I've been taking a photo of myself since the 11th of June 2011. This is a three years time lapse (11/6/11 - 11/6/14) showing my face getting hairier and hairier.

Even though I love replying to your comments, I see a lot of questions that are being repeated, so I decided to use this space here to answer a few of them.
Q: How long did it take until you were able to tie your hair up?
A: It took me about 1 year until I was able to do a little "hair bun" and another 6-8 months for a proper ponytail.
Q: Did you ever trim your hair?
A: While I was making this video I trimmed my hair just once (about a year and a half after I started growing it). I've trimmed it again in November 2014 (but that's not in the video -it will be in the next one!)
I usually trim my beard every 3-4 months.
Q: How do you wash/take care of your hair?
A: For the first two years, I used to use regular shampoo and comb it as often as possible. Later, I found out that using shampoo every day can actually damage your hair and scalp.
After trying out a lot of things, I came up with a routine of shampooing my hair twice every week with shampoos that contain as little chemicals as possible. I also condition my hair right after I shampoo it. I'm also taking multivitamins and I try to eat enough protein every day. I've also started using beard oils for my beard and mustache.
Q: What did you do/What should I do during the "awkward" stage?
A: Hats! ..and patience.
Q: Are you still growing your hair?
A: Yes! And I'm not planning on stopping any time soon.
Q: Why does the background keep changing?
A: I'm from Cyprus, but I study in the UK. The room with the Evanescence door is my bedroom in Cyprus and the one with the Fight Club poster is my room in England.
Q: What software did you use to make the video?
A: I used Adobe Premiere Pro, but I think that you would be able to have the same results with a more basic and easy-to-use software.
Q: Are you Jesus?
A: Yes.
GENERAL NOTE: I am not a hair expert (or whatever they are called). I'm simply telling you what I did to grow my hair! These tips are based on my personal experience and might not work for you.

It has become a part of my routine.. It's actually difficult to NOT take a picture now... There were night where I was so drunk I don't remember what happened, but when I checked the next morning, I hadn't forgotten to take a picture (granted not a good one, but still..)

I don't know why, but I get a very nostalgic feeling when I watch your video, and the music helps a lot. I guess seeing your time-lapse makes me project on you the first time I let my hair grow long, at the star of high school, it was quite a journey. In a way, your short video actually made me realize how long it's been since then.

People do not understand the dedication it takes to do something like this. I myself have been doing project 365 for almost 5 years now, taking a photo (though not necessarily of myself) 365 days a year, and its work but so worth it when you get to see an end result like this. I think towards the end you look like the typical picture of Jesus, with long hair down. It was fun watching your hair sort of "move" in the time lapse like it was some type of animal on your head trying to consume your face, LOL. The ending photos were amazing as well. Hair up, beard down, awesome. I guess, one assumes, to be continued...

It's sad thing that hair takes such a long time to grow, it's way too much time waiting. Specially to go through the ''weird'' stage. When you have hair that long, if you have to cut it to get a job for example, it's really disappointing. Great video btw man!

I was going to grow my hair as long as I could. It was down to my shoulder and then I thought I should get it a little trimmed to make it look neat. Stupid bitch cut it weirdly and it looked genuinly terrible to the point I had to cut it short and restart. So here goes run 2. :(

I remember watching this in June 2016 just days after my last haircut and since then my hair went from short cesar to about 11 inches more or less. At the time I thought growing my hair would take forever but now it’s like it grew out of nowhere funny how time flies.

Can you tell me what kind of products did you used, man? I've been wanting to grow a beard, but it seems I can grow the opposite of what you grew in your first video, haha! I grow everything but a 'stache and a goatee, and that has stopped me from growing one! I'll thank you a lot!
By now, I've found a routine that works for me.. I use beard oil in the morning (just buy one that works for you), take multi-vitamins in the evening, then shampoo it at night (not every night!! 1-2 times a week) and then I use some special oil that I've made myself! ;)

I use the " Beardsley Ultra Shampoo for Beards"
No, it's not a secret..it's just something that I "customised" to my needs, so I don't know if it's going to work for you. You just have to experiment and see for yourself.
I put Coconut oil, Olive oil and Caster oil in mine (I don't put Jojoba oil -which is the most important one when it comes to beards- because it's contained in the oil I use in the morning.. that's why I'm saying it's customised according to my needs). Coconut oil and Olive oil help with growth and keeping the hairs healthy and shiny.. the caster oil helps with the hairs' thickness..it's also a rather thick oil, so I found that it makes it easier to style and control the hairs and it can be used as a substitute to beard wax.
In my opinion, there is no one way to do this... you have to experiment! :)

I never said anything about it being matted, it's obviously not dirty or unhygienic. I was commenting on how unkempt and disheveled it looked. As in making a joke, as in ha-ha? Sheesh....
Bob Lawblaw Unfortunately I didn't use to comb my hair very often, which led to some really bad results... you can actually still see one of the natural dreads that showed up, moving around near the end of the video. After that, I bought a professional hair dressing comb and I comb my hair at least 2 times a week.

I was born with naturally curly hair myself so I am very aware of what combing dry curly hair does. Beginning of January 2015, I decided to grow the sides and the back as well as the top. Thanks to you, I've been inspired to make a time lapse video. Starting today, doing it for two-years.

Dude! Your hair is fucking awesome! I'm usually all into straight hair, but your hair is definitely amazing. My hair is wavy and I've been growing it out for a little over two years now. I started growing my hair long back in 2010, but have gotten it all cut off twice since then (which I regret), but now it's at the longest it's ever been and I just want to keep growing it out. Although, it's all uneven and has a bunch of different layers in it and it annoys me and I want to get it trimmed so bad, but then I'd lose so much length and it would take so long to grow back. I don't know why I am saying all of this, but anyway, your hair and your beard are fucking awesome! xD You look metal as fuck! xD
Justin Mackay haha thanks man! That's why I let it grow freely, without trimming it. Besides loosing length, your hair can also get uneven if it's not trimmed properly. However, I do think it's worth cutting it a little bit, just to make it even..

If you are growing your hair to it's terminal length it will offset it if your hair is a different length on one half (I am assuming it is this way due to a haircut you had before growing it longer?)
Well, my hair was long (not anymore), but the most recent time I grew it out was from August 2012, which I had it completely shaved off, and I let it grow in all the way until the beginning of October this year, and during all of that time, I got it trimmed once, and I only got an inch cut off of the perimeter of my hair. It's short now though, because I let my friend cut it last month and she messed it up, so I had to go to a barber and get it cut short. At least the layers in my hair are all pretty much gone now, and I plan to hopefully grow it back out again.
