Thanks.

    I have been using Klasse AIO and Klasse Sealant for 17 years. A bottle will last at least 10 years, and I have enough to last longer than I probably will live. I have been very happy with the protection and shine, but I never used a polisher or buffer, so I am an amateur I guess. I used to apply it twice a year, but at 67, I usually just apply once per year, and it still looks good a year later. I do apply 2-3 layers of sealant on consecutive days.

  • @anthony.catalano
    @anthony.catalano 7 лет назад +33

    Many waxes or sealants are solvent based, so as your applying that second coat you're removing the first with a "solvent". Therefore rendering multiple coats a waste of time.

    • @1974gladiateur
      @1974gladiateur 5 лет назад +3

      Exactly. The need for more layers doesn't do any benefit to the paint. Only Ceramic Coating should be layered.

      One can layer many of these, but each layer must cure. Modern house paint uses water as a solvent, but when it "cures" water will not remove it.

      I use Turtle Wax and Purple Power car soap mixed and turtle wax spray wax. Does good. I have a video of a car I polished in December and didn't wash again for 4 or 5 months and it was still mostly flawless. It is driven during good weather all the time and garaged. Only drive through car washes it uses it touchless as only I really touch it. I mad sure to inform the client how to remove bird poop and bugs in a safe manner too.

    Pure Carbauba wax has a melting point of over 81 to 86 °C, (178-188 °F ). Carbauba wax further impresses with a very high hardness, the hardest natural wax ever, and it is considered harmless to health, so also for allergy sufferers without any problems. Regarding your point about the temperature resistance of carnauba wax: 100% pure carnauba wax has a flash point of 282 °C (540 °F), and that is pure carnauba wax not stabilized by additives. So I think your worries with hot summer weather shouldn't be a problem there, unless you're driving a black car into Death Valley at noon for a 3-hour picnic.
    High quality car wax on carnauba basis
    for example from Swisswax the Concorso (> 50% vol.), or the CRYSTAL ROCK (> 76% vol.) state-of-the art carnauba wax, are expensive, but they are outstanding products, no harmful chemicals in them, produce extremely deep glossy and mirror-like surfaces. Pure perfection, for perfectionists.
    But these two expensive waxes above from Swisswax I use them only on my very expensive cars, not on an average daily driving car.
    Anyway, funny video. Thanks.

    After all my digging I finally found your thoughts on why water beading can be a negative on the paint (You mentioned it in a recent video talking about why neutral ph soaps don't really clean road grime)...
    So my question is this: wouldn't the water evaporate before doing any actual damage to the wax/sealant/clear coat ???
    My 2nd question is this: what if I'd rather have a really really cool-looking car after a shower with lots of beading in the sun, than have a proper even layer of paint protection?? ;D
    Love your videos, Scott. You keep things real and keep weekend-warriors and "pro detailers" questioning why they do what they do. Keep it up.

    General Motors says in the owners manual under the “exterior maintenance”.... Application of aftermarket clear coat sealants/waxes is not recommended. If painted surfaces are damaged, see your dealer to have the damage assessed and required........machine compounding or aggressive polishing on a base coat/clear coat paint finishes may damage it. Use only non abrasive waxes and polishes made for base coat/clear coat finish on the vehicle.

    I think most companies that encourage two layers simply encourage a full coat. People miss spots and I think that is the goal behind the message instead of "make sure not to miss a spot!" some could also promote it maybe for profits sake as they will burn thru the product quicker.
    I very rarely put down more than a single coat and if I do it's a sealant followed by a plain wax for added color/depth I feel it gives.

      because you don't typically layer paint coatings but people do paint coatings and then place two or three layers of wax over the coating thinking it will help..im also mobile meaning i work in direct sunlight so coatings is not a option for me, not that i don't do coatings its just not a huge seller in my world...in the real world its a small percentage of people demanding paint coatings,just look at the cars your passing on the highway...how many of those have coatings?...thanks for your comment and I'm grateful your on the channel:)

    • @hsun4352
      @hsun4352 7 лет назад

      Scott, that is a great answer, I thought you would bring a point like with coatings, if you get a scratch later and you want to polish it out it would take a lot of work removing the coating and reapplying the coating. Or something like the protection you obtain from coatings how to measure how much life is left you can't just reapply, maybe even to remove a coating you would have to polish it out whereas wax or sealant you can use some of that paint prep to strip away the waxes and sealant you use. BTW Ive always liked super clean but only use meguiars however I'm beginning to use super clean and also paint prep from your channel, others costs twice as much such as eraser....

When ever I use chemicals in my work, I always think SHOULD HAVE PAID MORE ATTENTION IN CHEMISTRY. It is truly a professional field and you should charge accordingly. Anyone can wash a car, but not everyone knows how to detail a car.

    So everyone is taking the previous product off with alchohol. I only wash or remove my compounding step. When I polish and seal. I want these 2 steps to work together the create a "tripolymer" bond. That how I have had the most successful shine and finish. You want your wax and sealant to work together. Depending on its content it may or may not work correctly. That's where experience and product usage reigns supreme. Lol

  • @MrElguapoGaming
    @MrElguapoGaming 5 лет назад

    If I have to remove a product with alcohol to see the "true finish" that wasting time to completion. Which is detrimental in the polish and seal stage. Why? Well Scott knows! 80% of cars just need to be 2 stepped polished and sealed. Time is money in our world. You will have some that are stubborn and you have to break out the higher cut stuff. Love you Scott your videos are awesome. Keep up your shine!

    Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detailing Scott you have a fun, comedic style of delivery - I"m not being facetious ! In any case, I practice auto detailing as a professional too and I have to agree with you on your stand about polymers and the waste of time second coating them. If I understand you correctly, you mentioned that it doesn't matter if you put any "protection" on a well maintained and polished surface and that the water will bead off of it just like a wax or sealant or whatever. Yes, maybe for an hour or two : ) BUT as you know the clear coat (under a powerful microscope) has "pores" - which is why we can lift dirt that we can't even see off its surface with a clay bar because dirt, dust and road film "settle" into the pores. SO if you FILL in all those pores with a "sealant" or whatever, you do actually help fend off crap getting into to the pores and therefore extending the water beading qualities of your cleaned and detailed paint. AND perhaps even extend - rather miraculously - the actual life of the . . . are you sitting down? . . . CLEAR COAT : ) So maybe Dr.Optimum is not SO crazy after all? Just a theory. Happy detailing and keep on with the cool vids!

  • @AaronWilkerson

    Another good, honest video. Technically speaking...
    A polymer is a large molecule composed of repeating subunits (i.e. a chain of smaller molecules). They can be synthetic (e.g. plastics) or "natural" (e.g. DNA, proteins, cellulose, shellac, wool).
    A wax is an organic compound that is lipophilic (i.e. not water soluble) and malleable. They can be synthetic or "natural". They are also, technically, polymers.
    A sealant is a substance that blocks fluids (liquids, gases, plasma, and plastic solids) from getting through the surface or openings of some material.
    Natural means existing in reality and subject to the laws of physics (aka everything). The alternative would be something like "supernatural", but I doubt there are paranormal ectoplasmic car products. Likewise, everything is a chemical.
    Marketing does not care for scientific accuracy and, unfortunately, people "learn" more from marketing than science.

Because though i have washed and clayed the car one after applying the sealent the sand will accumulate on the sealent and after 30min if i go to buff it wont i be scratching my car with those sand particals?

    Scott, I take it Meguiars Synthetic X-press, lasts longer than Carnuba since its synthetic? I Imagine it doest have that low melt temperatures.

    Scott, I see where Iron X is recommended for most cars. However, what is your take on
    using Liquid Spray Iron Out Product that is relatively inexpensive compared to Iron X.

    AWESOME Scott! Everytime I watch one of your videos it's like reading "The Emperors New Clothes" for the first time as a kid.
    Countless times I've gone back to my ShoppingCart on the web after watching one and dumped all the crap that was touted as the best answer to my situation... works better, safer, faster, more protection, better for the envoronment (I love when they start tugging on that heartstring!) as well as easier, less espensive in the long run, smells better, and not to forget - NEW & IMPROVED! Most is Hokum anyway since we're leemings for the most part.
    Seriously I learned something today about elusive little thing called Carnuba thanks to you.
    One hundred forty degrees on my paint and it's history. That's friggin wonderful news. That tidbit just eliminated all the due diligence I was planning about which miracle Carnuba wax would be the optimum choice.
    Kind of a moot point since I live in Las Vegas and it's going to be about 100 degrees for the next 90 days.
    YA THINK???
    Keep 'em coming Big Guy!

    I agree with you, anything liquid or as a paste has a solvent in it, once applied, got to wait for it to evaporate so the product is hard or adheres on the surface.. great video, thanks!!!
