Love the video! Seems like some of us know the secret of these little gems. Love how they take on the flavor of whatever you add but just bring that here I am flavor.
I actually like these completely toasted as well as the way you make them toasted outside kind of softer on the inside. I love the fully toasted style on top of salads.
@@cyrusatkinson3307 I like that idea. I'll have to give it a try next time i make a small batch. most times i am doing at least 2 cans to make it worth my while and my air fryer can't handle that much. at least not in a single layer. I might end up with a chickpea brick if i added 2-3 cans in it haha.
I love chick peas right out of the can, so delicious. After seeing this, I will definitely be trying this with a little garlic salt. Ooh, I can’t wait! Thank you 😊

I bet an air fryer would work well. I’m glad he made the point of crispy on outside and soft in the middle. I would have thought the whole thing is supposed to be crispy. I imagine it would be too hard to bite if the whole bean is crunchy.
In India it’s a street snack.. Called Chana Jor garam.. they are served by street hawkers in newspaper cones. You get spiced roasted peanuts the same way too.
I just made roasted chick peas the other night.. olive oil, garlic powder, salt, pepper and some steak seasoning. After baking until crisp, I drain them on paper towels SO GOOD!!
@@phaedrussocrates7636 They're the canned ones, just drain them. The dried "raw" ones that you'd find in bags are hard as rocks and would need to be cooked in water first. Canned are much easier.
Love it. Super simple. I like that you don't overcomplicate things. I'm going to make these and use my Trader Joe's Ranch seasoning on them. I use it on popcorn already.
I have been doing something very similar but I first microwave the chickpeas for 8min while the oven is preheating, then oil/seasoning, then bake at 400F for 30min.
My feet on the ground review... These bonzos are a healthy delicious high protein snack, healthier than popcorn. Love the seasoning. The second day they get a little soft. I would make only the amount you intend to consume or a little retoasty in the oven at 350 degrees makes them awesome again. Kind of a life saver if you are a chip cracker lover. A much better alternative and not a compromise at all. Obviously, they're not going to work for dipping and putting stuff on like crackers and chips, but excellent for munching on.
I would recommend having the oven up to temp before you start mixing the oil and seasoning. I did it with Tajin and ate way too many before they even made it to the oven. LOL
Bummer. I've developed a couple of allergies as time went on. I know what it's like to not be able to eat what everyone else is having...& how nice it is to be able to say, "Nope! These are Mine!...Ok, you can have some
Love crunchy chickpeas but it's been years since I last made them. I used to pop them in the Traeger on smoke setting for like 10-15 minutes and then into the oven. Gave a nice subtle smoke flavor.
Thanks for the recipe! I don't really care for popcorn so this would make for a great alternative. Also, you should try baby chickpeas(chickpeas that are still inside the pod). Really simple recipe, you just toast them and season with only salt(or tajin), adding a little bit of water at the beginning to get the inside chickpea nice and soft. Once the pod is slightly toasted on the outside, you take them out, wait a few minutes to cool and enjoy.
Sounds awesome .. will try. Also, another video showed you could very easily de-shell these by soaking in water for a minute and gently squeezing them. The shells float to the surface and you just skim. Might be a good step.
Love them! I use the convection setting on my oven because I likethem crunchy! Also use a trick from Cook's country where you place them on a paper towel lined plate(spread out), cover with another paper towel and nuke on high for 5-7mins. Helps to start the drying method and cuts down on oven time. Getting the skins off is the worst part of the process but worth it.

I've been frying mine in a wok, transfer to a METAL colander inside of a mixing bowl, then sprinkle with onion powder and Parmesan cheese. You're welcome! Usually dry on a plate in the fridge before frying so the oil doesn't go over. A spider ladle works better than the huge slotted spoon. Does it have a different name?
What we found in a nut mix are (i guess) freeze dried corn pieces and they‘ve become by far our favourite now. Sadly we haven‘t found them being sold seperately, they only come in these Nut mixed. ☹️
For me those are not a substitution for poporn but for nuts instead. They are both legumes so it makes sense at least for me. But I will definitly try them since I expect some more exotic flavours will go way better with this.

i wonder, could a person coat them with butter instead of of olive oil and them sprinkle them with cinnamon and sugar? get kind of a carmalized effect? or would it just burn the butter?
@@briannotseth21 WRONG ANSWER!! Once the milk fats it will make it like most oils and it will make it withstand much higher temperatures unlike regular butter. But it will in fact still burn.
@@marytramp5678 Yes, that is true, but Ghee has a smoke point of 465 degrees F, meaning it should be fine to use for this recipe. It shouldn't burn at all for the time that the chickpeas bake.
